Has anyone been to Tulum and had any luck with strip clubs / brothels. Read back quite a ways and hoping to find some action when I am there in Sept.

3 months ago there were 2 clubs on east and west sides of federal road on the south end of Tulum. Plus 1 more on the north end but south of the coba road on the west side of the federal road.

These are only open at night. I believe.

There are girls that work in tulum away from family in playa and Cancun, so there are usually some hotties, but keep in mind September is called "sept hambre" because it is "slow".

Let me know when you are there, maybe I can drive down and explore.

Thanks Grayshorter and DirtDog. I will make my way to Merida. Last time taxi took me to ugly chick place so he could get a cut. Prefer to avoid taxis if possible. The key is though I need something to be open during day because I have to get back to my ship. This is my shore excursion.

Any updates on the fun in Merida? Is Calle 58 between 70 and 73 the best option? Is it generally safe? Does Merida have a strip club scene, hopefully of the Tijuana variety? Would I be better off to drive to Playa del Carmen for a few days of fun than to hang out in Merida?

Merida is the same. The same calles are still hopping, the same clubs in Kanasin are there, and a taxi driver will take you to a casa de cita. Lots of girls walk the centro streets as well.

It's not Tijuana, but you're better off than you would be in Cancun or Playa, where you'll pay four times as much. And have some trouble finding it.

Merida is a sleepy-looking town, but it's sophisticated, and everyone knows their pleasures. You can find yours there too.

Ask a taxi driver. That's your best best. But you may have time to take a shuttle or cab to Merida for the real fun.

Some advice about finding streetwalkers in PDC. I was out late, just hanging and watching the scene as the big clubs closed in PDC (Cocobongo, Blue Parrot, etc.) and noticed a few things.

1. The action doesn't start until the clubs close. That's at about 3 to 4 am.

2. Lots of girls appear on Avenida 10, just a block from Cocabongo, right when the clubs close. Many of these girls are actually transsexuals, so keep your eyes open, whether you're hoping to meet them or avoid them.

3. Many female prostitutes station themselves in front of small hotels in the streets north of 5th avenue and along avenida 10. Just walk by and you'll probably be given the eye and propositioned. They often have their pimp or some muscle with them. That might be intimidating to you.

4. Lots of girls are out walking at night on Avenida 10 and Benito Juarez. My bet is that most (90%) aren't in the business, so please don't frighten them by pulling up and propositioning them.

I didn't partake. I was just watching the scene. Lots of bars have their own drug dealers out front, and it was interesting to watch that scene as well. Lots of people use the bathrooms (public?) upstairs and outside to "refresh" themselves. Lots of the street girls do this too. Just so you know whom you're dealing with.

My advice is to find a spot on 10th north of Cocabongo, buy some cheap beers (cheaper than on 5th, for sure) and watch the scene.

But make no mistake the place is jumping inside; it seems to calm the complaining neighbours, the bar had to leave a large expanse of place at the front empty and shuttered with double walls. After going through what seems like a long minute of going through hallway, one ends in a very lively and quite large seating area, about the size of a dance hall or high school gymnasium with a good number (about seven to eight ladies) of bar dancing girls prancing around to get your attention.

I sat a bit in the second row, not close to the dancing scene, to be able to size the number and quality of the ladies. They tend to be in their early twenties up to mid-thirties.

I was approached within 3 minutes by a white skin gordita (real chubby) and waved her away as gorditas are not my cup of tea.

Ten minutes later, a taut body early twenties golden skin maya girl approached me and proceeded to french kiss me for a good five minutes; she had a very ebullient personality, full of life and joy. I had to control me not to lay out all my money dough.

Enquiring, she told me it would cost me 200 mexican pesos to go with her in the private room to play with her intimately; I protested lack of money as the assigned length of time would not go over 15 minutes or 3 songs.

Arrecifes is a good value, especially if you hit the place early evening (about 7 or 8 in the evening).

I checked another bar, again in Chetumal, called Corona but it had only 3 dancing girls and the place was rather small, the size of two good size high school classrooms.

I also checked another girls bar, called El Botanero; about the same size as Corona but with better quality furniture than Corona.

Where are these places located? All within the city of Chetumal, all known to young taxi drivers who will take you there for less than 2 dollars USA each fare or can charge you 150 pesos for one hour (about 12 dollars USA) to drive you around.

You can always go to La Selva. Laid back with very hot girls.

But if you're offered the VIP room, though, watch out. The waiter will charge you about 150 dollars for an hour with a girl, sex included (and you can ask him to confirm this over and over, and he will) , but the girl will then try to charge you again. If you're a gringo, they'll try to confuse and clip you.

Try answering an ad, or get a girl's private email / phone at the club instead. It's cost you about 15 bucks to buy a girl a drink, so your initial investment in the info will be minimal.

I've done a big of research, and I've concluded that I let my own emotions rip me off. The girl at Bar La Selva (calls herself "Ambar". I know her real name, but I'm not going to mark her on the internet forever) wasn't right to ask for another 1500 pesos when we were done in the VIP room, for a total cost (with waiter tip) of 3500 pesos.

I'm going to take this up with management, who should care about their reputation online.

This isn't a drug cartel club (as are most of the clubs on the 307 in Playa) , so they actually have a reputation to protect.
