When you catch a taxi from Oase and some other places, you need to know where you are going, as taxis try to rip you off by taking a very long route. I have GPS and Google Maps on my phone so I can tell him every turn to take. Otherwise they try to circumnavigate the world on the way to your destination sometimes.
When you ask to go to Friedrichsdorf station, you will often hear the story that there has been an accident and the trains are not running. 99% of the time this will be total bullshit.

Posts: 394Sorry, I don't understand. What you describe is that the train stops at Bad Homburg to allow passengers to get on / off before the train continues to Friedrichsdorf.

The time table shows an arrival time at Bad Homburg at 17. 45 and shows also the departure time of 17. 45.
There are other entrys in the table like this. This means at these times the train does not stop at Bad Homburg but continues to stop at Friedrichsdorf.

S5 goes every 15 mins except after 7PM and weekends when it drops back to every 30 mins. The trains that do not stop at Friedrichsdorf normally have a connecting train on another platform at Bad Homburg (if you want to save 4 Euros). Or save even more by getting off at Seulberg (after bad Homburg) and walking from there to Oase (about 3km across the fields).
Last 2 return trains from Friedrichsdorf are 23:08 and 0:08 (until early morning startup after 4AM). If running late, catch the train at Seulberg instead about 3 mins later.
If miss the last train at 0:08, there is a later U-Bahn train from Ober-Eschbach (closer to Oase than Bad Homburg). After that, faced with night buses or taxi.
On weekend if you just miss an S5 going to Oase, could consider catching a train to Bad Vilbel and taxi from there (if you are in a hurry). Its going to cost a little bit more.
Could also catch U-Bahn to Ober-Eschbach but no taxis likely there so would have to phone for one.

Just as an aside on how mistakes can be made, in one of my trips last year, when I was not fully alert when I got off the S9 at Frankfurt, I spotted 'S5' on the electronic signboard as the next train coming. I forgot to cross over to the other side and jumped onto the S5 heading to Frankfurt South.
Upon arrival at Frankfurt South, the electronic signboard said that the next train arriving was the S3 to Darmstadt. As psychologically, my brain refused to admit to a mistake, I instantly decided to go to Sharks instead at Darmstadt.
There, surprise surprise, I was greeted by Heidi, one of my regulars who had disappeared from Oase. I spent a good afternoon with Heidi and my Sharks regular Daria, before heading back to the airport in the evening.
So a mistake might lead to a good day after all.

The other entry in the timetable refers to the S5 going the opposite direction to Frankfurt South. That is why it is important to cross to the other side of the track.
As mentioned in my earlier post, the S5 trains that do continue to Friedrichsdorf come at 30 minute intervals. For non first-timers who want to save on taxi fare by going all the way to Friedrichsdorf, you can take the train that ends at Bad Homburg and then change to a short local train that would normally be waiting there to connect to Friedrishdorf. But bear in mind that you will need to go to the underground passageway to a track that is 2 platforms away. And often there are 2 local trains waiting, one going West to Bad? Something or other, and the other goes to Burgolhausen. Catch the wrong one, and you will have lost a lot of time. These local trains are also sometimes very crowded with schoolchildren and bicycles.
By the way, the taxi fare from Friedrichsdorf to Oase is no longer €8. 5. It is €9. 70 because the bridge across the highway is closed due to construction and the taxi has to take a longer route. Hopefully the construction will not take too long, which would be the case if they are using Mauro's contractor.

A service timetable for the S5 can be found on this web site.
It would appear that not all trains stop at Bad Homburg, and not all trains continue to Friedrichsdorf.

If you happen to just miss the previous S5 on a Saturday or Sunday, you can really lose some serious time. Luckily, the digital signs on the platform show you exactly how much time you have to kill.
I would recommend that first timers pay especially close attention to number 2 above (that is, there is always a queue at the machines upstairs but no queue downstairs on the platform) and number 4 (the escalators to the S5 are easy to miss for first timers coming off of the S9 so that's a really good tip to only go up one level on the escalators and then *immediately* look to your left for the down escalators to the S5. If you're walking all around the station looking for the S5, you've gone too far. If this happens, just retrace your steps back to the S9).
Also if you are unlucky on the weekends, you can wait a good 20 minutes I think for the S9 to arrive at the airport.

Sorry, I made a calculation mistake in my earlier post due to my poor maths.
It should be maximum 75 minutes and minimum 60 minutes.

Posts: 7121Yes, the 30min is when you have a car or take a cab. A car with GPS will take you to Oase even if you've never been there.

I read that she's gone to Colosseum in Augsburg. She's not coming back? Anyone know why?
It was such a delight to see her sunbathing by the pool last summer. She seemed to like it at Oase, even though she probably could have done even better at Palace.

But you are right on the money with regard to public transport. It's 15 + 25 + 10, but with ticket machine trials and waiting time for the trains it can easily take 90 mnts, I agree.
S16[/QUOTE]Here is the route I was always take:
1. Take S9 and not the express trains. The express trains are erratic and sometimes late. What is worse, you then have to make your way from the main train section of the frankfurt hbf to the s bahn section.
2. At the s-bahn station at the airport, go to the machine at the platform itself and buy ticket to Bad Homburg. Return ticket gives savings. The machine at the platform has no queue. Machine at the station has queue that can take up to 10 minutes.
3. The s9 comes strictly at 15 minute intervals. The journey to frankfurt takes 15 minutes.
4. Upon arrival at frankfurt, do not go to the main station. Just climb up the steps 1 level, and go back down another escalator near it to the other side of the platform.
5. From the other side, catch S5 to Bad Homburg. Trains to Bad Homburg comes every 15 minutes. To Friedrichsdorf it is 30 mins. The gap between arrival of s9 and departure of s5 is about 5 minutes. So, that is why there is no time to waste in crossing the platform.
6. It is then 27 minutes to Bad Homburg, where there are always taxis available. At Friedrichsdorf, there are often no taxis in the morning, or on Sundays. Taxi takes 10 minutes to apace.
Maximum time is therefore 85 mins and minimum is 70 mins when you are lucky enough to catch the S9 immediately.

Thanks to Manny and Big O for some lighter news on this club. Can't wait to get back.
