I tried again: if there is a cute girl sitting in front of a massage shop on Loi Kroh Road. At least Happy end is offered. There may be exceptions, but I have not found any yet. Standard price is 500THB for HJ + about 200 to 350/hour for massage. It is a shame, that many pretty Thai girls are getting almost as chubby as the farang. Is it the fast food? Relax Express have a branch in Kotchsarn Soi 1 now, but in both shops there is a queue and therefore no photo album to choose from. You cannot even have a look at the girls. This is a confusing thing. Its usually more likely that the girl is insulted by the amount being offered is too low. But if a guy and a girl have a very close rapport, its just possible the girl will not charge for the night, based on viewing him as a new boyfriend. This is more likely with a newer bar-girl who is not yet fully accustomed to always receiving money for fucking.

Another possibility. Some bar-girls (not many) don't normally go with customers for paid sex, and may not even consider themselves to actually be "hookers". i.e. I have met girls in the bar that say its O.K. to bar-fine them but they will not boom-boom, especially serving staff. Some bar-girls do special dance shows for a living and may refuse to go for sex. These girls may make exceptions for a guy that really excites them.

That sounds interesting, i.e. something I haven't heard about before .. The only fishbowls I know about in CM are the few "massage" places. Then there's Loi Kroh, and expensive KTVs. And a bit further into the dark there are less expensive KTV lounge places. At one I had a girl who drove me to a ST motel nearby on her motorbike. That was up around Taewarit Rd, to the west of Santitham Rd, to the northwest of the old town. Another area was along Chiangmailand Rd, to the southeast. No big scene, just a few joints to pick through carefully ..

Went on a date with a sweet shy office girl. She's sober and we're eating dinner at a restaurant. The conversation has been quite polite so far. Suddenly she just asks 'Do you want to sleep with me?'. I almost spat out my green curry. That was the "welcome to thailand" moment for me.

Went to Foxy Lady one night. My friend barfines a girl, we go to Hotshot club. The girl tries to make him buy drinks for all her friends. She's a real piece of work and even my drunk friend realises this. So he tells her 'Just go with your friends, I dont want to be with you' . The girl just loses her rag completely. She looks furious, is spitting thai at him, and starts slapping him. After each slap, she only seems to get angrier, consecutive slaps becoming harder and harder. He just starts to walk away, she chases him down, before he gets to the door, she grabs a bottle and smashes it over his head... He doesn't even flinch, just looks genuinely puzzled as to why this girl is so f***ing crazy. The girl honestly wants to kill him, I'm sure if she'd had a gun she wouldn't have hesitated to blow him away. By this point I'm worried that a thai guy is going to do that for her, because while my friend honestly acted like a saint (well, a saint who just barfined a girl and took her to hotshot), I realise that a hooker screaming in thai could pretty easily turn the crowd against us. So I get him out of the club as fast as I can. Another bottle smashes behind us as we leave, thrown by the same psycho. Eventually the security come ... thankfully we had barfined a sane girl, who had seen everything and was able to explain to the guards in thai.

We split up into two smaller groups. Friend goes to hospital and gets stitches in head.. the rest go to Foxy Lady and tell mamasan she has employed a psychopath. She refunded our barfine (a refund in thailand! I was amazed) and promised that the girl will never work there again - hopefully true because I can't imagine that bottling customers is good for business. Observations about CM:
there seem to be tons of 'hidden' places, like the fishbowl shops (girls behind glass with numbers), had a friend take us on a tour and got the sense we were only scratching the surface there. However these shops are not my cup of tea, it feels too clinical.

The gogo bars are far behind those of BKK, all disappointing after having visited nana plaza. Perhaps it's necessary to go early to get the prettier girls before they are snapped up.

It is VERY hard to meet girls here via the internet. In bangkok it was possible to have a new internet freebie each day, here in chiang mai it's seriously hard to get even one, the difference astonishes me. I'm average looking 22yr old guy and have never had an issue in any other asian city. Here in CM, the non-working girls run circles around me and it feels like being back in Europe !

There is a severe shortage of hot working girls here. I think all the best ones move to BKK where they can make more money / be more anonymous.

Conclusion: There is an extensive fishbowl / ST scene here, which I'm not expert on. Otherwise, CM is very disappointing in the sex department.

Wish I was 20 again, but I am more than 3 times as old as you are. So there is more than enough pussy for my needs in Chiang Mai. Not free anymore, but at a reasonable price! 10.000 expats are in town and many thousands of tourists. Chiang Mai is not a big city, so the local girls shy away. There are several big Universities. Most of the hot girls you see on the street will be students. Normally they are "good girls", who do not go with farang. Yesterday I revisited Sayuri at about 7pm. The fishbowl was full, not even enough sitting space for everybody, because the Papasan was giving instructions to all. I agree that the talent available in Chiang Mai bars is not great. I find the gogo bars surprisingly disappointing for example, both in term of line-up and entertainment.

I don't know if I was doing something wrong, but I couldn't get the girls to warm up to me. They were all friendly to get you into the bar, but then they'd go cold and lose interest once I had sat down and ordered a drink. A lot of them just didn't seem too friendly.

Well I know what you mean and I believe the trick is that most girls just don't go too often with customers and earn their money with ladydrinks. It's not really that they don't want to go but more that they are not really used to it because many chiang mai customers are young Farangs who travel with friends and do not indulge or only occasionally. So basically they're happy to pay a few drinks and have fun hanging out with their pals in the bars before going to Spicy but they're not really punters.

Is the trick to proposition the girls standing outside instead of sitting down and ordering a drink? Are a lot of the girls just not barfineable?

I believe all are barfineable but some might just want to earn a bit of cash with drinks and then head for Spicy and try to get a young drunk Farang who's going to pay 1K for LT and might pass out quickly.

On my last night I was sitting with a girl at a beerbar around closing time and then she said she doesn't go home with any guys and will only sleep with a guy who's her boyfriend. So that about summed it up for me. I walked home alone.

Chiang Mai was almost like being back in the US.

Dude go to Pattaya, it's a completely different story, the girls know why they're there/what they're supposed to do and they're all after ST or LT. Mostly LT by the way. And there are many more to choose from too.
