Contrary to report above and other previous reports, I had a satisfying experience at Sayuri. Took a tuktuk costing 40 bahts to Sayuri at 4 pm last Wednesday. Entered the main door and to my surprise found 20+ ladies of all shapes and sizes in the fish bowl. Selected one with shapely body for 2500 bahts. The rest were routine: body slide, BBBJ, full service and a bit of massage afterwards. Overall, a good experience.

It is on the opposite side of the room from the door you are entering from. I think that also is a 'regular' massage to the very left. Since it was still early they only had 2 girls. A was quoted the standard price of 1400 Baht (the cheapest girls). I left and walked up a 100 meters and came to the Phucome Hotel. Here the selection was better. I picked one of the cheap girls (1000 baht) from the fishbowl. She only spook a few words in English and I only speak a few word in Thai, but this wasn't a problem. I actually visited her again 2 days later. You usually get a bit more girlfriend experience the second time. She also looked very happy the second time I came around. Both times I gave a 200 baht tip.

The mamasan and papasan (often there are 2) are very friendly and likes to recommend some of the girls, saying that they give a particularly good service. They seem a little surprised, when you do not follow their advice. At Phucome the standard girls sit in the fishbowl and the more expensive girls are called out to an 'open fishbowl' (if there not already are costumers.) These girls can also see you, so you can see if they if they discretely turn their head away if they are not thrilled about servicing a farang.

Out of curiosity I visited the the Nimmanhaemin houses (last evening).

Nimmanhaemin road is on your left going up Huay Kaew Road, at the city center. It's the same way to Chiang Mai Hill massage. Turn left at 'Nimmanhaemin Soi 13'. Walk down one block to the next small intersection. You will find a pink house that looks like a small eating place with tables outside. A sign in Thai says karaoke. There was no music when I passed by.

I passed the place at 6 o'clock. Not sure what to expect I walked casually by the front door looking in. A girl saw me and shouted loudly: 'You want sex with girl 650 baht'. So the place is definitely not trying to hide their business for foreigners. I think the karaoke place is the only left at this place.

This girl spook English fairly well. She also pointed out that is was for only 30 min. And that she expected a 200 baht tip for a BBBJ. There is only cold water in the shower but if you want a seedy experience go for it. The girl told me that the place is open from 8 am to 12 pm. She started herself at 5 pm. I guess the best chance of getting an English speaking lady is in the evening. The girl was around 25 yo. No stunner but ok looking.

Back in the old days when that complex was known as housewives, one could get a choice on average of about 10 girls at a time and there were always a few lookers amongst them.

Although the place was rather basic and dirty, it was user friendly, we always had a good laugh; everyone was cheerful, the mamasan was never in your face pushing drinks or the girls and the girls never expected customers to pay them drinks or give tips and if we did that was left entirely up to our discretion.

It cost from 200 baht to 400 baht for the girl for a period of however long it took, never felt under any pressure there.

650 baht plus 200 baht tip for 30 minutes sounds extortionate and from experience I've no doubts that once in there with the girl she is going to try and put the pressure on for more money. These days it`s about extracting the most amount of money, for doing as little as possible in the shortest possible time. I describe the experience as being in a taxicab with the meter running.

I wonder what happens after 30 minutes; does someone on a loud speaker shout number 2 your time is up?

For me, this is not what I describe as fun, pleasure or enjoyment but more of doing something out of desperation when there are no other better options left.

These can be hard to find with only verbal directions, hopefully the map will help some.

The northernmost of the three places that were off Nimmanheamin is now closed, the other two are still there.

The karaoke-style one is actually a pretty good value imo, at least if you're in the area. The ladies are friendlier than at the MP's and it's kind of down to earth. On the other hand, there is no hot water in the rooms, and BJ is usually extra baht and also covered. 650 baht fan room 700 baht A / C. I've had some good times there, the beer is cheap, and it's rather open and relaxing.

The place directly south of that on the same soi is a dump, but it's only 500 baht. The one time I was in there there were like 10 Thai guys and three women sitting around in a tiny hut watching a tiny tv and chatting. I have no idea what the deal is there I can't image they were all waiting their turn. Anyway the papasan speaks English and was quite friendly. The rooms however are depressing—words escape me. Try it if you want to. The girl I was with had a stellar rack.

Last one I know of I have never read about just wandered past it, might be a new find, on Morokat road.

The girls here were mostly unappetizing but there was one little cutie that seemed quite fresh. Mamasan speaks NO English. The deal is that you can only take ladies out—no rooms on premises, but there is a short-time hotel maybe 100 yards away that is included in the price. 600 short time. Girls are also avail overnight was told 2500 baht—fuck that. My complaint with this placw was that the hotel rental is for maybe 30 minutes, then a guy starts knocking on the door. I guess that is probably enough time for the average Thai customer to do it 2 or 3 times but alas I was just getting warmed up.

Do not expect excellent or GFE service at these places, they are there for low-income Thai customers and you might luck out and get a girl who is into it if they like you but more likely you will get a basic fuck from a shy girl with stretch marks, who won't kiss and will expect you to finish in five minutes, not to mention wanting extra for a (covered) BJ.

Some of these girls are really quite nice but they are all earning a living on their backs and you can't really expect them to be all excited when your fat white ass drags in. Still, beats the heck out of a handjob for 5-700 baht, imo.

It`s as I guessed, the good old days of the lady houses, where everyone knew what they were getting for their money, no rip offs, no strings attached and very convenient, have now long gone and I doubt will ever return.

Sometimes you could become good friends with the girls; these places were almost like social clubs that were affordable.

These days it`s all become big business and I suppose that the business owners have now brought these establishments under their controls, a sort of pay our prices, do things our way in the areas that we specify or leave it.

I do become irritated when I read these threads that always lead to the Loi Kroh road and the soapy massages. It is not because I am particularly fussy, only wanted to confirm that a mongers options in Chiang Mai have become very limited, which your post does.

Having lived in Chiang Mai for nearly 30 years, I have witnessed these gradual changes come into operation, so have seen better times.

Trains running northbound again BKK to CM, no southbound service atm.

Can't really speak to what will be happening next week.

Had originally planned to visit BKK (arriving next week) for few days then take overnight train to CM. Heard some parts of BKK underwater but most areas spared and also CM was not really affected by the current floods. But have trouble finding info if the train from BKK to CM was affected as alot of areas between these 2 cities were underwater.

Anyone have any info on the current train situation between BKK and CM?
