The main thing is that I have a bad back. The cheap hard beds in most of the budget hotels kill me. A relatively inexpensive place with a good bed is what I'm looking for. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
You can try Ruamchitt Plaza which is on top of Thermae. They have the older rooms at 1200 B, the newer ones at 1500. The beds are quite good.

Nana Hotel across the street from NEP has been reported to have softer beds.

1490 baht per night for a standard room as listed on their website.

You may be able to do better with another site like Trip Advisor as far as the cost goes, or by contacting the hotel directly, since the protests may have left it half empty. Also if you stay long enough they have offered a 10 percent discount. 20 percent for over 30 nights.

Dynasty Inn on soi 4 is my favorite, but I always stay in the standard new rooms, which is above your budget range. The beds there are fine for me. However, they have cheaper rooms, but I never stayed in one of them.

Maxim Inn is at the end of soi 7/1 off of Sukhumvit and has rooms to fit your budget. I stayed there a few nights before and the bed was fine. I think the room was a deluxe without a window, but don't remember for sure. I also have had back issues and no problems there. You could book one or two nights to try it. Depending on how long you stay, you may get a better rate than the one listed. They told me they don't discount some rooms during high season.

Also I believe there is a hotel called Star Inn or something like that about half way down soi 7/1 on the right. I never stayed there, so I don't know about the beds, but seems like I read something about it and may be in your budget range. Hopefully someone else will have more suggestions for you.

    Good luck.

Can't help; as of last week the rooms facing the road looked as they always did with no indication that they were bars. I did not go upstairs on my visit earlier this week If I have time I will have another look next week if the prospect of a trip to one of the Soi 33 MPs stirs my loins

Re front side rooms. Not so. Don't know when you were last there but as far as I know there were never any street bars accessible from the street to the right of the entrance.

Any news about the sports bar?

Street side rooms? These were long gone and turned into bars accessible from the street.

Did they get them back as part of the new place. I refer to the rooms accessible separately from reception.

It's as sterile as an operating theatre until the white paint inevitably succumbs to the mildew, I think it is a non-starter in which has become the most fast declining Soi off / of Skvt. I remember when theArtists' Bars were full of elegant ladies (same as any bar in Nana and Soi Cowboy but dressed elegantly, did not 'demand' lady drinks and generally knew more English than 'where you cum from? '

Maybe next week I will check out "The Office."

Was it cash or credit card? It is customary that at check in credit card is registered and the amount of the whole stay is authorised and blocked but not withdrawn. Only the check out bill will result in your statement of account.

If the advance payment was in cash then you should have asked for a receipt. Nevertheless they need a guarantee for any extra and incidentals such as minibar etc.

    Amora Hotel Sukhumvit Soi 31.

Amora NeoLuxe is a good value new small Hotel. 100 metres into the Soi 31 only. Room is smallish but bathroom large with separate shower and bath. THB 2K approx. Have cheaper rooms for 1800 (with shower over bath). Compares very favourable with more expensive Admiral Premier except for having no kitchenette, no microwave and no freezer. Has big flatscreen TV an DVD player. Bathroom better than AP.

    Weak points (not many) :

Internet is slowish (3G on my smartphone has very good AIS signal and faster so use personal hotspot).

Breakfast (included) pretty good except too many cooked dishes with significant sugar (e. G. Sweet and sour). No pastries. Could order your eggs how you want.

Slightly overly fancy central lighting control. Turned out desk light was good but labelled Minibar on the master control.

Expect to pay 1K more to get a Hotel any better than this, so perhaps better to keep the 1K to spend on the girls.

For this price, have to rate this Hotel as very good. I don't know about the staff service. I don't need any special service.

Ate in Hotel restaurant yesterday. Chef was very heavy handed with black pepper in the soup. Fortunately I like black pepper. I would suggest eat here only for breakfast though. Plenty of places to eat not far away. Eating at Hotels is normally over priced.

I assume Girl Friendly but did not bring back WGs.

Its simple. You pay, you must get a receipt. If you have no receipt and paid cash, then you did not pay. Someone could easily just pocket the money. Mostly its normal to pay on check out. Nana Hotel is not a great place to stay anyway. I would not trust anyone there.

The Column has 2-bedroom suites with 2 king beds.

It's on Soi 16 not far from the intersection of Sukhumvit and Asoke.

No only 1 bedroom. You could get 2 rooms close though.

This apartment has only one weakness. The wifi is not very reliable. I found the 3G on phone with personal hotspot worked better.
