I tried Daisy Dream Massage Club soi 33 2 weeks ago. I was also interested in their decoration and rooms on their website.

Not sure you're barking up the right tree, the influx of other mongers only has marginal influence.

The main issue is fewer girls available, mostly due to demographics, and also rising incomes. Thailand had 5. 6 children per woman in 1970 (that cohort was 30 back in 2000), 3. 4 in 1980 (still women around in 2010), and just 1. 6 in 2000 (that's why we're seeing plenty of 40-50 year old hookers still on the game). On the income side, back in the early 2000's, many office girls (let alone lower income) could hardly make ends meet, and thus went to Thermae occasionally. These days, a fresh university graduate can hit 20 k baht right away, and goes up from there, no need to hook part-time.

The supply of working girls has dried up considerably, that's why we're seeing are mostly dregs for higher prices. Hottest girls are sure not working in the nightlife industry anymore, and neither are many average looking ones (I mean average as in middle-of-the-pack looks for 20-40 age group, not a euphemism for "ugly"). The demand has changed perhaps too, but if supply were as before, we'd surely be seeing many pretty girls and part-time girls around despite increased demand, although at a higher price point.

I'd say both you and Turgid are correct. I do agree with you; economic and demographic factors are the main issues, however the influx of Asian punters who are less demanding performance wise and punters who tend to have less experience overall with women effects things as well. Many times while out, especially in Pattaya, you see groups of guys who act like they are at a middle school dance, don't really know how to behave in a club, and seem like they have never even kissed a girl. Naive is not a strong enough word. For most of the old guard punters and regulars, Thailand was not our first rodeo. Far from it. We were well versed before we came here.

I used to love "the hunt. " It was fun and always paid off. The sheer number of p4 p gals in and around sukhumvit 15-20 years ago was staggering. You literally could not go 20 mtrs without hearing "go with you." When the oilies took off 11 years ago, each PSE shop had at least 3 or 4 lookers who performed. It was a hunt, but a hunt on the sense that you were trying to pick the best out of a pretty good BUNCH. I was not aware that Oilies started to take off 11 years ago. Simply because that is when I first tried Tulip and other Oilies not much earlier. In my early times I was mainly a Soapies customer, but they declined badly over the years, for levels of fun and service.

In early 2000's I was coming back to the bar scene after a few years absent, and was difficult because I did not have much clue what the prices should be. The steep rise had already happened some time earlier I think, given that bargirl LT in 1991 was 400 to 500 Baht (plus BF maybe 160 Baht roughly). Right now, prices seem to have doubled again, since early 2000's (or is it tripled? Doubling over say 15 years is not that ridiculous. 4. 7% compound interest. Maybe a little steep. If tripled that is too much.

Prices remained low in Oilies due to the continual drop in quality of the girls, and the continual increase in the competition, any other factors? The Bar scene never had that level of strong competition, and got flooded by the Japanese customers too.

Yeh I hate how bargirls can make reasonable to good money just by just dancing now, and obviously that has added a lot of pressure to selling drinks and drink prices. Even ugly girls seem to think they are worth 3 K for ST now, clearly not value for money. I probably can get a girl for 2. 5 K at Thermae with no BF, but I struggle to get a good one, so its false economy.
