I’d like to talk about a topic that doesn’t get much “play” here—meeting "regular" girls in Ho Chi Minh City. I’m just as much of a monger as most on this site, but as someone who’s fortunate enough due to my work to be living in Medellín, Colombia, I have easy access to inexpensive working girls as often as I want, so my passion for the pro scene these days is not nearly as high as it would be if I were living in the USA and taking a vacation to Vietnam.

So, my questions are as follows:

1) How receptive are most Vietnamese girls to Caucasian Americans? To give you a background on me, I’m 35 years old (look younger) and am better than average looking.

2) Which places in Ho Chi Minh City are the best places to meet regular girls? Obviously, shopping malls and other similar places would be on the list. Are there any in particular that are recommended?

I will be in Vietnam for 2-4 weeks, depending on how I like it. Any advice would be appreciated. I would also be interested in hearing from some Viet Kieus who might be interested in getting together during my trip, which will have me arriving in HCMC on Dec. 2. I plan to learn as much Vietnamese as I possibly can prior to the trip, but I know that whatever I know won’t be enough.

They were gutting it this week and the owner has decided to turn it into a shop. That's according to staff there, who I talked to. No there isn't anything else like it out there. What you see is what you get. Most of the same people will gravitate to the other places--I saw one of the Sahara regulars at Apocalypse this past week. Like you, they'll be looking for other places to go, and those places will become more like Sahara was as a result. That's how Sahara became what it did. About 2 yrs ago, the police shut down what were the big 3 late night spots (Long Phi, Lost in Saigon and Apocalypse) at the same time, and suddenly the small, dark, quiet Sahara was the one happening place after midnight. The whole backroom area opened not long after that transformation, to accommodate the crowds. A couple months later, Long Phi reopened as a straightlaced quiet bar down the road from its old locale (it was right next to Lost in Saigon before); Apocalypse stuck to closing at midnight rather than 2am, and Lost ... I'm still not sure what happened to Lost in Saigon. Is it a gay bar now? It does still stay open late at least.

Sahara on Pham Ngu Lao St, District 1 has been closed for the last three weeks now, anyone know if it will reopen?

It went thru a particularily nasty drug raid. I was there when it happend. All off a sudden, the light came on a 1:30 am, and the doors slammed shut. No one was let out of the club. Lost of screaming and shouting.

All the foreigners was set free and the VN were held back loaded up on trucks and sent to the police station. (150+) for drug testing.

I came with two lady friends, when I refused to leave without them, they himmed and hawed and finally let us off the back door. Just put on a smile and talk friendly, the last thing they want to do is take a foreigner to the police station and have to call a foreign embassy to pick them up. All the negotations took about 45 minutes. No money changed hands.

Since I will be in VN for a while it looks like.
Is there another club like Sahara? Was not too impressed with Lost in Saigon or the other backpacker bars.

Almost do not go downtown to D Khot street. The women are too aggressive, you do not enough time to choose anything before you get swarmed for drinks and gum.

Went to Volcano, apocalypse. not impressed.
Gossip, liquid, and rainforest was good, but not quite the same talent and relaxed atmosphere as Sahara. And since I have been here only 4 weeks, any mongerers out there with better options?

I have been reading messages on this forum for a few years now and I found them to be very valuable. It does not matter where I am in the world, this is the place where I come to for information on P4P.

I have been to Vietnam for a few times now, and I totally love the country. Vietnam is a value for money country if you know where to go. You can find some gorgeous women in clubs, bars, massage palours and karaoke places.

If you stay in a 5 star hotel, they usually have a bar or a night club in the basement, where you pay for one or more girls to sit and entertain you. Generally the cost per girl per hour is $VN150,000, and the services include sitting, chatting & dancing with you, and allowing you to hold and caress them lovingly. If you would like additional services, you could arrange that with the girl or the mamasan. So don't be shy to ask.

The girls in the bars & clubs are expensive, but they are better in terms of business dealing than the ones on the motorcycles. The ones on the Motorcycles are the rejects of the clubs, bars, karaoke and massage palours.

If you pick up a girl from either a bar or a night club and she robs you, you can report her to the manager of the bar/night club. They will ban her from entering the bar/night club (she will turn into a motorcycle girl, running the street looking for you).

Just a few tips on the masseurs. They have a base salary of about $VN250,000 a month (enough for petrol to get them to work only). They live on their tips.

The tips are at your disposal. You dont have to give tips if you dont want to. However, even the locals give $VN100,000 per session to the girls. That is per session of 45 minutes. If you go for 1.5 hrs, that is 2 sessions.

Generally, the going rates for the masseurs are:

Without HJ
you pay for the normal massage plus you tip the girl $VN100,000 (Dong);

With HJ
you pay for the normal massage plus you tip the girl $VN150,000 (Dong);

Now, the normal masssage would cost around $VN100,000 for 45 minutes. This allows you to use the steam room, the sauna, the cold & hot pool. In addition, they will also give you a coffee, tea, water and a small plate of fruit in an air conditioned cinema room while you are waiting for your girl (you tell the attandant the type of girl you like and they will try to please you) or waiting for yourself to total relax before your massage.

When the massage has finished you can stay and watch a movie, have a coffee, tea, water and fruits as well as use the heath facilities again, and for as long as you like.

There are lots of girls (sometimes 25-30 girls) at these premises. And they take turn to make their livings. Once a girl has finished with a customer, she has to wait for 25-30 customers to come through before it's her turn again to earn some money. This sometimes can be up to 3 or 4 hours.

The masseurs work between 10 to 12 hours a day and earn between $VN300,000 and $VN500,000, assuming that the average tip is $VN100,000 per session. The earnings will be 50% less if the average tip is $VN50,000.

The owner only allow these girls to work 3-4 days per week - on alternative days -, as they want their premises to have as many selections as they could. And when these girls get older or gain a bit of weight, the owner will terminate their employment.

Most masseurs will not sleep with you, but some will if they like you. I have picked up a few chicks from the massage parlours. They came to my hotel after their shifts and stay till the morning. They did not ask me for any money, but I gave them some.

I hope this will help you when you are in Vietnam.

I went to a haircut place. And just got a regular shave. No massage or anything. Anyway it was getting a little late and I was telling the girl that I was traveling and didn't know the area well and needed to find a hotel. She said she could help me find one. Anyway we went out and had some coffee and then she showed me the hotel... She conveniently said she wanted to stay with me. :) She didn't want to be thought of as a "working girl" so she didn't mention money or anything... Anyway she had the most beautiful body and silky white skin and great in bed... But then she say's "I have to leave very early in the morning to work" She then wanted to sleep - but I could tell she wasn't sleeping ... She was waiting for me to fall asleep.. Sensing her plot I got up and put my shorts on and put my wallet inside them... Then I could a shallow sigh of resignment coming from her... Anyway early morning came my wallet and money intact :) But I did give her 100 thousand as a goodbye gift.

If you keep on your toes you might beat them at their own game hihi. But I've been beaten a couple times too as you saw what happened in my earlier post. The vast majority of the girls I've met are honest at what they do and you have no worries. Just a few of them will try to deceive you in one way or another...

I noticed that Asian Rain was originally talking about a spot that was around the corner from Le Duan, not perpendicular to it but parallel, and where the road crosses over a bridge. This street is the end of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, actually named Xo Viet Nghe Tinh at this spot. And on that street, near the bridge, there's another entrance to the zoo, which isn't the main entrance, I think. Not sure.

I have yet to spot any moto girls circling at the main entrance at the end of Le Duan. With the entrance to the History Museum nearby, I would suspect that LE would keep this area clear. Perhaps exceptions occur.

As the night park has opened for kids near the zoo entrance opposite the Mitsubishi dealership on NTMK, the moto girls seemed to have stopped crossing the bridge. I now walk over the bridge and sit on the railing. The best pattern I can discern is that girls start up the street and make the turn around about halfway up the bridge.

Last couple of pickups have been good value... the last one brought me to an aircon hotel that only charged VND50,000 for an hour (woo-hoo!). The last pickup (or do they pick me up?) was great fun because it was her first time to see a video camera. What a star. Have fun, AR+

Sorry to hear about the snake bite! As I previously reported on this scam, please be careful and keep your valuables in sight at all times. You can be sure that the hotel is in on the scam... the second girl would never get in without their help. Indeed, the hotel staff is probably helping to coordinate the scam by providing a room across from yours for the other girl to hide once she has taken your money.

When at the mini hotel, I always personally lock and bolt the door. Never carry more than is necessary to do business. Leave rings/watches/etc. at your hotel. Keep your valuables IN SIGHT at all time. I NEVER PAY in advance... the girls often ask for money up front, I just say "boom boom first, money second." Don't be shy about seeming distrustful... the girls don't trust us mongers either! Even my Vietnamse mamasan in Cambodia warned me about people in HCMC... good advice! Stay secure, AR+

This came as a suprise to me, as I did not check the vietnam forums before my trip , which I just came back from. This is because I went with my wife. We were staying at the Continental Hotel, and decided to have a massage one afternoon. i've been here almost 4 years now so i know my way around the area.

if you want something more than a hj the massage parlors won't offer more on the premisis - you'll notice that the door has windows on it. but you may be able to go on a date with one. if she likes you.

you will have pretty good success in the haircut places especially in the suburbs. look for a haircut place where they are dressed a bit sexy and surely they will offer you some services there. probably more than half of the haircut shops in the outskirts will offer and at least half of them you will get a bj. i've turned the bj to "woo hoo" right on the spot in some haircut places. you need to get the girl horny by being romantic and playing with her. i've had some haircut girls call me and they asked me to go to the hotel with them. you've got to give them a fun time and and they will respond.

i know some cafe om's in the suburbs where they will give you a all out fully naked bj for 50 - 70 thousand dong. look for a small cafe with a couple sexy girls in front and the cafe has no tv or music, very few chairs and tables and sells limited beverages usually only sell "sua dau nanh" and "xaxi" (soy milk and vietnamese style root beer - which is terrible by the way!) probably at half of these places in the outskirts they will beg you to go to the hotel with them. some of them even offer it right on the spot.

in vietnam it's ridiculous, it's quite funny actually, they have so many different "om" places. they are everywhere. bia om, karaoke om, hot toc om, cafe om, massage om, goi dau om, i've even seen a "banh mi opla om" haha quite a way to top of your breakfast! depending on the establishment and how you play it, any of these places can bring you the big score.

the om concept is a part of the vietnamese culture. it's not really the foreigners that are fueling this industry but the vietnamese themselves. when i go to these places i have never seen another foreigner there. only vietnamese.

one thing: please be discreet. people know what you are doing... the police regularly shut down these places and confirep001e their goods. they won't bother the foreigners but they will bother the cafe owners by shutting them down. use it by all means but don't abuse it if you know what i mean.

about getting your bang for the buck. the closer to the city the more expensive. i've had normal looking girls for as low as 50 thousand and stunning looking ones for 100 - 300 thousand in the suburbs and outskirts. also they are more sweet and eager to please than you'll find in the city. it helps if you can speak vietnamese - then you can usually get the "vietnamese" price.

i've been going to saigon since 1996 and these are the ways i've tried to find girls:

1. introduction by a cyclo driver: my experience here is hit and miss. if you can find a reliable one, you can get some real finds. upside is that it is usually safe if you know the cyclo driver. downside is that the cyclo driver takes a commission. i've also had mediocre service from girls introduced by drivers i considered reliable. i've also gotten some bum steers from cyclo drivers i've just met. on the other hand, i've had some wonderful experiences through cyclo driver introductions.

2. hai ba trung and other bars: i haven't had good experience here. prices are a little high and girls were not that attractive and service was uninspired. to me, girls here seem somewwhat jaded, while i prefer the cute, amateur types that have that fresh look.

3. on the street: interestingly enough, these have been my best finds. you have to look around, but there are some real attractive ones. sometimes, you can tell by their attitude if they will be good in bed. (there are exceptions, however.) in these situations, i take them to a mini-hotel of my choice. i'm always careful to lock the door and take the girl into the shower with me. i haven't had trouble with theft. i can usually sense a rip-off. i never take a girl to a hotel when i've been drinking. i have found the pham ngu lao area to be a good hunting ground. i haven't tried the zoo, but will do so in november. you can find all types on the street: jaded ones and young, fresh, enthusiastic ones. the trick is to find one who is experienced enough to be good in bed, but not experienced enough to be jaded.

4. massage parlors: i haven't found this to be a good solution. prices are high for limited service such as hj.

5. upscale bars such as new world, caravelle, sheraton, etc.: haven't had much success here. quality and availability are not that high and prices are high and service somewhat low.

well i am in vietnam now, and like in the past i have carried 2 laptops back while only declaring one. on my last trip i left both of them behind, and was hassled about it, but the 10usd slip was all it took to make things smooth over, although i honestly didn't mean to forget the second laptop, i was just to much in a rush being as i was finishing a st about 45 mins before my flight was to take off.
