I don't drive (car or scooter) in Thailand so visiting Rawai would mean walking from bar to bar. I don't mind the long distance walks, but many of the bar areas recommended by TGT look dangerous for pedestrians (narrow streets and no sidewalks). Did you feel safe walking around? I'm worried about getting run over by a car at night.

I thought it would be too long of a walk to go from Nai Harn to Saiyuan. I'm in good shape so I just started walking and took my time. Earlier in the day I asked TGT what time the sun sets because I was thinking I could do some walking.

When I started at 5:30 ish the sun was out. I walked on the side of the street facing approaching traffic for safety. You're right, there's not much room for pedestrians. I just took my time.

When it got dark, its just as safe if not more in my opinion because you can see cars / scooters easier by their headlights. Of course its more difficult for them to see me. I own 8 motorcycles back home but felt safer walking at night than riding a scooter in Thailand.

Yes, Rawai is a spread out place, its basically a triangular circuit, some 10 or so kilometres in length.
