Those things get uncomfortable even on a short 2-3 h ride (Bangkok to Pattaya), let alone a 14 h one from Phuket. Personally, if a van was my only choice for getting out, I'd stay in Phuket.

Full-size Thai buses (rot tour) can be fine, especially the 3-abreast VIP variety.

Those things get uncomfortable even on a short 2-3 h ride (Bangkok to Pattaya), let alone a 14 h one from Phuket. Personally, if a van was my only choice for getting out, I'd stay in Phuket.

Ride should be OK: 40 seater for 20 pax so enough space. Once tehy tehy fly again should be gone.

I've never done that ride and not even sure it will be running when you want it.

One of my friends did that ride 5 times over the last 17 months and she says it is nice and comfortable, but she is only 152 cm and 44 kg. Masks worn the whole ride. What she rode was not a full size bus, it's what she called a mini bus, about 9 passengers if full. They do make stops along the way for additional riders and breaks. When she gave up her tiny apartment in Phuket, she shipped her few belongings separately. Luggage space on the mini bus is limited.

If you don’t trust your vaccine, you should reconsider taking that trip. It’s likely that there will be other passengers and the Thai COVID rate is high and unknown due to limited testing.

Just touched down in Phuket a couple days ago for what will hopefully be a several-month long trip. After suffering through the visa application, the COE application, emailing hotels to arrange testing and inquire about girl-friendliness, a terrible layover, and getting my brain inspected by a covid swab, I'm happy to have finally made it.
