I recently stayed at Dusit D2 and found it very good and reasonably priced.

It's in the Night Bazar area, in the very heart of tourist Chiang Mai. Loi Kroh, with its bars and massage places, is just a short walk from it.

Can't vouch for its girl friendliness as I didn't try to bring anyone in, but considering that the lobby is big and the reception staff always busy, I doubt anyone would stop you if you walked in with your girl and headed straight to your room.

Dusit D2 is a really good property. Haven't stayed there, but stayed in Dusit Princess a few years ago. Excellent rooms and staff. And yes they did allow a guest but asked for a small fee. I think Dusit D2 would also ask for a fee to bring in a guest.

I know 'reasonably' priced is relative to the person, so just a few I can look at that are girl friendly. Also, if you can just name an area, then I can just look at the hotels there. Wanting a place that's not too far from the action, within walking distance if possible. Thanks!

I was there last night (my first visit to Chiang Mai) between 10 and 10:30 pm and the scene reminded me of Spring Breakers in the US. All the clubs in that strip had DJ's (including Zoe), except a couple with live cover bands. Crowd was entirely Euro / US backpackers in big groups.

I also went by Icha Icha to give it a try earlier in the evening, about 7 pm. Dark and locked and no answer. Seemed odd since their website says they're open until 10:30 I think. Maybe I didn't find the right doorbell, but was all dark inside. So, walked Loi Kroh which was pretty dead, at least at that time. Saw a couple of cuties at a small bar called Alice's, but after getting them lady drinks they said they're not available, Alice's ain't that kind of place. Oh well. I settled for a foot massage after all that walking and called it a dull night.

I too try to find live local music in my travels, have read about North Gate Jazz Co-Op which has music every night. I'll report back after I check it out.

It's been some years since I was in Chiang Mai, but try The Riverside Bar & Restaurant, and the one or two next to it. Decent food, live music, sometimes quite good (was owned by a somewhat famous Thai guitarist a long time ago), and mostly Thai people.
Not a bargirl place, but a place to meet regular girls.

I was at Nature Massage getting foot massage from 7:50 to 8:50 PM Tuesday. Will be back there tonight (Friday) a little earlier, about 7:30 PM. There are two places with many foot massage chairs out front across from Rock Me Burger, one is green, the other pink. The one with the pink motif is named Nature Masssage where Kim massages my feet occasionally. After that, I may walk to Nong's crepe cart. There are two crepe carts on Loi Kroh, Nong is a little further from the moat than the first. She knows everyone, including all the massage ladies. Her husband is a tuk-tuk driver and is often there, as well. Both are really nice.

I tend to be friendly and often chat with the ladies out front of the places on Loi Kroh (knowing that they are likely non-erotic or minimally so). Last night, a lady in front of Mang Mee Massage, seeing the bandage on my forehead, stopped me to ask what happened. Told her an abbreviated version, and she suggested that I need a "full body massage. " I thought "what the heck. " and went inside with her. Up to the fouth level, and a decent massage. After flipping over it became more erotic than I expected. Full service, typically called "boom-boom here, offered, but I opted not, though. A reminder that life is full of surprises, often fun surprises, even in the non or less erotic places on Loi Kroh Road.

Maybe the most Massage Parlors on Loy Kroh offers more than a Massage and its funny to get around with girls. One Massage shop will be offer only Massage, but in an excellent way. That is the Home Massage on Loy Kroh, you will get a Thai Massage by elder women. Sometimes you can see the girls from the other shops to get there a massage too.

If you like the bar scene, Chiang Mai is pretty dead except for the bars on Loi Kroh, none of which are even close in quality and selection to the bars in Bangkok (Nana, Soi Cowboy, etc.). Occasionally there are a few hotties at the entertainment complex at the Thai Boxing place, but if I were into the bar scene, I'd be disappointed in Chiang Mai. Fortunately for me, I like the massage parlors with the teasing and the uncertainty of what is available. Sometimes unexpected, fun things happen.
