Good choice, most of the country heads here for Songkran.

Although there is a mass-exodus of the non-Thai residents. I used to enjoy it but now I fucking hate it. When it used to last a couple of days it was fun, but now it seems to last more than a week.

I'm fleeing to Hanoi and The Kok for a week. While CM is wet with water, I'll be wet with Vietnamese Nam Hoi.

CEC is about a three minute walk from Starbucks.

Very close to the Night Market, just off Loi Kroh Road, directly in front of The Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, and just down the road from Suriwongse and Duang Tawan hotels.

Will post a map when forum/computer stops being stupid and lets me do so.

    Cec

Where is the CEC in relation to the night market? I'm travelling to CM during Songkran, and would like to see it, along with any other night spots that are recommended...

    Yes, feeling reflective today.

Although not as pensively reflective as P-L and not as aggressively reflective as Ph.

I think it is because I have bought a motorbike and fear I may perish soon, or perhaps it is because I have a wireless web-connection in my apartment now, and so many of my recent posts are typed while in bed, resting my laptop on a girl's ass, and gazing, half-asleep at Doi Suthep.

Chiang Mai certainly isn't very Thai these days either, but certainly a lot more than Pattaya. Plus, the Thai people here are certainly more Thai than those in Pattaya, if that makes sense.

Also, I doubt if "Chiang Mai" is as commonly an uttered word in British jails as "Pattaya". A buddy of mine served some time recently in a London jail (for drugs I might add, nothing violent or nasty) and he said Pattaya (pronunced Pa'aya by the illiterrati) was all his scumbag neighbours would ever talk about.

    C-B.

    Jeez, Coma Boy...??

    Member #2967,

    You're in a reflective mood, aren't you?
For a brief moment I thought that both Poster and Philo had ripped your id from you...

I met a typical British ex-con in a town in central Thailand and he was of the opinion that Pattaya = Thailand. I let him talk (ex-con, British, drunk. Better let them talk).
The funny thing in what you're kind of saying is that CM, like Pattaya, isn't 'Thai' either...
    Very, very confusing!

CM is a nice place. Not too busy but plenty of girls (although a lot, lot, lot less than BKK or Pattaya). Good prices, great weather, excellent food.

Best of all you don't need to be surrounded by Eurotrash who have just been released from prison as you do in Pattaya.

CM is very nice, has a huge expat population, which I hate, but says a lot for the town. Also CM is often referred to as "Thailand's most liveable city". Most people I meet here tell me they are in town for five days, and then I bump into them six months later to discover they've moved here.

Basically Pattaya is like a German city filled with a British prison population, with a million sexy but not particularly hot girls. There is nothing Thai about Pattaya.

Bangkok is very fucking cool, and I intend to move there from CM, but it is crowded, stinky, smelly and expensive.

And yes, CM is a perfect place to drive a motorbike, although one annoying, yet presumably practical, thing is the one-way system. This can take you a long way to travel a short way.

I've just bought my first bike and I assume it will mean an early grave. Funny, I'd always assumed my sexual antics would bring my demise.

"Live by the pussy, die by the pussy".

    Living in Chiang Mai

I'm free to spend as much time in Thailand as I want for the next six months. I've only been to Bangkok and Pattaya Beach. I would like to check out Chiang Mai since the heat in Thailand is hard for me to handle.

Could some one give me a brief comparison between the three cities. I'm hoping its not so crowded and stinky like Bangkok. Can I drive a motor cycle or is the traffic to ruff to handle? Both Pattaya and Bankok were very noisy.

    Thanks

Yeah, you definitely need a pool, it is starting to get fucking hot now that hot-season is upon us.

2041, thank you for using my real username. Are you another victim of an unwanted name change?

I know a lot of these girls very well, actually most are Doi-girls or Burmese, but there are a couple of Lao chicks also.

There is a good reason that they work the streets and it isn't because they don't have Thai identity cards.

I even drove one to hospital last week to pick up her HIV medication.

Wrap up well with these chicks, very very well.

Raming- good location for girls, in between the Loi Kroh bars and the CEC. Otherwise not a great location. No pool. Cheap, but clean, basic, nice rooms. Very new. Guest friendly.

Duang Tawan- good location for girls, very close to CEC and only a five minute walk to Loi Kroh bars. Very close to the Night Market and also useful for Star Six or Foxy Lady. Nice swimming pool, small but okay-ish gym, good jacuzzi. Reasonably priced, clean, nice largish rooms. Big new hotel. Guest friendly.

Tamarind- very cool boutique hotel, not a great location for girls but only a couple of minutes in a tuk-tuk from the action. No pool. Slightly expensive but not too expensive. Definitely the nicest rooms of these three hotels. Guest friendly.

If I went with a GF I'd stay at Tamarind (you should also consider Ratchamanka).

If I was there for pussy I'd stay at Duang Tawan.

If I was on a budget I'd stay at Raming.

    Hotel opinions

    Hello,

For those who have stayed at either the Raming Lodge, the Duangtawan Hotel, or Tamarind Village, could you please give your feedback on the quality of these places? Likes or dislikes?

    Thanks!

The owner of Marin Bar is still the same girl, and she seems happy enough these days- still drinking and dancing and commanding her troop of girls.

I'll get you her new phone number if you want to contact her.

    Marin Bar, Chiangmai

Has anybody been in the Marin Bar on Loi Khro Road recently?

I have a reason for asking: I have lost touch with the Thai woman who owned the bar along with her sister in 2003, and I would just like to know how she's getting along. Call me foolish or call me sentimental if you like, but she was very good company for me on and off for a few trips from about 2000 until 2003.

She's called Nongnuch or Nuch (prononounced Noot) and she's a bit older than the average BG. I used to have her mobile number and called her maybe twice a year, but I haven't been able to get a connection for about a year. I occasionally sent her a card at the bar, again without a response recently.

So, if anybody out there has met her recently, or indeed knows if the Marin Bar has changed hands, I'd appreciate some news. It's no big deal, and I won't be able to get back to Thailand in the foreseeable future (I got a bit bored with it and have found Buenos Aires to be more exciting at present) but I'm still wondering how Nuch is.

I'm not putting any photos on the board, because she would certainly not appreciate it, and she does not know me by the name of Wally Foot, so I would sincerely hope that guys reading this don't start quizzing her if she is still at the Bar. At the same time if anybody has any news, I'd like to hear it.

    So, does anybody know anything?

    Wally Foot
