My understanding is that US Customs is legally permitted to seize your laptop (or other electronic device) and take their time going through it before returning it to you... maybe weeks or months later. They can (and occasionally do) do this with virtually no justification; for example, it may be sufficient in their mind that you are a male returning from some well-known mongering destination like Bangkok.

Somewhere on ISG in the last few months, I posted a link to a news article on this topic as warning to my brothers here. I may take a laptop on my travels, but I never take photos.

I've heard of customs taking a look at the pictures on people's digital cameras, but has anyone ever had or heard of someone having customs go through their laptop or portable hard drive? I'd imagine its not really worth their time but just trying to be careful. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Anybody have flight experience with Spirit Airlines? I have been receiving flight offers from them that very inexpensive and tempting. I tend to believe that anything too good to be true is just that - too good to be true. I have done a little research and found a few complaints about them, but not lots of information is available. I thought some of you might have opinions.
Have any of you used them for flights to Latin America destinations?

I have about 6 weeks and enough Star Alliance miles for a Business-class ticket. Unlike the lucky Europeans, 6 weeks approaches once-in-a-lifetime trip for me.
