2) Take your time walking, no extra points given for arriving 5-10 minutes earlier. Most are here on vacation, so what's the rush? Find a pace that works for you. Thais will always find the shadiest route to their destination and there is actual science behind that strategy.
3) Stay well hydrated (sorry, beer doesn't count).
4) Light-colored and light-weight clothing can help.
Anyone else with suggestions?

It's not so bad. You just don't want to walk around too much in middle of the day when sunny. In that situation get there quick on motorcycle or use aircon taxi or BTS. Yet I still see plenty of guys sitting in open air bars in the daytime. I don't see that many guys are allergic to warm weather. I actually hate freezing cold weather much worse than Bangkok heat.
It's not really the hottest time of year. Bangkok is never the hottest part of Thailand. The smog filters the sunlight so it is not so bad when it hits you directly.

The Nana BTS is a short walk. Nice pool area and decent buffet breakfast. The hotel gets mixed reviews here, but has had some recent room renovations and IMO is good VFM. The superior room booking should get you a Sukhumvit view room on a high floor. If you don't fancy the place just move on to another.

Fourteen years since my first trip to Bangkok and I have just booked the Nana Hotel for a couple of nights at the end of the month. .
It is an itch that has to be scratched, although in the past I have had breakfast there, been to the nightclub, Angels? And had a massage and ball shaving with a lovely called Pimm.
I have read various forums and booked with the hotel direct a Superior room which at 1690 inc tax and brekkie is a good deal for the location.
I just don't fancy walking too far in the Bangkok heat and I certainly will not have to walk too far from The Nana. .

Your question suggests you only spoke with that one girl and did not try another. Otherwise, you would have had more info on whether that first discussion/refusal mattered or not, right? Based on the description of yourself, I think you would have been successful in getting a taker within the next 2-3 girls you chatted up. The FL you took outside and had a great time with might very well have been standing in Thermae 30 minutes earlier or was planning to go in there later.
I am also an older Farang guy (64), in pretty good shape although I have never used the word "great" (LOL) as you did and when I walk the horseshoe I get dozens of inviting smiles and unblinking looks from lovely young girls on both sides and ends of that room, all the way around. That was true as recently as a week ago. Any night I have been intent on taking a girl from Thermae I have been able to do so and can't remember the last time it required chatting up more than two of them to make that happen over the past few years. And I am not talking about the older, less attractive ladies there. However, there might be things that set us apart that you mentioned and one that you did not mention. Maybe they matter a little, but no way to know for sure. Some things that set us apart (but still might not matter one whit really) is my hair is not grey because I chemically darken out the grey, I don't have a mustache, I don't think it has ever occurred to me to approach a Thermae girl by asking her the question you asked, I usually approach by at least trying to say Hello in Thai (Sawatdee khrup).
Further, I am smiling when I walk into the place and look confidently yet non aggressively around the room, continue smiling at least a little bit while I walk the horseshoe and definitely smile even more when I approach a girl and say Hello to her. That is the one thing you didn't mention that I believe really does make a big difference when it comes to Farangs. It might not matter when the most grim-faced, serious looking old Japanese dudes slouch over to the hottest girl in the room. But we Farangs need to assure these girls we are light-hearted, not too critical and ready to have a pleasant if not a genuinely fun time, imo. Smile. A lot.
Guess this should have been in the General or Bangkok Reports thread. But the question was asked here.

Posts: 348S Sukhumvit is a good choice. Safe in room as well. Very girl friendly, never had even a peep from anyone when bringing girls back.

I will say it is the best looking group of ladies I have seen in Bkk. Please advise. BTW, I walked outside an took an FL, that was a great ride 2 hrs, 1500 baht.
