As a general statement, when traveling overseas:

For exchange, bring USD100 bills for exchange. Bring the newest type (3 D security ribbon; bell in the inkwell); specimens that are clean and crisp as possible. Keep in mind, the money changer doesn't have ability to "trade up" without cost.

There are some jewelry stores who also do currency exchange, either openly or discreetly. In those situations, an incrementally better rate can be had--if only because the store wants the US currency for its own use.

For my trip to VN, I was able to purchase dong from my bank before departure. The rate wasn't bad. It gave me a sense of security to know I had some dong on me, and wasn't under pressure to find somewhere to trade currency upon arrival. I did not trade excessively, so I didn't have too much left over when I left. What little I had, I gave to VN friends in the States who were departing for VN.

Stayed a couple of nights in old town. First time in Hanoi for 12 years. What a difference! Every corner there will be a pimp offering girls for a good time. Avoid! Matrons on motors bikes. For Saigon, I have booked my hotels and apartments nearby little Japan and bui vien street but confused about Hanoi. Most of the famous hotels seem to be in the old quarter area. I am planning to try Lady windy massage and Fortuna hotel spa but they seem bit far from this area.

Can you guys recommend any good hotels or areas where I should stay for mongering. Also does the hotel spas in old quarter provide any service?

Took a grab taxi and reached there.

You directly land to second floor, from there lift reception boy opens lift and swap the card and you reach to destination, which is at 4 floor.

Immediately they hand over menu.

Price range for Room type, time to be spent etc.

I chose 600 K room, 750 k for service, total 1350 k package.

They show the girl, you can refuse and ask for more options.

I chosen Vee I gues (that's what I remember).

Service starts with Sauna, jaccuzi bath, baby oil massage and BJ. For me it was CBJ. She didn't offer FS nor I asked.

I arrived in morning here.

Took the local sim from Airport. Viettel 300 vnd (or 13 $). Very reasonable price I would say for 4 gb / day for 30 days and 50 local calls. Sufficient for my stay.

I carried USD, at airport they are paying 23500/ usd, which is very good price. I found the same price near to my hotel as well.

Local transport. Immediately I installed grab taxi and booked for my hotel. Price is good. Driver arrived in time and no problem at all.

Even for local transport nearby, I used grab taxi all the time. No problem anywhere, anytime. Sometime grab driver call you, I look for some local help. I always got help from somebody.

Food. Just great with variety and for price.

People I found little shy to talk with foreigner but they do listen, try to understand and help. Nice people.

Visited Hanoi during the mid December. Had an evening free. So visited this palce called Neko Nuru. They have 2 branches and visited La Thanh.

It is a seprate building where they house KTV, Strip club etc. Once you enter the reception person guides you to floor 4 for the Nuru.
