    3 nights in Lamai

A few weeks ago I was able to spend a few nights in Lamai on my way back from a business trip in Taipei. My first time there, so here's the report, in more or less chronalogical order.

    - Access. No direct flights from Taipei, so had to go through BKK. About 10 minute walk from the international to domestic sides of the AP. Lots of flights to KS everyday so was able to easily move my scheduled evening flight up to early afternoon. Customs was automatic, in fact, didn't realize I had been processed until I looked at my ticket.

Taxi from the KS AP to Lamai was a matter of negotiation. One guy wanted to charge 1000B, but got it for 700. On the return, my hotel did it for 300.

    - Hotel. Seems most hotels are about 1,000, but I paid a bit more my first night, just out of ignorance. One night I stayed at a one room place about 10 mins. away by motorbike for 600, and it was actually pretty nice. Best to research beforehand.

    - Generic Viagra. 500B for pack of four at a Lamai pharmacy. Whoever it was that mentioned this before, thanks. Not as powerful as the real thing, but it helps out with jetlag/drinks.

    - Lamai, overall. Someone told me Lamai was laid-back compared to Chaweng. Not sure about that, but plenty of annoyingly loud bars, and no shortage of girls who want to get out of them. It's still a Sin City of impressive scale.

    - GFE vs. short times. I prefer the GFE, but in the end shopped around. Girl 1: Cute LBFM, but for long time just wanted to sleep. Appreciated the CIM, but then it was lights out. Apparently that was her plan to get a night's rest. Girl 2: A bit on the heavy side, but was fooled into thinking that meant she had an appetite-Wrong, it just meant she was lazy. Girl 3) A bit older than most, but she made up for it with enthusiasm. Definately a repeat.

    - Communication. I prefer a bit of foreplay prior to talking money, so the Thai girls lack of English skills was dissapointing. Many of these girls would stare at me blankly when I said something simple like "you are pretty." Communicating was at times like pulling teeth, a bit stressful. Filipinas definately have the upper hand when it comes to flirting.

    - Other. Definately recommend the fishing tour. Hotel set up a day on the water for 1,500, and the hotel restaurant prepared the catch for me, so saved on that night's cost for dinner. Totally cool.

Hope this helps anyone who might be thinking about Lamai.

    Lamai - Report

    Hi!

I was in Lamai in March 2007:

    Hotel:
Lamai Inn - easy to find, close to the scene but gets music from dicos therefore noisy. I stayed in an AC room. The room eas 1.000,- and really excellent. Great value for this money !!
They have fan bungalows for 500,- too,

GF: The hotel is 200% girl-friendly.

    Night-Scene:

There are girl bars all along the main road and in the side streets too - everything very easy to find.

There are 2 "market places" in the village with girl bars just side by side. 1 marketplace is just in the center by the main road with aprox, 15 little outdoor bars with roof. 2nd marketplace is just around the corner-easy to find.

I prefered the girl "marketplace" right in the center. Of course it is a touristplace. But they have a lot of nice girls there, it is clean and seems to be safe.

I went to the "marketplace", had a drinks in the different bars to spot the girls. I liked one of them, so I came back to this bar after having seen the rest.

I played those bar games with the girl I spotted. After some games I asked here if she would come to my room. We agreed quick: Barfine 300,- and 1.500.- for the girl. I did not negoiate, she told me the price and I accepted.

We went to my hotel and she was very nice. We had 1 round in the night and a second one in the morning. She left at 10:00 next morning.

Of course it was just business but I was surprised that she behaved so nice! I was the first time in Thailand, I just red the forum here before. Was a nice experience and really easygoing.

    BR and LOT of FUN

I was there like 6 weeks ago and on the main road in chaweng there is a "massage parlour* called the pink lady which sported some nice ladiez everytime I drove by. Never went in there but the quality looked fine.

I did however pick up a little part-timer really late after coming back from the q-bar. We went to this double openair place, can't recall the name but it was apperently the only one still open at this time. And its basically right besides the big lake, has 2 dancefloors. One has house music and the other one has hip-hop. Great times down there. And picked up a cute little spinner, probebly overpaid but she was worth it for overnight. Kicked her out early afternoon.

And went to breakfast. Where I caught foodpoisening. Ouchhh, some english breakfast at a pub, bacon and egss. What was I thinking. Loooll so I really only had 1 full days in samui where I caught this one great girl. Hopefully better luck next time.

Go to thai lady boxing Saturday night, starts 22-30, free admission, good time will be had for sure.

    Gus69,

Between Marina and Weekender what is your election? I'm looking for not noisy hotel but close to action (walking).

What's about nightlife close to this 2 hotels?.

I have read in this thread Chaweng has more action. How much is taxi fare from Lamai to Chaweng at night ?

    Thanks Gus,

    Samui Hotel. Best option

    Hi,

I'm planning to visit Samui and will be my first time. I know Bkk and Pattaya very well.

After reading this thread I'm confused about 2 or 3 hotels.

What is the best option between Marina Beach, The Weekender and Lamai Wanta. I supose that all hotels are GF and not too much far of nighlife.

    Any recomendation will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Weekender was totally GF But I have not stayed there for 2 years.
Now I stay Marina Beach resort, which is about half a mile further up the main drag. This place is very GF, bungalows clean with A/C, TV, room safe etc also right on the beach. In the 800-1500 range

ps It is very quiet in the night, no techno, but also no pool, but you are 1 minute from the sea.
I still have never visited Chaweng, maybe because of rip off taxis at night.

    Weekender Resort Lamai GFE?

The weekender is well positioned in the centre of Lamai, just a few minutes walk from the action.

    Gus,

Found this old post of yours about the Weekender Resort - was it GF?

Seems from reading reviews on other travel sites it is family oriented.

Looking for a nice place on Lamai Beach - since the Lamai Wanta that many recommended is fully booked.

    Hi Rascal,

In 8 weeks I will travel also again to Samui for the 3th time.

As for your question, The 3 disco's are in Chaweng. You have the "Green Mango" disco located at the Soi Green Mango and the "Reggea Pub" at Soi Reggea. If you ask people or best a taxidriver they would easily provide you there. Watch out taxi's are expensive at Samui, best rent a motorbike 250bht a day. I rent for 3 weeks so prize goes down for me to 200bht/day.

Never been at the Solo disco (where all go from 0.200 am) so I don't know where it is.

Am curious at what time you will go (maybe at same time and maybe we could meet).

As I can't use the Private Mail on this site and if you would like more info you can mail me at rik_1966 (at) hotmail (dot) com

    Lamai Wanta Alternative

Well seems like this Lamai Wanta - recommended by others here - is too nice - just found out that it is fully booked for the time I'm arriving on Ko Samui.

Any other recommendations that match the qualities of Lamai Wanta?

Quiet, Clean, Great Restaurant, Pool, close to nice swimming beach, and GFE?

I have just spent 6 nights in Lamai, been there about 5 times now.
I stay at Marina Beach resort, GF, on beach, centre of Lamai, room safes, A/C at 1400 ish high season.
In Lamai Saturday night fight night is a must, lady boxing, and ladyboy, the girls from the bars go ballistic when their girl is fighting, starts 1030, right in the centre of town by McDonalds.
About 60 Beer bars in Lamai, pickings a bit thin but there are the odd gems.
Plenty of 6's with good attitude.
I never even bother going to Chaweng.
Also a couple of late night discos if you've not managed to find something you like.

Is it your first to Thailand? Or only to Samui?

In my opinion, Samui's nightlife (however you can find someone easily) is pretty tame.

    You have 2 areas:

Chaweng: Very touristy area with 2 Agogo bars and lots of other bars

    Lamai: More Laid back

Both areas have gems (but they need to be found).

I can't really say if it is better to stick to the same girl or butterfly, but i can tell you what I would do: I would not keep the girl for the whole stay.. unless she is a stunner and unbelievable in bed

Last time I was in samui I found the ladies less appealing than in April 2005.

Still a lot of fun to be had in Samui.

What's the latest in Koh Samui?

Seems no much reports about this island.

Going to be there in 2 weeks time for the first time and wondering whether there is any update on the locations/bar fines etc.

Is it a good step to keep a girl for the whole stay or change then everyday? Is it cheaper that way (well from a western perspective nothing is that exensive in Thai, but do not want to feel ripped off

Not necessarily looking for the variety, but for a good GFE.

Are the girls reliable on that for a LT (or days)?

    Any hint will help!
