Sydney is a beautiful city, there are many great venue's for just going out, but quite honestly for mongering I'd book a overnite stay in Asia before arrival and plan another day on the return.

I am, actually. But I have to be in Sydney for business anyhow.

Personally I like staying in the CBD as it's convenient for everything esp if you don't have a car. The Mercure hotel (it's an Accor Hotels property, www.accorhotel.com) down by Central station gets good reviews and is reasonable. At Central, you're near everything more or less by train or bus and can take train straight to Chatswood. I recently visited a few Chinese massage/FS type places, both in the city, and local suburban areas.

As usual, there seems to be a steady supply of "new" girls pretty much off the boat from PRC and HK. This is keeping prices fairly low.
