Like Wendella says U2 is now bar 29 situated on Dong Khoi diagonally opposite the Grand Hotel. Other bars in centre of D1 are on Dong Do, Hai Bai Trung and Mac Thi Boui - all an easy walk from the Caravelle.

for pro you want Hai Ba Trung near the river, many in that area. Can't miss the places, just walk around, you'll see it. For semi, go to the discos I guess. Much tougher to crack that though, esp as a newbie.

Givral is a chain of coffee shop /restaurants. One is on the corner opposite Opera and the Continental Hotel and the other is under the Palace Hotel on Nguyen Hue. The one at the Palace gets a lot of nice corporate style ladies in there.

the ones i have seen occasionally were clearly a bit overdressed and hanging around at highland, illy and the other coffee shops near there. too professional looking for me so i passed. i have also had some more natural encounters at givral.

i have not been back recently since the hotel i use fixed its broadband so i have no need of the coffee shops with wifi.

maybe i'll take a peek soon -- not often down there afternoons. givral, i don't know that one. "natural encounters" -- sounds very spiritual. ;-)

Sudsoz, which cafes are you talking about? Can you give any more detail than that? I hit cafes sometimes but haven't seen any obvious WG's. Maybe I need to get my vision checked.

Many of the Hai Ba Trung bars open early and have a few girls around, at least. Some more, some less.

If you turn up at the bars early (5 or close to), make it clear you need something, girls will turn up pretty quickly. The bars sort of open their doors at about 5 and, as discussed, massage in HCMC is very hit and miss. I have seen pretty obvious WG in the coffee shops near opera and carravelle area mid afternoon. In the area around Dong Do and Dong Khoi you might say hello to attractive ladies wandering without a lot of purpose. You might find something as the WG have a indefinable difference even by day.

Is it much easier to bring a girl back to an apartment in Vietnam rather than a hotel? I've been in Vietnam for 2 years, but have been living in mini hotels because I've been travelling around a lot. I am too embarrassed to bring a girl back to the mini hotel, because the families know me for a long time and I don't want them to think I'm "bad man."

I assume it's much easier to bring a girl back to an apartment, but don't really know. Is it? Are there "security" goons who will try to stop her?

Is there a difference if she's a girlfriend or a pro?

Is it possible to rent apartments for short terms, like 3 or 6 months? I mean for reasonable local prices, not "foreign executive" prices. Where would I find these apartments, in the newspaper?

Try small private serviced apartments, plenty of those in Vietnam News. Or ask your colleagues, gentlemen of course. I'm sure they would help you out.

You have the wrong country. You obviously want Thailand. Massage in Vietnam is nothing like what you get in Thailand. There's no soapie anything, no inflatable mattresses and no naked girls, period. What is available in any shady massage or hot tocs pales in comparison to what's on offer in Thailand. Get ready to be very disappointed. Sorry.

The massage places in HCMC all give you a pair of their shorts to wear and take other measures to avoid hanky panky. If you bluster enough you avoid the shorts but anything else is luck of the draw.
