If you look on Google Maps for "walking street" in Kai Bae area, that's where the beer bars are located.

I stayed at Kacha Resort, which is one of the more upmarket places (don't know your budget). It has quite a range of rooms / prices though. It is split across the road (as quite a few places are). The nicest rooms are on the beach side, but the rooms on the other side are a lot cheaper. You still have access to all the facilities either way though. It has a pool area and loungers facing the sea, and is just at the point where the beach turns from stones to sand, so you have access to the sandy area. Nice sea facing restaurant / breakfast place.

10 min walk to the beer bars, it is pretty much in the middle of the White Beach strip for bars / restaurants etc. Anyway, I was perfectly happy with it, although I have nothing to compare. Available on Booking.com.

I am back from some days in Koh Chang. There are various comments about this destination and what is available, so I'd like to put the record straight.

Koh Chang is a bit of the beaten track, with no airport on the island. You can fly to Trat on the mainland from BKK, but it is kind of marginal as to the benefit, given you have to do the airport faff, and then transfer via ferry anyway at the other end.

On the island, it is a bit like a Koh Samui of 20 or so years ago, quite quiet and laid back.

You certainly don't have the full range of exotic sexual services like a Pattaya, Phuket or Bangkok. No soapies, Go gos, and the massage places mostly seemed straightforward massage places (open plan inside). What you do have is beer bars. Theses are concentrated in the resorts on the North end of the West coast (the East only has a few isolated high end resorts anyway). There's a cluster at the south end of White Beach, a string of them along the main road north of Chai Chet, and a "walking street" in Kai Bei. None of these areas are huge. Maybe 15 - 20 bars in each, but if you want to find some female company, there should be enough to choose from. None of these areas are far apart (max 20 minutes by Songthaw) so if you can't find what you're looking for in one, you can try another. There's only one road round the island really, so they are easy to find. I didn't see any places in the places further South like lonely beach, although I wasn't there at night, so it wasn't so obvious...

When I went (admittedly start of the season), there weren't many customers, so plenty of choice. Overall the vibe was pretty relaxed. One evening, when I wasn't particular seeking company for the night, I went into one, had a beer, played a few games of pool, and wasn't particularly hassled to buy lady drinks or anything (as I left, they even said thank you for coming).

I also tried the online thing (see previous report in Chiang Mai for a bit of context if you like). Not much going on other than a few bar girls offering their services by another route.

Have a look around Jetyod Road, heading south from the ClockTower.

A number of small 2-3 girl bars along there.

For freelancers, go and have a look at the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar area, they congregate thereabouts to eat, drink and listen to the music.
