At CM 2 you will have a much nicer time with no hassle like the hassle you had at the ex diplomat, having read your repports. .

Diplomat sounds like a branch of the Disco at Grace Hotel in Bangkok.

I've been to the Grace Hotel coffee shop once, many moons ago. I was not at all impressed with the talent on offer.

While the Grace is predominantly an Arab playground, the old Diplomat was dominated by Indians/Pakis, followed by Arabs, with few others (Russian, Asian, Western, African). Some nights it was 90% Indians/Pakis! While I'm not fond of Arabs, they are generally well behaved. But the Indians/Pakis are a real pest.

CM2 disco at Novotel hotel, I am sure you know that is the complete opposite.

I can confirm that Diplomat moved to the former Sky Club attached to the Le Grande Hotel. Same hoes, same crowd, same security.

So the current situation in Tashkent seems to be:

Tashkent is a city of wide tree-lined avenues, where the traffic never seems to get stuck. It’s a green city with plenty of parks & fountains. The climate is perfect to walk around and discover the diverse architecture. Tashkent is well & truly a delightful place to be!

Would not advise anyone to avoid this country, unless they are Angeles City or Pattaya king types.

Introduction

The Real Deal

After recovering from a lumbar hernia, I was a little apprehensive before embarking on my 1st mongering trip of 2010. Luckily, my gammy back survived the merciless assaults from horny Thai & Filipina LBFMs.

My next adventure was already planned - I’d been quick to snap up a discounted ticket to Uganda. Before getting immersed in a sea of brown sugar, I fancied some white meat. Uzbekistan sounded promising.

The Long Haul

My plane ticket was obviously the same price whether I stayed for a week or a month. Strangely enough, renting an apartment presented a similar deal. Having the choice between paying 50 USD/day or 600 USD/month, I opted for the long haul.

Between the World Cup and Ramadan, I planned on spending 25 nights exploring Tashkent’s nightlife. Was it wise to spend that amount of time in a provincial FSU capital? I had no idea, but the luxury of time would mean no pressure on getting laid every night. Besides, a couple of meals and a few beers a day sure wouldn’t break the bank.

Registering my passport turned out to be a major pain in the ass. Lack of cultural awareness and the disappointing quality of the talent on offer were other contributing factors. After 4 nights in Tashkent, I still hadn’t received a single female visitor.

At first, I figured time was on my side. But as the days passed, my frustration grew. I had to get my name on the scoreboard.

The first few days, I’d felt as if I was the only Westerner in Tashkent. Having dinner at Agat Kafe, I spotted a fellow traveler who didn’t speak the lingo. He turned out to be a Scottish businessman living in Afghanistan.

When the restaurant stopped serving beer, we shared a cab to Diplomat. Shortly after 11 PM, Diplomat looked deserted, but soon started filling up. On a Friday night, the local Pakistanis and Indians were out in force.
