So a little more reading and recent travel blogs seem to suggest that NaiHarn and Rawai are pretty much up and about as usual. Which is great, cause we have never explore Phuket that down south! And I'm reading that NaiHarn is a reall nice beach.

I'm still struggling to find an in budget SHA+ property which I'm liking. Its all a bit pricier it seem in the south. The NaiHarn is expensive, but maybe I can splurge if convinced its worth it. Even though I am looking at resorts (mostly for a decent pool), we're always wary of resorts / chains. Having stayed extensively for work, there is always that element of cheesy instead of classy that often creeps in. Like restaurant or pool entertainment in the evenings.

The NaiHarn beach resort (Not the Nai Harn) seems like the best bet around here. Unless there is something in Rawai.

I'm reading the picking are good in Rawai too? I'm hoping ill get a couple of afternoon or late night soujourns during my stay. Lets see how that goes.

I hope it is not rude to be a long time lurker, semi retired mongerer asking for some travel advise from boots on the ground.

Me and the Mrs. Travel to Phuket first week Nov. If I will be having some fun on the side it would not be with blessings! But that not my main concern of this post.

After getting my head round the upcoming 7+7 sandbox rules (still confused on some aspects), I can't figure where to stay. Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for a hotel / resort with a great pool and beach access to keep the wife happy, ideally modern design. We never stay in Patong, too loud and concrete for the both of us. But we do still want some life around, restaurants and stuff, and not be confined to the resort.

I can't speak to the hotel situation as I only know where I have stayed and don't know the smaller areas well. But I can say something about the covid tests. You are supposed to be tested on day 6 or 7 of the sandbox, so you would just need to set up your scheduled test for day 6. Where you might run into an issue is getting your certificate on day 7. I took my 2nd test on day 14 and I didn't get my certificate until day 16. Fortunately, I was staying a few extra days, so it wasn't an issue. That said, I don't think anyone is going to check and, if they do, I think you can explain. You could then maybe have your first hotel send the certificate to the 2nd hotel by email or whatever. I moved to another town and nobody checked to see if I had a sandbox certificate. I'm in a condo so maybe a hotel will check, but I think you can explain the situation if it doesn't arrive in time. I also had some trouble because my hotel booked my tests for me, so the slowness of my certificate may have been caused by me not being in the system. They had to make a phone call to find me each time I went for a test.

Check out Karon Sea Sands Resort at Karon beach. Was there in 2019 (BC) with my wife. Had a room with pool access, very nice and just a short walk to the beach. Plenty of resturants and massage places. Quieter than Patong but much more action than Kamala or Kata.

- The Novotel in Kamala falls right in budget and gets decent reviews. Anyone here with 1st hand experience? Last we were in phuket (Nov'19 enroute to Lanta) I noticed that the whole kamala area was one big construction site. Its probably still the same? Does it interfere?

- Kata vids on youtube are showing Kata as totally dead.

- Sandbox rules say I need to be in Phuket for 7 days before I can move, and hotel would need to issue release certificate? (wow) Stating guest have stayed for 7 nights / days.

Here is the problem. Out flights arrive at 7 am, so arrival day will be counted as day1 quarantine. However, our stay in Phuket I would like to ideally keep for exactly 7 days, which would mean 6 nights in a SHA+ hotel. Would these 6 nights /7 days be an issue? Does it need to be 7 nights before we can move hotels?

So I got to Chalong yesterday and was supposed to see a particular girl, but she cancelled at the last moment (see last post). So I went to dinner at the pier restaurant and then walked back to my condo. Along the way, I decided to stop at the one bar that seemed to have any girls in it. I agree with IHeartIpa, but there is more to Thai unreliability than that. In USA I have several Thai friends, while some are reliable, about half are totally unreliable. Part of their culture is to live for this moment and don't worry about the future. If you make plans with a Thai woman at 5:00 and she is having fun with an unrelated activity at 4:30, it's unlikely that she will stop her fun activity to be with you. If this happens multiple times, you might tell her about the problem, but she is likely to tell you that you need to be more flexible. Similarly, if she is bored at 3:00 she just might come to meet you right then.

These observations are made based on my non-P4P friends in USA. The reliable ones have done well in their work and family situations, but (surprise) the unreliable ones have histories of losing jobs and repeated failed relationships.

Its not surprising that these problems are amplified in the P4P world.

That does make some sense. I am fine with it happening once. If it happens twice, I won't deal with it unless I have a history with the person. One girl was at a friend's birthday, so she messaged to say she would be late. What I didn't like was me messaging two hours later and her saying she was waiting for a taxi and two hours later she never shows up. So she lied about waiting for a taxi.

I was supposed to meet a girl last night and she messaged 20 minutes before the date saying she had her period. OK, that happens, but just 20 minutes before the date? LOL, seems unlikely. They are totally pushing the relaxed rules allowing them to stay open, and the people attending were publishing how bad it was.

I figured it was something like that. To be honest, I always entered the bars with my mask on, but then felt stupid as the only person with it on. It's also hard to talk or drink with it on. So I would end up taking it off. I wonder how many other people there are like me.

But people take them off in restaurants everywhere and I don't see much difference. In restaurants, people put them on when they arrive or get up to leave, but the rest of the time they are off. It's just a matter if you are willing to accept that amount of risk. If you aren't, then restaurants should also be closed. I wore mine walking up and down bangla, but most people did not.

During the day one time some European lady yelled at me because my mask was off my nose. It was really hot that day and I was breathing in my nose and out my mouth so I felt like I wasn't suffocating. I looked around and literally 50% of people around us had no mask on. I have no idea why she singled me out but I had to stifle saying something pretty rude to her. I am very pro mask, but this is obviously a really tough situation.

And TIT, logical thinking isn't taught or encouraged for anyone. Most can't grasp that they should act different (as in be more customer friendly) to make more money because they are in tough times. 2+2 doesn't equal 4 in Thailand LOL.

So I almost forgot to post the most important thing. Bangla Rd was closed last night and apparently will be closed for 1-2 weeks, depending who you believe. I heard there were too many videos online of people without masks all smashed up against each other, but that was from some street girl, so take it for what it's worth.

This is quite disappointing because Tuesday night had the best collection of girls I've seen yet, both in terms of quality and quantity. It was a definite uptick in opportunity and most of the girls were sitting alone.

What stinks for me personally is I was supposed to meet that pixie last night. She sent me a message at 7:00 saying, "Bangla is cold tonight. I appreciate that the post-op girls consider themselves women and I don't want to step on that or be rude, but there are physical differences that can affect the enjoyment for the guy, so I think they should be honest about it. I personally also find it a bit disturbing, but then I also find big fake breasts fairly disturbing. So maybe I just don't like self mutilation. But I do like tattoos and piercings, so maybe I just like what I like. Mongering is hard work.

OK, given last night's debacle, I went to the nuru place today with the idea that I was assured to have a lady on top of me at some point.
