    Cost of living

I wonder, how much money do you need a month to live in Thailand ? 1. In Bangkok and 2. somewhere, not in a major city, but close to the sea?

What is the cost of living without the girls, just renting a house, ride a motorcycle and travel around a little bit in the neighbouring countries?

    Dentist

    LBM, Dinghy,

The dentist goes by the name of Dr. Apichai Kitsadayurat and his clinic is called APC Dental Clinic. It is where Dinghy said it is.
If I ever would recommend going to someone who sticks needles in you and then rips out parts, it would be him.

I don't think any medical facility in Thailand works harder to separate farang from their baht. I'd recommend Queen Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip.

Since we are talking about dental work. I'm still looking for a good dentist in Pattaya?

Although, there are many and I have been to several the last few years to check them out I haven't found one that I really like or trust to do more work than just cleaning. The one's that I have visited to clean do no more than that! There are no xrays, no preventive measures, and no examination to tell you of any potential problems in the future. Some have lousy techniques when it comes to cleaning so I'm relundant for them to do more work. Some are good but I can't understand enough of their English to make out what I really need. Some, the price is right but still I have questions concerning procedures like root canals or replacing fillings and crowns.

I have been to a few independents one's along with Pattaya Memorial, Bangkok/Pattaya and have come away with the same feeling. When it comes to explaining things in English the Dentist on Soi 5 has been on the top of my list but his cleaning technique was rough. I was jumping off the seat and there was very little to clean because I take pretty good care of my choppers. Like most of us old guys are gums are reseeding so our gums are sensitive. Nearly every Dentist I have tried, no more than 15minutes and I'm out the door. Including Bangkok/Pattaya which charge me 1300 baht to clean and just a hello and goodbye. Nice place, but I can get the same for 500 baht.

Being on a budget and I know you get what you pay for but I'm looking for the best bang for your buck! Concerning root canals and crowns I have been quoted 4,000 baht by a local Dentist that works at the Pattaya Memorial Hospital but has her own practice in the evening and Bangkok/Pattaya quoted me between 13,000/15,000.

    Anyone have any idea's?

    Thanks, LBM

Bumingrad Hospital off Sukhumvit, near Nana. My crown popped out on flight from HK to Bkk, went over to outpatient dental clinic and they did a great job cleaning, sealing it back on - under B1000.

I think it depends on how much time you have. Almost all hotels will have a tour desk or brochures with prices. I would go this route for convenience.

There are travel agencies around town, may be near your hotel, selling tours also.

If you have more time, look at bangkok.com for the tour name, then searching the internet and book with the tour operators directly can save money.

In any case, I would suggest you choose and book when you get here.

    What a Shame

I am residing in Ekamai and just woke up from Model's Night at Bed Supper Club and after hours at Gazebo and only now found out from CNN that Thais wanna depose their leader and storm the capital building.

Talk about being out of it.

congratulations on looking like that, and by the way it is opebo, not o****, but i don't think they'll ever be 'after' farangs. i just mean they'll make life more and more difficult for us, and make long-stay almost impossible.

Generally speaking we farangs fare much better under military or military-backed regimes. Democracy is what does us in - anything that reflects the will of the majority in a country where the common people dislike us and blame us for all ills can't be good.

    OTH,

In the short time that I have been here I feel your frustration but unlike you you have the choice of picking up and leaving more so that me. Regardless of my frustration I must learn to meet a balance since I have no plans ever to bring my wife or son to live in the U.S. even if there is political unrest in Thailand. Personally it could never get so bad politically ( even if it is a military state ) that I woud leave Thailand.

I can't disclosed the location for shelfish reasons but for me personally when I get to the point where I want to kill someone in Pattaya, I make a call for that 2 hours of great oil massage with a happy ending. Right now that's what keeping LBM from killing someone or having road rage! My recommendation is you need a break from all those hi-so people you been hanging around with. That would make anyone uptight! You might want to give Daddy07, a call in Pattaya to loosen yourself up.

    LBM
