Planning soon for a trip to Hanoi. Would any one recommend a friendly hotel with a gym? I also prefer hotels near parks?

Had a meeting cancelled near the Opera House today. So thought I'd try my luck at 28 Hang Chuoi. Walked in about 4pm. Two nice girls inside (about 7) , a motorbike, a guy and a young mamasan. I could see the rooms were empty.

Typical Hanoi situation. They had no other business going, but were too stubborn / uncommercial to do a deal. Just not prepared to pay 400K (ie USD20) up front for this place.

Frankly I'm out of touch with Hanoi. I used to be here in the late 1990s. Fond memories of at least 2 or 3 places right in the old quarter where you could have a quiet, sensual full hour including fun for VND100, 000 or so. Ditto some karaoke / cat toc thu gian places just a block south of HK lake. The central places seem to have dried up now.

Feeling horny after a night out and not wanting to make the long journey to Pham Van Dong for my regular BJ, I decided to cruise around and see if I could find some mongering action nearer to where I was. [/QUOTE]Ok, so I think this is just a case of you not fully understanding the wonderful Vietnamese street name / numbering thing; it takes a while the get used to it. In this case it appears pretty simple. Go into Google Maps and type "To Ngoc Van, Hanoi" into the search bar (without the quotation marks) and the correct road will pop up. You will then see in the map heading upwards a road running between two lakes called "Ngo 52". Ngo basically means "alley" or "side-street" in Vietnamese, I think it is this "Ngo 52" that Joffre is suggesting that you cruise down to find the action. I haven't been there myself yet, so can't comment on the services.

As a general rule when using Google Maps, at least in Hanoi, never try putting in a number as you will never get an accurate result because the numbering of properties and alleys etc. Is completely screwed up. Find the road you want, try to get some pointers as to where on the street the place you are looking for is, and then just head out there and keep a close eye out for numbers as you drive by.

If you're arriving late and want night action, you could head over to To Ngoc Van lane 52, where there are several Nha Nghi small hotels, of which some are brothels. The ones with guys outside waving you in. Mainly active at night, and fairly discreet. Haven't tried myself, but this would be higher class than Pham Van Dong (anything would be!) but lower and cheaper and a lot less hassle than Nutz.

I sniffed around looking for the talked about girls. 156 Is a Thai massage place, so I did not go in as I couldn't be bothered with the sauna massage ritual followed by argument over the price of a happy ending. Tam Quat is actually a traditional form of Vietnamese massage; although generally most of these places, and certainly all the ones referred to on her are generally just a front for extra services. What that may be will vary from place to place. Some you'll just be able to get HJ, some places BBBJ some CIM others not, and the occasional one that may offer FS.

A VIP massage is normally a longer affair that does involve receiving an actually massage. It will start off with a steam bath and sauna, and then being bathed in a bath and being scrubbed down by your massage girl. This generally isn't as erotic as it sounds, and 99 places out of 100, you'll be wearing shorts while you're in the bath. Then you'll be given your massage for an hour. Some places will then have extras at the end and some won't. Generally I've only found extras in Hanoi to be HJ. That's the same at most massage places as they often have see through windows in the door. Other places that I've written about in the past outside of Hanoi are much more likely to be FS at the end of the massage.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the VIP experience, especially as the language barrier can make everything quite awkward. By all means give these massage places a go, but I'd normally recommend just going for the straight massage and not the VIP treatment. Any extras offered at the end will still be the same.

Anything that you want is available if you look hard enough, and there are plenty of good reports here as a few of us seek out some of the less well travelled spots in this city, however if you are only stuck to getting around by taxi, then that certainly could make it difficult getting to a lot of these places.

I mentioned this place in a report a while back, although at the time I didn't have the number of the place to report, so I thought I would provide an update.

I headed out to Pham Van Dong after pub kick-out time recently and was hoping to hit my favourite FS place at No. 237, however at this time of night (after 11pm) that part of the street seems to have shut down already.
