I'd love to share my experience after ward!

Sounds a bit like going to the US for Viets. You may try Mui Ne though. Can't order food there if you don't read Russian.

Can anyone offer suggestions of places to do some mongering while in Saigon. Also looking at a side trip to Phenom Penh for a couple of days. Overall will be in Vietnam and Cambodia for a week. What are my prospects likely to be going during Tet?

Your prospects will be very poor. Everyone in Vietnam goes home to spend time with their family during Tet holiday, some for a few days, some for a couple of weeks. Monger options are extremely bad at that time of year. It's like the 2 weeks out of 52 when you absolutely would not want to visit Vietnam for mongering purposes. Cambodia should be its usual self then, so at least you have that to look forward to.

I will be traveling to Ho Chi Minh for the first time in February. It will be the week of Tet. I am staying at the Dragon Palace Hotel. I will spend the Eve of Tet and day of Tet in the Mekong Delta with a Vietnamese family. Can anyone offer suggestions of places to.

I use www.opedo.com and just got my flight with Thai flying into Hanoi and out via Hoi Chi Min. The cheapest was Emirates but it was a 36 hour journey home so check the flight times carefully.

Just sample flight dates. Looks like Thai Air is cheapest closely followed by Emirates, both round $850-860 more or less. This out of London.

If you are looking for direct flight there are not many not sure where are you flying from, if you want cheap flight you need to transfer at Hong Kong or Bangkok just check one of the airline fare web site to get best fare.

Funny you should ask.

I have talked to girls in Haiphong that do that. They generally work for some sort of "travel agency" and they claim that this is just a tour guide / companion. NO sex involved at all. The girls I talked to really loved it. Because they got to meet foreigners (seems that the VN are fascinated with meeting foreigners, at least that has been my reception during the large amount of time I have spent in VN). But again, they stressed. This is G rated stuff only. I don't know about HCMC. But I suspect a hotel can point you in that direction. But I also suspect that isn't what you are looking for. Again, try wechat, in haiphong, this has been a gold mine for me.

I can confirm, I have met a number of VN girls in various jobs. And many enjoy meeting foreigners, but that is as far as it goes. Unless they are husband hunting and you are spouse hunting.

This street is called 18 H&I Hun Nghip and this alley is opposite grand Saigon hotel. There is a small local restaurant at the corner. Sit there and get a beer and you wll see the beauties parade in and out for selection every time someone goes in. You will may more confident walking in after seeing this for a bit. Also you can pre-choose while sipping a beer with no pressure. Please do no offer more that 1 Mil VND all included (room also included) The guy may ask for more but will accept 1 Mil gladly. Lets not drive up the prices for us poor souls.

Important for something like this, what TIME is good to go sit there?

This isn't my scene at all, but that is the kind of detail that one would need to know -- I've noticed for example that the girls who get brought for lineups to ST hotels round there (or actually closer to Ben Thanh, off the canal) seem to operate from about 7 pm t 9 pm, with slimmer pickings later, and outside those hours you don't see them anywhere. They're easy to spot because you see a guy with 2 girls in sexy outfit and no helmets riding fast through traffic, and usually more than one motorbike like that, going more or less together on their way to some hotel somewhere. If these girls are part of that same scene, and they might be, then it would be evening time only, no point going there day time or late at night. But maybe your place is not part of what I've seen.
