I agree, and I'm just being picky. It really isn't about the 50. It's about saying that it's meter price plus airport charge, and issuing an official receipt stating the same, and then still tacking on that little bit extra.

In contrast, the skinny girl phoned me the next afternoon, to make sure that her friend treated me well, and to say sorry that she had a previous engagement & couldn't go with me. Nothing wrong with her PR skills.

I pay 600baht usually for the trip from airport to patong and vic versa in a private car,and I know this is a little bit of a rip-off so 450 baht does not sound that bad.I have heard on many occasions that the transport(motorbikes,red vans etc) in Phuket is run by the local mafia and they set the prices.

a couple of quick notes -- leaving phuket later today, first visit.

to get taxi meter from the airport, exit and walk right. lady there quoted "450!" (including airport surcharge) as if she expected me to pay upfront. you get a receipt form with contact number for complaints. it mentions the 100 baht airport surcharge. in the end the meter said 300, but driver still wanted 450. he looked like a thug, and i'm new in a strange place, so i paid. he also gave me his card. now that's the part i'll never understand. if you want repeat business, don't take chances.

as always in these "party" places farang and thai bring out the worst in each other. i think often aggression is a defensive reaction to rude farangs. it's like having bumped your toe -- while it's sore you'll keep on bumping it and making it worse. sad state.

i stayed in summer breeze in soi sansabai. not bad. perfect location, well, not for families. totally gf, condoms in the room on the bedside table. beware, the condoms are a booby trap. they're not on the in-room menu and at checkout you'll be charged double price for them if you used them. also breakfast is extra at 100 baht. also the menu states that juice is included in the breakfast, but "manager said don't give juice". stupid little things guaranteed to get a mention in the forum, so bill, if you're reading this, it's very easy to fix ;-)

oh, wifi was fine downstairs and in the room, but i had to fiddle a bit with my settings to get online. specifically had to se1"t "key index" to 1. don't know what that means.

the standard room didn't have a window, which is actually better as it is abnormal to wake up before 11am if you are staying in patong. so dark and quiet is better than a view of power cables and motosai. when i went to bed at 4am, the party all the way down to the beach was just beginning to show the first signs of wanting to wind down, and the discos were still in full swing.

oh yes, almost forget .. regarding girl experience, first night tracked down the local [CodeWord901]'s (right next to suzie wong's, trust me it's there, if you don't find it look harder ;-p ), sleazy but accommodating.

walking around, all the the ugly aspects of the place grated on me. stupid farangs swaggering around drunk, broken-down ladies and reptilian ladyboys calling after you, sewer smell enveloping you every now and then. eventually reached the beach and a gentle girl with a soft voice blocked my way. she was part of a little "family" selling beer from an icebox on the beach. i sat down there to witness the last part of an argument with another farang, wearing only shorts hanging on for dear life, who had been ripped of "foive toimes today!!" strangely they treated me like a king that night and even more the next. i bought a drink for me and the quiet girl, total 100 baht. next to them a group of hard-looking ladyboys roost.

went to hotel alone.

next night my mood was better, bought a tequila for a perversely thin little thing on a pole in soi eric and asked if she'll go with me. she's a very sweet young operator, and though she was booked brought over a friend from a bar across the way, saying the friend is "ready to go". i wouldn't have picked her out on my own, but a second look showed quality. the friend said she's been there two weeks, going with customers every day, but she doesn't have any money because she blows it all partying. she was drunk and wanted to go disco later. she wants to stay drunk all the time because she cries when she is sober and alone. she asked 1500 to stay until morning. she wanted to fuck non-stop, i'm afraid i couldn't keep up, only managed two rounds. we drifted off to sleep in each others arms. her phone woke me later, but she was passed out. i slowly woke her because i didn't really want her hung over in the morning, and took her to the disco. she was incredibly sweet, but from various signs i think she is fucking herself up fast. i hope her wake-up call doesn't come too late.

I will be in Phuket for around 10 days from 10 oct and this will be my first trip there.
I usually remain in BKK because i use to stay max 1 week but this time is different. I plan to stay around 3 weeks (including 10 days in BKK).

I will be staying in BYD LOFTS (photos are nice) and I will come alone.

I can tell you from first hand experience that you will not even know the festival is going on unless you go out of your way to find it. None of the festivals slow down the P4P scene. Enjoy your time with no worries.

i go every year..what is going on in Phuket town has nothing to do what goes on in Patong...not to mention that all the clubs and massages in Phuket town remain open for business...for those of you who do nothing but monger in Phuket town, it is worth the effort to get up early one morning and come see the Veg Fest parade, a truly amazing and bizarre festival and good insight into some different Thai culture

I seriously doubt that the festival would change anything. Its probably limited to Phuket town. There will be plenty of P4P in Patong and other areas.

Also it would be limited to those who chose to practise it, and I suspect the majority wont. 1 week is too long for some to go on without an income.

I have already booked the Royal Paradise hotel, but safari looks like a very good choice, I think I'll move there.

Does anyone know royal paradise? Is it GF?

I stayed at Royal Paradise a couple of years ago. At this time they had a Karaoke. If you took your girl from there, you had no joiner fee to pay. If you took a girl from outside, you had to pay 500,--. So it was definitely not GF.
