There are Bangkok and Pattaya Hotels Threads.

But there isn't any Phuket Hotel Thread!

I have booked my 5 nights in Bangkok at the Majectic Grande (3,700 baht per night), and also my 5 nights in Pattaya at the Baboona Beachfront (2,100 baht per night).

BKK's Majestic Grande is a 4 star hotel on Sukhumvit's prime location with excellent housekeeping and exquisite room service around the clock.

Pattaya's Baboona Beachfront is a solid Boutique Hotel right on the beach road with great sunset view of Patong Bay.

Both are guest-friendly hotels with no joiner's fees whatsoever, but also being 4 and 3 star hotels respectively.

However, I cannot seem to find the same type of Hotels for Phuket! All I can find is lower-end "motels" higher up on Soi san sabai.

I am looking for a 4-star hotel (or a good 3 star at least) not too far from Bangla Rd, beachfront a plus, around 3,300 Baht per night, for 5 nights in August.

Any tips highly appreciated.

How much is the montly rent of an average house in Pukhet?

That depends a lot about what you want. But to give some impression: 1 BR house in Patong area not too far from the beach THB 15.000 - THB 30.000
This is for one month rent furnished with A/C.
Discount for one year usually somewhere around 20-35% if you pay upfront.

is rai leh beach worth it for a first-time south-thailand visitor? i am planning 5 days in phuket (+5 in bkk and 5 in pattaya), activities by night will be bangla+hotel, and day will be scuba diving (just got mu open water certification ). phi phi from phuket should be reasonable by speed boat no?

depends on what you are looking for. the beach on rai leh west is very good, but mongering is non-existing. i was on phi phi 3 years ago and the diving was good. any travel agent can help you with a boat trip there. you can also do day trips from pukhet. can really recomend a 4 day live aboard trip to simlan islands.

they usually go for free. but being almost twice their age now i have to work much harder.

this is news to me, im used to the 1-2am closing times of bkk and pattaya (except for the small exceptions), but then what are bangla's "operating hours"?

i'm a good boy so i didn't stay up to see the bars close. about 2am i think, but after that you've got the discoes.

The discos (Hollywood, Baya Beach, Tiger) usually shut down at 4am. Then everyone goes to Safari disco for partying into the light of day. That's located on the road going from Patong to Karon. Easy to hook up in any of these places. Now with Songkran over, low season hits hard and there will be tons of girls and not so many tourists, so a great time to go. 29 days and counting.......

took a plane to krabi and from the airport shared a taxi with two other travelers to ao nang and there got on a long tail boat to rai leh beach. not really what i expected. thought it was a more laid back and simple place. but it’s turning into an over expensive place with too many resorts.

one of the operators was honest enough to tell that the visibility was bad and you had to take a more expensive phi phi trip for better diving. then i’ll rather stay there. lot’s of young blond 20 year old scandinavian girls in rai leh. you have to bring your own thai girl, as expected.

i was supposed to meet up with a friend in pattaya, but he had gone far up in isaan land with his new gf, but was going to move on to pukhet where another common friend was going as well, so after 4 days on my own i started the journey.

took a plane to krabi and from the airport shared a taxi with two other travelers to ao nang and there got on a long tail boat to rai leh beach. not really what i expected. thought it was a more laid back and simple place. but it’s turning into an over expensive place with too many resorts. found an ok room for 600b on the east side, but without ac. ton sai still have left some of the ambience. i did some good climbing and skipped the diving. one of the operators was honest enough to tell that the visibility was bad and you had to take a more expensive phi phi trip for better diving. then i’ll rather stay there. lot’s of young blond 20 year old scandinavian girls in rai leh. you have to bring your own thai girl, as expected.

after 3 nights i felt it was enough and took a speed boat to ko yao noi. the boat was a really good one with 3x225hp outboard engines. a lot of locals turned up at the next stop somewhere outside of ao nang. seems like turning up at the boat would have been a better deal than the 450b i paid through one of the many travel agents. on yao noi i took a 70b taxi to some bungalows mentioned in my guide book and got myself a nice one with 2 hammocks for 400b a night. i enjoyed 2 relaxing days of reading books and cruising the island on a rented scooter. it only to me 3 hours to explore it though. but a hammock, a good book and a cold singha at the beach is quite good.

i spent 2 nights there and then i took the speed boat to pukhet. it was only 200b this time, obviously much better than the 120b long tail boat ride for the other departures. arrived at the bang rong pier on the east side and a taxi to patong was a whopping 800b so as the cheap charlie i am, or cost conscious, i followed the stream and boarded a sawngthaew to krabi town for only 40b and negotiated a taxi there for 250.

met up with my friend at boomerang inn, good rooms with free internet, a 10 min walk from bangla rd and just 3 min from the beach. rooms on the front side will get some traffic noise from hat patong rd.

the next day again back to bangla rd. then on the way back to the hotel stopped at a bar in th sawadirak where i ended up bf a very quite little spinner for lt. bf 500 and 2000 for her, which seems to be the norm all over. on the way back to the hotel we stopped at a mini mart where i placed here on a scale, 38.9 kg. this one turned out a very good choice. very sexy and firm little body and good boom-boom as well.

the next day it was the same bangla bars as well and this time i took a supposedly fresh girl pushed by mama. on the way back home we took a drink at sai pan disco where my other friend picked up a freelancer. quite good selection there actually. the girl wasn’t nearly as good as yesterday catch, stretch marks as well. have to learn soon, don’t take girls pushed by the mamas, and use your own intuition.

Personally Pattaya is the best place to monger and there is loads to do but the beach is no where near as good as Patong. You can get a ferry from Pattaya to Koh larn which has better beach.

Patong is alot more relaxed and more expensive the go gos are that good either.

Try to avoid go-go bars. They tend to be more mercenary and the girls are business like. The beer bars are good. Cheap and there are many good girls. Most of the fresh girls start working in the beer bars first because there is no real pressure on them. Even if you are sitting at one bar if you spot another girl at other bars the girl at your bar will gladly go and talk to the girl.
In my opinion beer bar girls are GFE type.

A shithole to some, a rimjob to another.

May and June are not rainy season. Expect hot weather and dry in Patts.
An evening shower may stop you for half an hour in Patong, but that's it.

Pattaya is best for first timers: Easy to get to, easy to oversee and plenty 'pretty hot and tempting female body inspectors' about.

I am a big Rio Fan as you can imagine. However, this year I thought I'd try out Thailand. I heard that Pattaya was a shithole so I thought I'd try Phuket. But then this post! Are both Pattaya and Phuket (Patong) shitholes? And what about Bangkok? I guess what I'd like to know is where is the best mongering destination in Thailand? I've heard that the girls are best in Bankok, followed by Pattaya, with Phuket in last place. If Pattaya is a shithole, but has better girls than Phuket (and has a beach), then maybe I should go there?

Also, I was planning to go in May or June, but this is rainy season. Is this a big problem? Rain every day? Torrential downpours like in the Vietnam movies?

Thanks guys. Do not like Tiger so much but will check out Hollywood. Have never been there. Have been to banana's years ago. How is it now days?

Agreed, best place for semi-pros is Hollywood Disco, plenty of 'ordinary looking' girls in there just waiting to be picked up - for a nice night out and a tip
Also saw lots of 'possibles' at the main shopping mall, but thats my scene anyway, I would always take a shop girl or waitress given half the chance.
