Most of the Whorist websites, including the classifieds like Craigslist and similar are hardly giving the North of Thailand a mention these days, as most of the decent stuff is now confined to Bangkok and Pattaya. Only need to go online and see for yourselves.

Sadly I cannot see the Chiang Mai situation improving in the foreseeable future, the parties over as far as Chiang Mai`s concerned, which is a shame.

If Thai girls are you're scene, than give Chiang Mai a miss as many mongerers are doing these days.

Because of the lack of customers in the Loi Kroh road bars, a lot of these skanky old bar women are now going independant or have taken to the streets to do business after dark. you have no idea what you are talking about.

prostitution is not illegal in thailand. some forms of behaviour related to prostitution are illegal, such as public sollicitation and generally being a public nuisance. pimping is illegal and so is exploiting a brothel. this is the same as in many of the western european countries (with the exception of some scandinavian countries).

i am a lawyer and i have never ever heard of a man procuring services of a sw being accused on basis of this type of prostitution laws.

did you read the bangkok post lawyer articles?

i have never heard of a case where a man was charged or fined for soliciting a street walking sex worker in thailand. that doesn't prove it has never happened or couldn't. the prostitutes themselves in bangkok near nep are often raided by le who wish to pocket 1000 baht bribes the hookers offer to let them go. otherwise they'd end up going to the police station & being processed. apparently this is justified under both sections 5 and 6 of the law that i posted earlier, each of which speak of a maximum fine of 1000 baht. i see no reason these could not be applied to a foreign sex tourist, including the reference to one month in jail. would you like to bet your life on it, as in for example being ass raped to death or fed a steady diet of contaminated maggots? even the bangkok private eye may not be able to save you then!

as to the subject of the legality of simple prostitution in thailand, formerely the wikipedia article i referred you to said it was illegal but at the same time said what you said. however recently they have revised the page such that it now states it is illegal. the wiki discussion or "talk" page previously posted states:

perhaps being thailand lawyers and more familiar with thai law they would know better than a solitary lawyer from europe, that is, you? they state prostitution in thailand may be illegal & that customers are potentially subject to the penalties spoken of in sections 5 and 6, including 30 days in the bangkok hilton:

Every website I have been pointed to by others that has young girls looking for cash or casual sex requires the ability to read / write Thai (I've had numerous guys tell me that most sites with Thai women who speak good English are filled with pros and scammers) so they are out for myself and most of the posters on this board. In places like Chiang Mai there seem to be enough wealthy-ish Thais who can afford giving a girl an extra 6000 a month that the girls there may not be interested in foreign men.

I still have to say that I was able to find enough wam bam thank you mam places in Chiang Mai to keep me happy for the short time I was there. However, if I was a resident and wanted a different girl each day or week the lack of variety would eventually frustrate me as it probably has you.

I was haggling with a songtao (red truck) driver over the price to Central Plaza. I finally said, I'll just walk. On the way back a kid on a motorbike pulls over and asks,"where you go?" I said,"for a walk"."Please mister, please. I no have money. You give me 100 baht I no buy deisel" I told him in Thai: "Do you see me walking? If you can't afford deisel, maybe you should do the same". He just rode off.

I'm starting to get a bad attitude. Definitely time for a quick trip to Bangkok.
