    Such a simple answer

That I am surprised you asked the question!

Simple equation; Dubai is "filthy rich" with money from oil hence there is the mentality that, because money "flows like water" or, in this case, oil, from beneath the ground = "pussy" takes on a new value(usually 10X plus, plus, plus what you could session for in the SPs native country!).

To answer your question, with this as a base to work from, does it now make sense of why your "example" SP is asking such an unbeliveable amount for her services?

As for me, just thinking what I would be paying for a SP from sub-Sahara African country, China or the Philippines(to name a few) and that the same SP, in her native country would cost, at the very, very least, 1/10th the price would, indeed, stifle my passion in its entirety!

Cybertron, if you want a real chuckle, go back through the Dubai Photo Gallery thread(admittedly, the faces of the SPs are usually hidden) and look at some of the photos of the "treasures" some of the more "hardcore" and frequent Dubai posters bragged about sessioning with and, especially, candidly admitting what they paid! IMO, REALLY PATHETIC!

It could "be just me" but, IMO, some of these "treasures" look pretty "over the hill"(I. E old and/or all "stretch marked" out) and/or suffer from an over-abundance of mileage! IMO, the only reason they get any customers at all is either because of a? Relative shortage of SPs in Dubai(because of "tight" UAE visa laws) or the effects on mongers' judgement as a result of the dessert heat!

Sorry if I sound harsh but that is my "from the heart" opinion!

She does look good. But am not too sure if she'll play the corpse in bed. That'd definitely be shame for $1600!

    The Price of Pleasure

Why in God's green earth, should many SPs make much more and, usually, much much more than other people who are hard-working, experienced, well-educated, professionals, craftsman, entrepreneurs, etc! Simple answer; because men will pay it, that's why and for no other reason!
I won't argue that it is a simple market economy, because it is a very complicated market economy - supply is limited by legal restrictions, social mores and potentially prohibitive penalities while demand is complicated by lust, fear and drunkeness.

Heroin isn't expensive because it costs a lot to produce.
It's expensive because of severe constraints in the marketplace.

"for the SP costs nothing more than her time and a minimal level of physical activity"
So does any kind of professional consulting. But people are always trying to get services for free. If you are a lawyer selling your skills by the hour, wouldn't it [CodeWord140] you off if some tried to get free legal advice from you by buying you lunch? Hey, you needed to take time off to eat anyway, and the lunch was very pleasurable, better than you would have brought from home, so why should someone pay $300 for your time as well?

I did some consulting, and I often had the situation where after I explained what I could do for them, I often got the attitude back, "why should I pay you to do that when we can do that ourselves, cheaper." Sure you can, but not better, and certainly not cheaper - having staff spend days to do stuff I would produce in hours, and quite possibly you will not get around to doing it at all - or you would have done it already.

Same thing with your SP. Hopefully she is good at what she does. Better than your girlfriend or fat girl in the bar that you can get for free. So she demands a price for it - not always a rational price, but then that may be due to those market complications I mentioned earlier.

Want to see a good market economy for sex? Try a FKK in Germany.
Except it has a regulated price structure, but otherwise a business operating without fear and external pressures (like legal and public consequences).

"costs nothing more than her time and a minimal level of physical activity and, quite possibly, may give her pleasure as well!"

I hate to break it to you kid, but those cries of delight may not be fully authentic.
It might, just might be that sucking cocks of strange guys might not be her first choice of how to spend her evening.
Maybe she would rather be watching TV, or out with her girlfriends or screwing her own boyfriend.

"I have NEVER been paid, especially well-paid, to have pleasure and neither has anyone I have ever known!"
Maybe you like eating your girlfriend's pussy? Is that pleasurable for you?
OK, but what about the fat, ugly girl at the bar?
Or the aging cougar with a hairy thatch and raspy thighs, even after shaving?
Not so much? Wouldn't do it if they paid you? I thought not.
Same for the working girl. You want a bargain based on being a nice guy, or handsome, or a great lover, you are going to have to stick to amateurs or semi-pros who work in the gray zone between fun and duty.
Pros are, in a word, professional workers, selling their sexual services for cash.
They ask what the market will bear, extract premiums when they can, and discount when they must. But don't expect any favours.

So what would you think of places like Ecuador (where they actually use the USD as their official currency)?

One small plus is that you don't get stuck paying all those nasty currency exchange fees. But the gals charge you in USDs so I'm not so sure one is getting such a good deal.

How do you think the value compares in Equador to its neighbors such as Colombia or Peru? Do you think the difference in value is due to exchange rates or other factors?

    Hi LexB,

Thanks for the link and the comments. I guess many folks would consider us to be cheapskates. Okay... I've been called worse.

The fact is I make very good money. I spent years studying hard (PhD) and years after that working hard, so I think I deserve the money I earn. Also, having worked so long and hard (and sacrificed so much) to earn that money, I don't want to be frivolous about how I spend it. I want to find good value.

One way to find good value is to seek a favorable exchange rate. When I was in Brazil some years ago I was getting about 3 Reals for each USD. The going rate for a street girl ranged from 50-100 Reals. So I was able to enjoy a brief session with an attractive young woman for only $20 (assuming a 60 Real cost for the session). Today the exchange rate is far less favorable at about 1.8 Reals for each USD while a comparable session is likely to cost 80 Reals. Thus, to me, the price has effectively doubled since this session will cost over $40. But the young woman still gets 80 Reals, which probably buys just about the same amount of stuff as 60 Reals did a few years ago.

Now some guys might go to Brazil and pay this same girl 300-400 Reals. They argue that the gal is so poor and they can easily afford this, why not help her out? Its similar with friends I have here in the USA who tip a minimum of 20% everywhere they go. They argue that the poor bartender or waitress earns so little money and they earn so much more, why not help them out? Well, part of me wants to applaud their largesse... I hope they are equally generous toward worthy charities.

But the fact is that those bartenders and waitresses didn't spend years with their noses stuck in a book as I did. I would frequently study hard all weekend while not having enough free cash to buy a cup of coffee. I paid my dues and earned my higher salary. That doesn't mean I'm heartless, its just that I think the bartender, the waitress, and the street prostitute should *not* earn as much as I do... while I'm at it, I don't think a basketball player should earn as much as I do either. [Of course, there are bartenders, waitresses, prostitutes and basketball players who *do* earn far more than I do... its just the way of the world.]

But what about the typical circumstances? Well, I tip what I think is a reasonable amount. A waitress who brought me a meal gets 15% of the cost of the meal (before state sales taxes are added) if she provided good service. The bartender who was inattentive or merely brought me a glass of beer gets 10%. The Brazilean street gal who gave me a very pleasant and memorable session for 60 Reals got 5 USDs as her tip... worth about 25% at the time... and I went back and found her the next night for a second session at the same price & tip. I could afford to give her 300 Reals for each session, and I'm sure she'd be delighted to get it... but I'd never pay her that much. If that makes me a cheapskate... then I guess I'm a cheapskate. But I think of myself as a guy who is willing to pay a fair price (and not more).

    Easy answer, Yankee 617!

[Quote=Yankee 617][Where can a monger go and find that the USD still
commands a little strength?/Quote]-Go to this web page: http://www.oanda.com/

-Click on "FX History" on the left side of the page under("Currency Tools")

-Use the drop down menus to choose the two currencies you wish to see the conversion history on and set the date parameters for, no more than, 500 days prior to the date you are searching on(about 16 months +/-, the "from") and the date you are seaching on(the "to").

-When the report prints on the screen pay special attention to the high and low values of the conversion at the end of the report and how they compare with the current value. This will tell you how your "currency of choice" is doing compared to what it has done in the past.

-Read the forum on various mongering destinations that might interest you and "plug in" the USD on each and answer your own question!

NOTE-In my experience, since you spoke of the USD, and it is one of the "higher value" currencies, it is easier fo me to understand the results if the higher value of the two currencies is selected in the first drop-down menu.

Yankee 617, I'm happy I found someone who is, like myself, "price conscious" as it gets pretty lonely in the ISG! Since, unlike many mongers who, IMO, when it comes to matters of paying for sexual activities feel the "price is no object".

    I do, however!

In past reports in various Threads, I've "stumped" countless times about "holding the line" and "just saying no" to, IMO, outlandish and insulting requests for exhorbitant prices for sexual activities. It has been and is my opinion that sexual activity, generally, for the SP costs nothing more than her time and a minimal level of physical activity and, quite possibly, may give her pleasure as well!

For this opinion, I have been made fun of and told to "mind my own business" so I have given up!

I can't speak for anyone except myself and people(male) I have known in my lifetime but I have NEVER been paid, especially well-paid, to have pleasure and neither has anyone I have ever known!

Why in God's green earth, should many SPs make much more and, usually, much much more than other people who are hard-working, experienced, well-educated, professionals, craftsman, entrepreneurs, etc! Simple answer; because men will pay it, that's why and for no other reason!

There is now, and I guess there always will be, an "artificial" value on the worth of sex and, far be it from me, to try to put the "spin" of logic and reason on a purely emotional issue!

    Currency Exchange Rates

I feel that this forum on "Prices" should largely be about
tracking currency exchange rates. Since my money is in
U.S. Dollars, I'm interested in comparing how the USD
is faring against various other currencies.

For most of the world, the USD is terribly low/weak and
its prospects for gaining strength anytime in the next
few years seem to be almost non-existent. One example
is the Euro... I recall when one could buy 1 Euro for only
$0.95, now it costs $1.47. Another example is the Brazilean
Real... whereas my first encounter with Brazil (over a decade
ago) found 1 Dollar buying only 1 Real, I later traveled to Brazil
over a period of years in which I found 1 Dollar buying between
2.5 and 3.5 Reals. Alas, now it only buys about 1.8 Reals and
the Brazilean economy is doing so well that it may be a very
long time before I can return to this fabulous country.

This weakness in the USD has restricted my travel options.
In late 2006 I traveled to China & Philippines since they
still offered fairly decent exchange rates. Later this year
I'm thinking about travel to Colombia, but I hesitate in large
part because a Dollar only buys ~2000 Pesos now (whereas
it bought 2600 Pesos as recently as this past summer).

So where is the Dollar strong (or, at least, not too weak)?
It looks like the Dollar hasn't lost much ground against
the Philippine Peso and its only lost a modest amount
against the Chinese Yuan. But is that all there is?

Where can a monger go and find that the USD still
    commands a little strength?

Brothels cut prices to beat the recession

German prostitutes are offering discounts, loyalty cards and 'extras'

    By Erik Kirschbaum in Berlin
    Sunday, 26 April 2009

It has not taken long for the global financial crisis to affect the world's oldest profession in Germany.

In one of the few countries where prostitution is legal, the industry has responded with an economic stimulus package of its own: modern marketing tools, rebates, discounts and gimmicks to boost falling demand.

Some brothels have cut prices or added free promotions, while others have introduced all-inclusive flat-rate fees. Free shuttle buses, discounts for seniors and taxi drivers, as well as "day passes" are among marketing strategies designed to keep business going.

"Times are tough for us too," said Karin Ahrens, who manages the Yes, Sir brothel in Hanover. Revenue had dropped by 30 per cent at her establishment, she said, while turnover had fallen by as much as 50 per cent at other clubs. "We're definitely feeling the crisis. Clients are being tight with their money. They're afraid. You can't charge for the extras any more and there is pressure to cut prices."

Germany has about 400,000 professional prostitutes. In 2002, legislation allowed prostitutes to advertise and enter into formal labour contracts. It opened the way for them to get health insurance, previously refused if they listed their true profession.

Annual revenues are about £12.3bn, according to an estimate by the Verdi services union. Taxes on prostitution are an important source of income for some cities. Prostitution is also legal and regulated in the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, in some parts of Australia, and the US state of Nevada.

Berlin's Pussy Club has attracted media attention with its headline-grabbing "flat rate" – a €70 admission charge for unlimited food, drink and sex between 10am and 4pm. "You've got to come up with creative solutions these days," said club manager Stefan, who requested his surname not be published. "We're feeling the economic crisis, too, even though business has, fortunately, been more or less OK for us so far." Stefan, who runs other establishments in Heidelberg and Wuppertal besides the Berlin club, said the flat rate had helped to keep the 30 women working in each location fully employed. Other novel ideas include loyalty cards, group sex parties, and rebates for golf players. Hamburg's GeizHaus is especially proud of its discount €38.50 price.

Anke Christiansen, manager of the GeizHaus, said the effects of the economic crisis were clear. "The regular customers who used to come by two or three times a week are only coming by once or twice a week now." A client, who gave his name as Pascal, said: "Naturally, we're all feeling the effects of the crisis." He added that he could no longer afford his usual two or three visits a week. Günter Krull, manager of the FKK-Villa in Hanover, agreed: "The girls are complaining, too, because business is bad and I worry that it's all going to get even worse."

Ecki Krumeich, the manager of the upmarket Artemis Club in Berlin, said he had resisted pressure to cut prices, although senior citizens and taxi drivers already get a 50 per cent discount on Sundays and Mondays. "Our philosophy is we provide an important service and even in a recession there are some things people won't do without," said Mr Krumeich. "Other downmarket places might cut prices but we decided we won't do that."

Stephanie Klee, a prostitute in Berlin and former leader of the German association of sex workers, said that even if some luxury brothels were weathering the storm, many more were struggling. "If the consumer electronics shop comes out with rebates and special promotions, why shouldn't we try the same thing?" she said. While she might have had five or six clients per day a year ago, she added, that had fallen to one or even none.

Some suggested that more women were turning to prostitution to make ends meet. "More and more women are moonlighting on the weekends," said Ms Ahrens. "They're not able to get by with their main jobs and are in pretty dire straits."

    Spain starts the trend

Here we go- the first symptoms- in Spain.

    Less Demand and increased supply

    Spanish prostitutes hit by recession
    Associated Press
    Monday, October 13, 2008, (Valencia)
The financial crisis sweeping the globe is making itself felt everywhere, apparently leaving no country, institution or profession untouched.

Even the so-called "oldest profession", prostitution, is feeling the pinch, at least that is the case in Spain where trade is reportedly down by between 30 and 40 per cent in many places.

Although official figures are hard to come by, it is estimated that 300,000 women work as prostitutes in Spain.

In a Spanish Parliament study it was suggested that 6,000 women worked the streets whilst another estimated 96,000 work in brothels that front as night clubs.

According to figures from Spain's National Association of Brothel Owners, Spaniards spend around 50 million euros a day on prostitutes.

But 2008, according to ANELA, has seen a reduction of 30 percent to 40 percent in the number of clients using their clubs.

The financial woes hitting the country, they believe, means men are visiting prostitutes less.

The Romani Club, 20 kilometres outside Valencia, is one of the region's biggest and most famous brothels, and one which has seen a fall in trade.

It has over 20 rooms, a bar, a nightclub and a shop, all done out in glitzy style.

The facilities also boast a gym, a hairdresser and a canteen for its women,
most of whom live at the club.

The cost per hour to hire one of Romani's luxurious suites is upwards of 200 euros (266 US dollars).

Like most brothels in Spain, the Romani hires out the rooms to the prostitute, who then charge their own fee to the client, but makes its money on entrance fees, food and drink.

For the services offered by the girls in its rooms the club does not get involved or take a cut.

Laura (not her real name) works at another Valencia brothel, Club Majestic, which is run by women.

She used to be a prostitute but now works at Majestic as a receptionist.

Laura takes issue with ANELA's findings, and has not noticed a downturn in trade at Club Majestic.

"Hey, men are men!" she said. "Men are different and, you know, when they feel like it? Also, I don't know why but people always have money for this. As I always say, when it comes to vice, we always find the money!"

One change she has noticed though is that straitened economic circumstances in Spain has meant that more native Spanish women are turning to prostitution to top up their incomes, reversing the trend for mainly foreign women from poorer countries to be involved in the trade.

With increased prosperity, many Spanish women were leaving the profession, their places taken by women from eastern Europe and elsewhere.

"Spanish women are starting to show up again," Laura said.

"Spanish women on the game had practically stopped and now they seem to be going back to it, especially those who had left and now they want to go back to it because, of course, mortgages and other expenses are still the same. If incomes are not the same that's when women who already know this choose to get into it again."

Jose Luis Roberto works as a lawyer for ANELA, Spain's National Association of Brothel Owners, who reported the decrease in trade in 2008 at the brothels of its members.

He was concerned about the effect that was having on the women's incomes.

"When a brothel whose earnings come from room rentals and drinks has a 30 percent or 40 percent decrease in income, it means that the number of customers has also decreased 30 percent or 40 percent," Roberto said.

"That means that demand for the services that the girls offer has also decreased by a similar proportion. So we can say that the women are being affected by the crisis to the tune of 30 percent or 40 percent of their incomes."

Like Laura, Roberto has seen a rise in the number of women turning to prostitution because it offers them a good income.

"Prostitution is not a nice job to do, but women are in most cases free to decide if they want to do it, and they do it because it gives them a good level of income," he said.

"So since the crisis begun, many women who were not prostitutes before are now working as prostitutes."

    Future Prices

    Just my 2 bit.
Felt that i should give my opinion. Mongering prices should be on their way down with all economies going downhill. Depression, recessions and low/negative growths should start having their effects.
Would expect more P4P offerings and less customers with less money in the wallets in the fray.
Law of supply , demand and economic conditions, varying from country to country will determine price levels.
