Thank you Syz and Nyezhov for the responses. I have been wanting to go to Ko Lanta, Ko Phangan, Ko Chang, Ko Tao, or Ko Samet. Been to Samui, Krabi, and Patong already. I'm a little nervous about Tao after reading about the killings there. I want a place with some girls and decent weather in July. I would want tyo stay in the most active part of the island--nothing remote. I stay away from weed in Thailand (frightened about getting reported) but enjoy it in the USA Thank you California! Maybe it would be safe to do that on one of these islands.

99% of the weed you're going to get in Thailand as a tourist is the compressed Thai dirt weed. I have a plug in Bangkok that gets me Kali but it's twice the price is in the states. Regardless, when I go anywhere, I bring my own. I wouldn't reject kothao simply because of the bad press. But most of my beach life will be on Koh Chang as I liked it out there.

One can go to beach resorts any time, but July is not best for clearness of the water. Some rains may have set in the wash dirty water into the sea. This year the wet season came very late like September, and was short where August is more normal. Maybe early July can have okay Weather.

I think gulf of Thailand in July may be better than Andaman side as weather is not the same both sides, but that is just a wild guess. I thought Koh Samet was not very optimal in September with debris in the beaches, but not so bad if beach swimming not a big objective.

Now more to the point. I was in Koh Chang end of July 2015. It was a little bit on the rainy side. The wet season had started to set in. Still could be hot at times. I did swim a little bit. The island has some very steep roads that become muddy, slippery and quite dangerous in wet season. Still could get around and do things. Some remote roads became difficult to pass by car or bus at times when major rain storms. Vehicles can slip and slide off the roads on steep inclines. Probably the main areas would not have that problem so much. There could be ideal areas without the steep roads, most likely. Others may know that. I was in a far resort with accommodation converted from timber boats.

I am sure early July could be a bit better. So late July not really recommended as ideal. Start of the wet season. If was me I would take somewhere easier for July like Koh Samet (easier to get to), I think. For sure Koh Chang can be really picturesque in the right season.

P.S. In Koh Chang I was stuck with nothing to do much. In remote resort had no internet signal. The Mrs was not helping me out much at the time. That left eating and sleeping and shitting. I don't smoke weed. So maybe you want to make sure you are somewhere sufficiently civilised that can use your time. If you have sex on tap, could be O.K.

I am not aware if Koh Chang has corral and nice tropical fish for snorkelling. Koh Samet does have some of that. I see Koh Chang has a dive centre.

My very first trip to Koh Chang before it had roads (25 years ago), was with 3 girls from Pussy Galore bar in Pat Pong. No electricity and stayed in bungalows with lanterns/lamps. Was a better season and girls mostly spent time eating and smoking weed. I got enough sex to be not so bored. So make your own entertainment. Could have been Khlong Prao (Coconut) beach since was there was a walk to a waterfall.

Quality is not worse than the beer bars in Pattaya. Girls will ask 1500 for ST at your hotel. They have ST rooms for another 300 bahts. I seemed to be the only client around 7 to 8 pm. Erawan Hotel was very girl-friendly as my girl came without ID but was waved in all the same.

The bars at Kong Prae Beach are strung along three quarters of a mile either side of the main road on the White Sand Beach side of Chai Chet resort. Few girls (sometimes only 1 or 2) in each bar. You may like this set up if you're on a motorbike as you can spot doable girls from the road before stopping.

There is at least one other miniature red-light "walking street" on Kai Bae Beach.

Thank you for the report on Hat Yai, it's rare to see something new here (and not just rehashing old well-known spots). Could you please go into more detail about where that soapy is, the names / locations of those 2-3 streets, what the hotels with girls are and what the prices were at those places? Currently, your post is more of a personal impression than a guide. A short guide to Hat Yai would be very useful and appreciated, since there's so little info here, and what exists tends to be out of date.

The soapy is inside the Pink Hotel a stone's throw from Lee Garden / the center of town.

Nearly all of the hotels in Hat Yai can arrange for these lineups to be delivered to your room. Just ask the bell boy, or even the front desk staff. Prices about 2500ST.

I don't remember the street names of the brothels, but any moto taxi driver will take you there and if you don't like one street, they will happily ferry you to the next- in the hopes of receiving a commission.

Don't go to Hat Yai expecting bang for the buck especially with pussy, the market is spoiled by the spendthrift weekend millionaire Malaysians. However, everything other than pussy (food, hotels, legit massages, transport etc.) is very cheap.

I was here a couple months ago, at about the end of June.

I stayed about a week.

It is very different from the rest of Thailand.

It feels like Malaysia. There's a bustling street food market everyday.

As a brown Indian looking person, I fit right in and was assumed to be Malaysian. It was nice to be welcomed rather than looked at with revulsion by the working Thai ladies for a change, I looked like all the other (Malaysian) tourists around. This can be to your advantage if you're non white.

The place is basically built to service Malaysians on a break. Mostly (but not all) men. This has lead to some cultural adaptations.

First is the very businesslike hotel room line-ups of women. As soon as you check in to your hotel, they can arrange for a lineup of women to be at your door to choose from.

Massages (happy endings always possible) are also room delivered.

There is a soapy in the center of the town and several brothels on 2 or 3 designated streets.

The Malaysian Ringitt is widely accepted along with the baht.

There are not many White tourists around.

Maybe about 20 bars in town, all popular with the Malaysians.

I went to Danok for 1 night just to see what it's like and it was truly horrible, especially for me as someone who no longer drinks. The best thing about it are some full service massage parlors with hot tubs and steam saunas, but be prepared to pay (3000 baht up) as they are spoiled by the Malaysians. The bars "nightclubs" are strange, Malaysian / Indonesian style where the women walk on stage (semi nude) in "fashion shows" and men pay to buy garlands and drinks for them without necessarily any physical contact.

Another thing about hotels in both Hat Yai and Danok are that they insist on holding on to your passport until you checkout, and wouldn't accept a Thai drivers license for check in.

I did not go to the islands accessible by boat from Pakbara, but I surely will the next time I am there. If you have Western sensibilities then that is probably the best thing to do, BYOB or your teelak if you are a long term expat and head to the islands (Koh Lipe and Koh Tarutao) after getting a mini-taste of Malaysia and experiencing the strangeness of Hat Yai town for a couple nights. The food is good. It is possible to find company to go with you to the islands in Hat Yai town or Danok, but it won't be cheap.

You're not new around here are you? That's how these establishments sort and classify the ladies. It may be based on appearance / demand for a specific body type or skin color, and popularity. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the level of service depends on the level of your spoken Thai and ability to give her a good dicking.
