As to Phuket, I'm biased, but I will suggest that you have another more serious look at it for digital nomads, as they are all over the place here.

I will also suggest you take a look at Phuket more broadly, excluding Patong as that is the nightlife area and is only a small part of the island.

Yet that is what you have found and read about it seems from your research to date.

Phuket away from the tourist traps, which is 90% plus of the island is very very very different.

Look at Phuket areas of NaiHarn, Rawai, Chalong, Phuket Town, Bang Tao, Thalang, etc.

Chiang Mai IMHO is by far & away the best place to live in Thailand. It's busy enough to be entertaining and small enough to not have the same hassles and pollution as Bangkok!

As far as mongering goes, it, like all places is down to luck / hit & miss. It's true there are definitely sideline girls especially from the University, & I would imagine but don't know, that this scene is.

So for my last report re Chiang Mai, I thought it best to mention a totally unknown place albeit it was at the end of Thapae Road Soi3 (easy to find on Google Maps).

I am Not certain the private cabin 1st class in an available option anymore to CM from Bangkok. The one time I took the night train, only the bunk beds as described in your post were available. There is not much to see until early morning, perhaps 5 am, when the train is in the mountains descending to CM where you see some pretty villages and train stations.
