You were looking for some information on Peru and I suggested to you that you contact Lima Busy or Rosita for the information you were requesting. I only suggested those two because they live there and based on there posts, they have first hand knowledge of what is going on in all facets of life in the Lima area.

I do not know either one of them other than the fact I know they live there from there posts. I am interested in why you think they are rip offs?. Please enlighten everyone that reads your thread about this as it could be very beneficial.

I have never met Lima Busy or Rosita, and only know them from the posts they have made here on the ISG, but it seems that they have a great knowledge of what is going on in Peru since they live there and have business interests there, so I am confused as to why you asked me that question.

Well Nibu, I took a trip with DanDaMan to the middle of nowhere in the amazon jungle. I prefer not to go into detail.

I was in Iquitos three times at the end of last year and unfortunately, DanDaMan´s popularity seems to have decreased for some reason. There is a letter about him by someone who he was supposed to have ripped off posted on the wall of the Yellow Rose restaurant and rumour has it that the U.S. embassy is interested in knowing his whereabouts. Who knows? When you get to Peru maybe you can go looking for him. He is supposed to still be somewhere in Iquitos and I imagine is still reading the forum.

I never met this guy. I thought about meeting up with him in Iquitos but I did not like the way he was slandering the Yellow Rose of Texas. The people in the Gringo Bar next to it were doing the same thing. Anyhow, I just don´t like that kind of behavior so I never contacted him. I was fascinated, however, about his description of native Metis women deep in the jungle.

I know a place like that too, toward the Ecuador border, where the chief of this particular Indian village lets you choose a woman to sleep with for the night. I passed pretty close to the settlement, but did not want to get off by my lonesome at that spot along the Rio Napo.
On the Ecuador side, there was this ex Peruvian Marine who offered to take me there in his boat ( really small boat for this kind of journey) but what put me off was that he wanted $600 for the journey and for hunting for a week, living off the land. He supposedly knows the chief of the Indian village. I tried bargaining with him, but he would not come down with the price. I thought $200 was a generous offer. Other thing is you are out there in the middle of nowhere with someone you don´t know. His woman was there along for the ride, but I much rather walking into an Indian village alone than with someone I don´t know if I can trust. That´s an option Nibu, if you don´t mind the 4 day boat ride from Iquitos up the Rio Napo.
Lots of beautiful cholitas along the Rio Napo, but I am not familiar with the negotiating. However, with a partner, like you man, I might just jump the boat at some of these places and wait for the next boat two weeks later to get back to Iquitos. There is this really gorgeous girl named Añyuhe, that I almost jumped the boat for. Maybe she´s still single...but there are many like her. I don´t know how easy it is to score with them on a casual basis, but many are available but I sense that people are traditional there, so if you don´t want your face pealed like an orange, it is a good idea to talk with her relatives first, then proceed. I would definitely ask about the customs. What you do, do is ask the headman of the settlement, who is like the patriarch about these things. Even for things like, can I pick fruits from this tree?
I know some people from the boat didn´t bother with this, but courtesies like this made a big impression on people I noticed. It´s no wild partying there, but it could be one hell of a trip. Few speak Spanish even, the kids translate for them, since they learn Spanish in school but the elders (the one you ask about the women) speak Quechua. I thought that funny, I thought cholas were only to be found in the mountains, but surprise, they live all along the Rio Napo as well. By the way, Añyuhe is a slender, very fast creature the size of a rabbit, but belongs to the rodent family. Its meat is delicious.

Another question, can you get a permit to carry a sidearm in Peru in the jungle areas? Shotguns are easier to get permits for, and that´s what they use for hunting. A pistola would be a purely self-defense weapon when the candles go out at night...

I know people will swear by how nice the people are in Iquitos, and it is true, it is very safe there. But once you are really out there in the middle of nowhere, the game changes, and you know it.
