Like everywhere in Thailand you can also have on PhiPhi Island success to find a girl. There are several Massage places for example, even if most girls are a little bit more fat and older than the agogo bar girls, there might be a gem inbetween. First, a BIG THANKS to all the guys who took the time to help me out. I’m going to try to give back to help the next unlucky dude who has to stay in Laguna by writing up a Sheraton Laguna guide. Some of this applies to other Laguna hotels too. I’m not going to write about girls I did or Patong hotels here.

The Hotel:

I stayed here a few weeks back for a company meeting. It’s a very nice 4-star place. It’s not new but it’s well kept up. Rooms are very nice. It’s a great place to bring the wife and kids…and that’s the problem. In one week here I saw no old farang/young Thai girl couples. Pattaya it ain’t. Personally as an older guy myself I’d feel uncomfortable with a young 22 year old Thai girl hanging out with me here. I guarantee you’ll get “the look” so if that doesn’t bother you, go for it.

It’s an International mix of Americans, Euros and Japanese/Koreans but it’s couples and families with lots of kids. It’s expensive as hell to eat, drink, get massages, etc. in the hotel. Internet access is THB 650/day.

The hotel has one entrance as the whole hotel complex is on a series of islands. There’s no way to sneak a girl in, if you look at the picture on the web site the entrance is at the top. Someone posted you can drive around to a side parking lot but that’s impossible unless you drive a boat, it’s all water. If you’re in a situation like me where you have to be discrete, bringing a girl in unnoticed is way risky.

Girls:

There are no girls in the bars whatsoever that aren’t with someone. I was told there is no joiner fee but I didn’t try it. If someone can fill in that bit of info, maybe we’d have the definitive Sheraton Laguna guide.

Transportation:

There’s a few options for getting to/from Patong, 25 minutes away. The hotel has a private 5-series BMX for THB 1200 1-way, or THB 1400 for a passenger van that’ll hold a crew of 10 at least. The hotel shuttle runs 3-times a day to Patong, with 3 pickup times in Patong (latest at 23:00) for THB 350 1-way.

Taxis to Patong are THB 700 from the lobby, THB 500 from the entrance to the Laguna complex. You can take the free Laguna shuttle (runs every 5-10 minutes) from any hotel lobby to the main Laguna entrance.

Transportation from Patong back is a bit harder, especially late at night. The hotel told me that taxis should bring you from Patong to the hotel lobby for THB 500 at all hours. But the best I did was 600 THB when my Patong girl got one for me. It was easy to get one for THB 700 with minimal haggling. At that time of night I just wanted to get my ass back.

The last night there I took a car instead of a tuk-tuk. Same price but way more comfortable. Riding in the back of the tuk-tuk sucks with the curving and bumpy roads; falling off the bench when you fall asleep sucks. Get a car taxi instead and doze on the way.

Another option is to rent a motorbike, but I knew I’d be drinking (a lot) so that sounded like a bad idea for me.

The Plan:

I decided bringing girls to the Sheraton was too risky because I couldn’t afford to be seen by my colleagues, so I got a room in a guest house on Rat-U-Thit 200. Expensive add-on, but the rest of this trip is paid for by my company so I went for it. I figured I’d be dropping 600 for a short time room anyway in probably a dirty place where they may or may not change the sheets between customers. This opened up a whole set of advantages for me, like multiple girls in one night, safe location to lock up valuables, clean room, place to leave stuff like extra toothbrush and change of clothes, etc. But all it was really ended up being was short time room so I just did it the first two nights, then just used the places the girls brought me to.

Final Summary:

If you have to stay in Laguna, there’s ways to make it work. But if you have a choice and doing girls is a priority, don’t stay here. It sucks for having fun. If you have to and can afford it, getting your own place in Patong might be a good move. Happy travels.

Travelling to Koh Phi Phi is really worth the trip. It is a beautyful island with nice beaches.

As it is very small at all, you will be close to the beach wherever you stay. No Hotel or guesthouse will be more than 500 m away from the beach.

As for the transfer:

If your flight arrives early, you can book directly at the airport a combined ticket for minbus to the port and the ferry. Going on your own by taxi to the port will be much more expensive. And the ferry ticket itself will not be even one single baht cheaper than at the airport.

From the airport to the port will take around 1 hour.

If your shedule is too tight, you must stay one night in Phuket. In every beach town there are multiple travel agencies which sell the combined minibus- and ferry tickets, all for the same price.

Recently I visited Phuket for my 6th time in 3 years. This trip was a 4 day jaunt just to blow out the cob webs, so to speak.

This time however was the first time I have visited the many new bars under the boxing stadium at the back of the jungceylon shopping mall.

This area although brand new is pretty much deserted as far as punters go.

There are many girls available, some very beautiful and quite desperate for customers.

Barfine here is 300bt, cheaper than bangla's usual 500bt.

LT is between 1500 to 2000bt. ST is not something I usually go for but most girls told me that the price is 1000 to 1500 bt.

The only thing I did not like was the loud booming music pumped through the bars, it did make communication difficult at times.

Bangla itself did seem rather quiet this time, I did get the feeling that many of the girls are becoming choosy, pretty much just trying to scam a few lady drinks before heading up to the disco's or the streets to find younger men who they naturally prefer.

Another ploy I discovered this time is the amount of younger guys that wait till the bars close and then move in and negotiate with the girls as they walk home via many smaller streets. This negates the barfine and having to buy LD through the night. Basically this tactic erodes the "fun atmospere" at the bars and gives the girls a "who cares" attitude because they can find easy pickings after work.

As a regular visitor, this time I was aware of the lack of enthusiasm from many of the girls in Bangla compared to other times. As a solo traveller this time I could sit in many bars with 4 to 6 girls and be lucky to be spoken to by any of them.

I did ask some of my regulars why this is occuring, like am I to old (44) or become uglier in the last year or so. Their answer was that they think that because Phuket is now attracting a more younger crowd that it is easier to get the same money from younger guys who finish much more quickly.

Perhaps I am just tired of the scene here, more likely though is the scene here has changed with the stream of budget airlines now coming in, bringing with them a different type of traveller than has been here in the past.

The new bars under the boxing stadium are recommended at this stage and perhaps give me hope for the scene in Patong.

We are doing a lot of marketing for Sheraton....
I stayed there in several occasions and never had a problem entering with "Pizza", apart from the fact that at night the entrance control is quite nil as, in fact,it is very big.
I suggest you look around, by motorcycle, as suggested by fellow Monger, as close to the hotel there are some massage joints that are ,even, allowed to come to Sheraton.
Phuket is not my cup of tea, as I always did find it more expensive than BKK and the quality average.
Last time I even took a nice babe from BKK for the week-end.
