Then, she said something that stopped me in my tracks. SHE will pay ME $20000 if I marry her. Whats going on here? Apart from being illegal (de-frauding the government in some way) I have never heard of this arrangement taking place. Usually its the guy fighting through the red tape and costs to secure the girl a visa......isn't it?

Usually visa students are allowed to work up to 20 hrs per week, and there are generally no restrictions on the type of job or actual income. as long as it is reported to the tax man.

Marriages for money are probably not that rare, they just never get much publicity. There is nothing illegal in the marriage, it just becomes a bit hairy when she applies for a permanent residence visa, which is presumably what she is after and what she is paying you for.

I Think the current rules are (subject to Govt changes from time to time, check out the Immigration Dept web site for up to date policies):

1. You must be in a "genuine relationship", not necessarily married or even living together, for at least two years (with evidence to support it), before applying, then
2. there is usually another two year "bridging visa" period before it becomes permanent. This will also be subject to evidence of an ongoing "marriage" (you can usually get away with it in a de facto relationship during this time).

So you will have to put up with her (or v/v) for 4 years to complete your part of the "bargain". You might be "defrauding" the Government with this arrangement, but a lot of marriages end within 4 years these days, so they are unlikely to come after you unless you were doing this on a regular basis.

I have not touched on the "personal emotion" aspects, I see some of the Thailand guys have covered this.

Perhaps you could marry her, collect the $20K, and do a runner. Twelve months later you can divorce her.

I've came upon an interesting scenario and would like some feedback and thoughts on the issue.

Yes, I agree with Buttman it is hard to find cute young aussie chicks in Melbourne. Most of the aussie WL I have seen are older.
Daily Planet is relatively expensive but it is very close to where you are staying so it would be a good start. I went to top of the town in the city once and the aussie chick was cute but the service was so crap that I never went back.

There are a heap of up market brothels in the City (Boardroom, Gotham City etc) and I'm sure they would have more local talent.

Also there is a lot of Escort Agencies that advertise in the local Yellow Pages directory so that could be a good source if you want takeaway.

Definitely Pattaya. I've been there more than a couple of times and simply loves the place. The number of WGs is amazing, great selection and cheapest prices in the LOS.

Also beach and many entertainment options, both in the Walking Street area and elsewhere.

Soi 6 is a good daytime option. Mostly ST but some can be BF'd for a LT.

Re beach and swimming pool. Be careful not to swim there, water is polluted and dangerous! There is an island with a nice beach nearby, but you need to take a 1 hr ferry to get there.

Jomtien (next to Pattaya) is a nicer and slightly quieter beach. The father away from Pattaya the better the beach is. Great seafood places at the far end as well.

Beware of. Everything. Girls not using condoms, ladyboys (unless you want to try something new more than a HJ.), surveys in the street that will include questions about where you stay etc. , people that will try to rip you off, simply be careful in general.

Leave your money in your in-room safe and make sure nobody has got access to it. Don't carry more then you are willing to lose.

Having said that, don't be too paranoid and enjoy your stay. Most Thais are warm, friendly and welcoming people. It's just that some ignorant tourists have done very stupid things that have insulted their culture and whatever is sacred to them (eg, the King and the Buddha! ).

There is a forum managed by some of Pattaya expats with some very friendly advice, including dangers, culture, medical advice and many aspects of life in /visit to Pattaya. It's called Pattaya-adicts.com. I strongly recommend that anyone who goes to the LOS would at least read the cultural aspects.

Some things would seem weird, like. Blokes walking with bare shoulders, stepping on a note with the photo of the King on it; but after all. This is their country and it's just annoying to see how many farangs think that if they spend money there they can show disrespect to their culture.

To repeat a point already made,

Make sure you don't drknk to much, it is cheap and easy to get very drunk, that is when you are at the greatest risk of doing something that will ruin your life.

Also take your own condoms from Aus, they are of a higher standard than the ones in thailand and some of the SW do not carry them as they think it is the clients responsibility, well that and they are dirt poor.

i advice pattaya - maybe soy 6 where you just can walk asside and the girls sit outside so you dont have to pay ladiesdrinks to talk with them over your ideas. cheapest option asside of going to beer bars later at the evening where plenty of ladies who sit arround are working and the barfine is lower but the q of the girls too.(try corner mainstreet with beach promenade)

and if you want to go to pattaya - and you stay a longer period, then i would always go first to cambodia. thats because i am older (50 yrs) and thay ask more money to older people (because that old man need it hard and cant get is..) - are in general not so pretty (look and sound like siamese cats) and older (minum age is 21 but most are 26-30). while in cambodia girls are younger (minimum is 18 most are 20-21) nice looking and more shy and glad to meet a(ny) foreighner to marry because it is a poor country like philippines. disadvantage is they cannot speak englisch, there is almost no public transport(only between cities - in the cities you need to hussle a lot with private motorbikes who will ask 4x so much because we are white) and that girl will "take care of you" (like in the philippines) when you hire them for more times (feels like you are married you'l know - try to keep you for herselfe , try to temper your alcohol consumption) - while thay just to a good job for the money and dont care so much for the rest. thats thay because they see so many tourists and just look to the fast money - we spoiled them just paying what they ask and giving big tips. please dont do that in other countries - watch what they earn for a month normal working and dont be so foolisch to pay that for one or 2 night(s) work.
