Dude. Why do you keep referring back to US politics and why do you start posting stuff about all over the world. This is about Veneuzuela. If you haven't figured it out, Chavez is Pro-Farc, of course he wanted to be in the middle of the negotiations. He wants the Colombian govt to be run by FARC.

Next, what is so hard to understand regarding the hostage situation in Colombia? It's the US gov't's policy not to negotitate with terrorists. I think that your difficulty in grasping this is where your issues are flawed. Accept that there are guerillas in Colombia and the US govt does not negotiate for hostages. I admire that Uribe has taken a hard stand against negotiating as well. If you give in and release their terrorists in exchange for those kidnapped they will only kidnap more. The solution is find them and save them. There is no other solution. Sure, I feel for the families of those captured, but they took the risk by being in Colombia in the first place. If you don't like it, then don't go to a country where kidnapping chances are high. The release of kidnapped hostages should be of very little concern to Uribe. There are much more important issues for his country. Trade agreements, coca fields, extinguishing the FARC. He has been fighting them and fighting them for years and has done a great job in my opinion in making the country safer. I know your views differ, but accept that niether the US govt nor the Colombian govt will nor should negotitate for the hostages and you'll sleep better at night.

Obvioulsy, asking one of their own to negotiate for their release (ala Cahvez) is/was foolish. I would not be surprised if all the hostages are actually being held by the FARC in Venezuela as opposed to Colombia. Though that's just a guess, you have to wonder how all the sudden the Colombian forces came up with videos/letters etc. Sounds like the FARC wanted this to happen to me. My bet is the hostages are held in Venezuela. After all, if Colombian forces have been searching and searching for them for years wouldn't they have some solid leads on their whereabouts? At least some clues over the years?

Regardless, the issue isn't Colombia. It's Chavez and giving power for life to a dictator that is in bed with the FARC.

Say bro, finally something we can agree on. Only difference between what Putin has done and what Chavez is attempting is that Russia has had decades of experience with having global power and, for the most part is what Political Scientists would call a "responsible [or] rational actor".
