The last couple of days I stayed in Hanoi. This little experience happened all but 10 minutes ago.

Depends where you are. In the main centres, it's USD; everywhere else it's dong. Basically, if it's higher than 6 figures in dong, they switch to USD.

By the way, that price of $80 for a room doesn't sound right. Before my trip I hunted high & low for rooms at the Fortuna on many different sites and the cheapest I could get was $120, before taxes etc. ($138 after taxes). The second time I went I got the room for a bit less $115, by reserving directing with the hotel. Gripes aside (in my report), it's a superb hotel, boss club or no boss club.
