Thanks I also found this place after reading reviews here and other blogs, seem decent reviews and new. So I checked it out last week, around 5 pm, not very busy but there were some customers come in and out, both locals and tourists.

So a couple of basic questions:

- How does one know the ticket price? Other posts have explicitly said NOT to ask for prices, so how are you supposed to know the prices for different establishments?

- It seems common to tip equal to the ticket price, which to me seems incredibly odd. The tip is voluntary, right? If the ticket price is 300 k I can simply pay that and tip absolutely nothing right?

Most reputable place have their price clearly listed and should charge the same price for locals or tourists. IF you don't see price clearly listed, leave, you might in for trouble. There are some places even dangerous for locals. Ie, after the terrible service they will charge you 5 x 10 x the promised price. If you don't pay, there are thugs waiting around there already. Even if you call the police it could be too late. So do your home work, ask around of refer from friends.

- to answer the questions why there are ticket price and mandatory tip.

Ticket price are for the shop owner (rent / heating / cooling / water / cleaning / facilities / protections / employee not ladies / profit) and the Mandatory tips are for the ladies, because they don't get paid at all by the owner / shop. So your tip is their salary, and they live on it. Many shop they have minimum tipping policy is the same as ticket price. Some terrible shop / owner even get a % cut from the ladies' tip to make more money. That means, the girl even have to pay the owner to work there (so they can make money). So sometimes, if you get terrible service / attitude, mostly because the lady don't get paid enough / not happy with with what they are doing / making.

Of course, if you not happy with the service / price, feel free to talk to manager / owner. They might get you discount or something.

- Thats why, sometimes when I go massage in Hanoi, I always ask my locals buddies where they like to go, it could cost a bit more, but I get much better quality time and service, and reduce lot of risks (robs / thef / bad services /.).
