i've been going to saigon since 1996 and these are the ways i've tried to find girls:

1. introduction by a cyclo driver: my experience here is hit and miss. if you can find a reliable one, you can get some real finds. upside is that it is usually safe if you know the cyclo driver. downside is that the cyclo driver takes a commission. i've also had mediocre service from girls introduced by drivers i considered reliable. i've also gotten some bum steers from cyclo drivers i've just met. on the other hand, i've had some wonderful experiences through cyclo driver introductions.

2. hai ba trung and other bars: i haven't had good experience here. prices are a little high and girls were not that attractive and service was uninspired. to me, girls here seem somewwhat jaded, while i prefer the cute, amateur types that have that fresh look.

3. on the street: interestingly enough, these have been my best finds. you have to look around, but there are some real attractive ones. sometimes, you can tell by their attitude if they will be good in bed. (there are exceptions, however.) in these situations, i take them to a mini-hotel of my choice. i'm always careful to lock the door and take the girl into the shower with me. i haven't had trouble with theft. i can usually sense a rip-off. i never take a girl to a hotel when i've been drinking. i have found the pham ngu lao area to be a good hunting ground. i haven't tried the zoo, but will do so in november. you can find all types on the street: jaded ones and young, fresh, enthusiastic ones. the trick is to find one who is experienced enough to be good in bed, but not experienced enough to be jaded.

4. massage parlors: i haven't found this to be a good solution. prices are high for limited service such as hj.

5. upscale bars such as new world, caravelle, sheraton, etc.: haven't had much success here. quality and availability are not that high and prices are high and service somewhat low.

i'm sure others have had different experiences. i'd love to hear from you. feel free to pm me with your experience.

well i am in vietnam now, and like in the past i have carried 2 laptops back while only declaring one. on my last trip i left both of them behind, and was hassled about it, but the 10usd slip was all it took to make things smooth over, although i honestly didn't mean to forget the second laptop, i was just to much in a rush being as i was finishing a st about 45 mins before my flight was to take off.

anyone in hcm want to have a beer or a wingman that is a vietkieu and speaks more then enough vietnamese to get by give me a call on my mobile 090 710 7956 and i have more then enuf contacts for the girls if you want them along with hotels in certain areas.

Where is the best "bang for my bucks" in Saiogon during the daytime? I am only free during the daytime due to business obligations in the evening times.

Last time I was in Saigon, I pretty much stuck to massage parlors and coulnd't get anything more than a HJ. The massage was very nice and the overall cost was pretty low, but I want something more than a HJ on this trip.

I actually drove by that zoo entrance a few times around 9pm in recent days. Nothing. The police do clamp down on these kinds of spots. Sometimes they bounce back after a dormant period and sometimes not. I believe you saw what you saw, definitely, but I have a feeling it's been shut down. There used to be a spot out near the airport like that, at the end of Le Van Sy street, that was very active for a long time. It doesn't exist anymore. Nguyen Thai Hoc at the end of Pham Ngu Lao street was another active spot that is finished now.

One thing I forgot to mention is, that before I figured out the 11:00 girl in the room drill, on two occasions I insisted on use of a back room and was accomodated on both occasions for FS. Not exactly your 5 Star hotel, nice shower, comfy bed experience, but a learning experience and maybe convenient if you do not have hotel in the area. I have, after two not-so-good experiences, avoided mini-hotels, maybe easier for you, but see earlier post.

I just asked a Vietnamese friend who goes back to VN every single year for the past 5 years. He stays there at least 2 months at a time. He gave me some tips very very similar to yours.

This year, I am kinda lucky. I am going back there the same time as he does. He will go with me the first couple times and will show me around the town. I grew up in HCM city, but I left the country for a long time. So, everything is different now.

Anyhow, I will let you guys know when I get back from VN in December.

Hey FS,

I agree with AR. Things are different now and FS in MP's are hard to find. The last time I found FS in HCMC was in '96. These places that use to have FS are no longer in operation or they do not offer FS anymore. The nearest place you will find FS in MP's is in Vung Tau. If you visist Danang, many MP's will offer FS too. Don't wast your time in HCMC for this type of thing. Anyway, have a good time in Vietnam.

Btw, if you do happen to find a FS place in HCMC, don't post the name of the place. The local LE has access to this site too!

I do not claim to be an expert on MP in HCMC, but I think FS may be a stretch. I have been there several times in the last year or so and have done hotel fitness centers and one MP, big one, not far from Caravelle and Sheraton. In the hotel, HJ is no problem with maybe a little mock BJ thrown in and basically the same in the MP I visited. The MP rooms all have a clear glass window which limits the possibilities. Others may have had better experiences and I'd be glad to learn, as you, from them.
Bars on Hai Ba Trung are not bad value and, if you find the right GFE girl, you can get the deed done for $50.00 plus a small bar fine as long as you get back to the hotel before 11:00. This is a good option if you are trying to stay away from LE. Strike the deal, return to your room and ten minutes later the front desk will call to inquire whether you are expecting Ms.Thuy which, of course, you are.

I've been going there about 3 times a year for the past few years and was there in mid-July the last time. I would be a bit surprised if it has been shut down because it is not that obvious and quite informal. I was there around 9pm and I actually stood on Le Duan on the same side of the street as the Sofitel, maybe 50 meters before it dead ends into the zoo. The girls seem to do a circuit around this zoo area. I admit that it is not obvious because you may be one of the only people strolling around there at that time of night. But the girls will ride by on their motorbikes, u-turn, head back towards the zoo, cruise by Asian Rain, and then circle all the way back and repeat.

What time were you prowling?

I just wanted to clarify something you mentioned about this area by the zoo. If you go to the end of Le Duan, is this spot you go to that street running perpendicular to Le Duan, that Le Duan runs into? That would be Nguyen Binh Kiem street. If so, when you reach that corner, do you turn left, right or just go straight ahead? I have to say, I've been in that area a few times and have never seen anything happening there. Unless I'm missing it somehow.

Also, when were you there? How recently? Was it in the last 2 months or so? Things change, and maybe it's been shut down by now. Or maybe not, maybe I just haven't been there at the right time.

I noticed that Asian Rain was originally talking about a spot that was around the corner from Le Duan, not perpendicular to it but parallel, and where the road crosses over a bridge. This street is the end of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, actually named Xo Viet Nghe Tinh at this spot. And on that street, near the bridge, there's another entrance to the zoo, which isn't the main entrance, I think. Not sure.

You shouldn't have any problem if you tell immigration that it's for personal or business purposes. You only run into problems if the laptop is meant for a gift. Anyhow, worse case scenario is to give immigration $10 and you are off on your way.

In Octobre I will travel to Saigon and considering of carrying a laptop with me.

Did anyone of you have experienced any problems at the airport, especially when you want to leave the country?

Or do you have to declare your laptop when entering the country?

I'm grateful for any advice.
