Posts: 1Can anyone please update the action at Christines? Is it still FS? What is the price? Is the best action for someone who cannot bring a date back to his room? What are my other options? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Posts: 36I saw the story in this morning's BK Post about terrorist threats to Phuket.
Quoting www.denmark.dk (Danish govt website) it said that the whole island is under threat, but especially Patong.
I checked the Danish website but couldn't find the item mentioned.
Reaction from Phuket govt officials: "this is the safest island in the world, nothing could happen here".
Um, sorry, I thought that Bali was the safest, gentlest island in the world......
Everyone knows how porous the Thai coastline is. Phuket is no safer than Bali was.
It's not going to stop my impending visit. But I do advise people to be on the lookout (difficult I know when a girl has her hand down your pants or you've just guzzled a dozen Singhas).
I've seen Arabs in Patong. Would this be a deterrent to bombing the place? Maybe if the Arabs disappear it would be a bad sign (inside knowledge)?
Terrorist f*ckwits.

I hate to break this news because I especially have enjoyed Phuket several times, but as reported in the Friday edition of the Daily Yomiuri Newspaper (English Yomiuri Shimbum) from Reuters, the Danish Foreign Ministry issued a warning of possible terrorist attacks in Phuket based on intelligence information. They singled out Patong.
I have spent most of my Phuket time on Karon Beach and ran across a lot of Scandanavian tourists there, so I think the Danish government is out to protect their own citizens.

Thanks for your inputs. I've had lots of fun in Pattaya but I definitely don't want to make it my destination for the New Years. My plan is to land in Bangkok very early on Christmas day. I then will head straight to Pattaya and will stay there 12/25 - 12/28. I’m then off to Phuket until January 2. From there I'm going to party in the Philippines until the 10th. I will then finish off my trip with 2 nights in Bangkok. Freeler gave me some great directions from Pattaya to Phuket (THANKS).
FD,
Me? Rolling in bucks? Ha-ha... Not yet. I'm working on it though. My plan is to retire in ten more years. Then I'll come and mooch off you when you move to Thailand...

Hey Prog,
I must also strongly disagree (repectfully) with Mr. Bean on any similarities between Pattaya and Phuket. A world of difference in my book. Email me if you'd like details.

Flying is the most efficient way to go.
Should be under $180 and you can buy it online at United.com for Thai Airways.
I never took the boat, but a friend took it from either Crabi or some other island out to some point near Pattaya
If $ isn't an issue, I suppose I would be in Amsterdam or Rio. (amsterdam is cold now though) For the hobby, Thailand is certainly Unique
Oh, bring your own condoms because the most common found in Thai 7-11s are small and very tight.

I assume that you saw my other post on this route.
These guys don't know that you're rolling in bucks ! So Freelers Option #1 would probably be the best for you, if you decide against the adventurous route of ferrying to Hua Hin. Freeler is also right that there is no ferry from Pattaya to Phuket. You would have to circumnavigate the entire Malay penninsula !

Sorry Dlite,
I don't know the Patong Street Inn. Freeler ?

I'm going to be traveling from Pattaya to Phuket during the Christmas Hoidays. Can anyone tell me the easiest, safest way to get there?

You can also take the train. But a VIP bus (like a greyhound) is maybe safest cleanest and cheapest
A VIP bus is cheaper than a minibus
Based on time and $., I would suggest just choosing Pattaya or Phuket. Not sure what you can really get hitting both, unless you never plan to go back. They are different, but not that much to warrant $30-$200 in transportation costs and 6-24 hours (similar getting back to Bangkok) transit to hit both beyond hotel costs.

Posts: 167We had taken a bus from Bangkok and ended up meeting with a tour operator in Phuket. We ended up booking some very resonable hotels, tours and a return trip.
If i find his email or phone number, I will post it.
Having been to Phuket a few times, I felt the quality of accomodation and level of service was great., especially using my credit card without a problem.
In the future i know I can just email him ahead of time and he can arrange pickup in Bangkok or from the Phuket airport
He was also able to arrange minibus from Bangkok to Pattaya for far less than we had ever paid.

.but I'll only be at the expat from the 22nd to 24th only.....then off to Singapore by train...I wanna sample the delights in Hat yai and Singapore too...but have to cut out Malaysia. Then I'm back at the Patong Street Inn til the 3rd.
How's the Patong Street Inn??
By they way guys..if you are looking for western girls to bang...there will be alot of English teachers in Phuket from the 22nd to the 3rd. Alot of them are from the states. Some from New Zealand. In the group I'm going with...there are at least 4 girls looking for guys.......they are not ugly...but they work in Japan...thus they are starving for some Farangs.
By the way I have the asian fever....so western girls don't appeal to me so much.

Expat is definately "girl friendly", but not the best deal in town. Why not book for a few days then search out a better spot for the remainder ?
Sultan,
Almost every place is girl friendly, unless you are staying at the "upper class' resort type places.
The diving is great. You are getting there after the rainy season and the vis is getting good. If you have time, and money, get out to the Similan Islands.
I may be in town at the same time Dec. 11th to 19th. A beer or two will get you all the insight I have, which isn't a lot !!!
Fantasea Divers are one of Phukets oldest and best dive operators.
To all: the site: phuket.com has a lot of good info, especially on hotels.

Tourist are always welcome in Malaysia anytime........
Penang to Hatyai, Thailand around 3 hrs by road.
From Hatyai you can go by air to Phuket which is cheaper if you get your plane ticket there.
