    Ko samui

Just got back from another spell in Samui, its great, check out a little place, behind Starbucks in Chewang, called Eden , similar set up to its name sake in Bangkok, but not as many girls, good service managed to find a rather trickey thing on my second visit.

The place is just down the road from a very good Italian, called Vecia Napoli, also well worth a visit

Pink ladies, on the high street is nice, but Samui is great for its freelancers, Green Mango road, especially Sweet Soul Cafe, around 11pm, they seem to come out of everywhere, 1000baht, and you go to bed very happy.

Found a great little resort in Lamai, called Lamai Wattana, right on Lamai beach which has the best swimming on the island. Bungalows from around 1500 baht, rooms from around 700 baht, seriously good. If you drive through lamai, its on the left turning for the beach, only drawback is no resteraunt, but there 10 a penny round there.

I will be heading back there in 6 weeks, if anyone else has any info, please let me know.

Just been to LOS for 2 weeks, which was 2 days in BKK,3 days in Pattaya, 7 days in Lamai Beach and a final 2 days in BKK, this FR covers Samui.

The airport at Samui must surely be the prettiest in the world,if there are better ones they must be quite remarkable.

Mini-bus to the Weekender resort, Lamai cost about 120 baht.

The Weekender deluxe room cost me 2100 per night, it was a large room with balcony, air con, 2 beds inc 1 king, ocean view, tv and the bathroom consisted of bath/shower with poor water pressure and not a lot of hot water, but just about enough as it was very hot anyway.

The weekender is well positioned in the centre of Lamai, just a few minutes walk from the action.

There are plenty of beer bars in Lamai, with plenty of girls, although not many 8, 9 and 10s, the average prices are 200bf and 1000 LT although without doubt you could find cheaper.

Lamai is basically just one main street so it is very difficult to keep your business to yourself. I enjoyed myself there although next visit will be to Jomtien again, although I would return to lamai possibly in a couple of years.

If you are in a long term relationship with TG you could take her there for a week, thr return flight costs 6,500 baht.

Any bros want further info send pm.

    Rgds,

    Gus

I liked the scene in Samui (certainly the surroundings help a lot). I've always found the sex scene in Bangkok far too intimidating for me. I'm not one of the "lads" really. And as I travel alone, I never felt quite up to going off to the areas in Bangkok and agressive hookers really.

When I was down in Samui, i met a lovely bargirl in Lamai. She's 22 btw (I.D card) but very cute and small. It was the perfect situation for me really. Had some great shags from her. I'm pretty much in Thailand every year or so, because i'm travelling in Asia a lot, and Thailand is a hub between countries. So I always meet up with her every year and we go off around Thailand and Cambodia together. Nice girl.

There seemed to be quite a lot going on in Lamai when I was there. Chaweng scene appears to be more like Pattaya (even though I've never been there) in terms of the hard sell. You just have to ride past on a moto, and the girls in the bar will be whooping and yelling. I've heard that it's a lot more expensive for girls in Chaweng, due to the package tour types around. So i've avoided the nightscene there.

As for Lamai. I would agree with those who say the girls in Lamai are not exactly supermodels though. Many have so so looks, and several i've met in bars always seemed to be to old to be a bargirl (imo). It was quite sad, as they were of course left there all night without anyone interested in them. Lovely girls. But not particulary attractive physically. They were mostly looking out for the older falang really.

Yet, there are nice girls. You just have to look quite hard. The girl I know and keep seeing, is pretty and like a little china doll. Certainly more of the Girlfriend type. Bar fine was B200 when I was there. For the night, I had to pay B500. But now I only pay the bar fine, and we spend our time together all the time, and i pay for meals, etc etc.

In the middle of the main Lamai strip, there are more bars and some amazing go go dancers. Some of the girls in these places are fantastic indeed, and they have a lot of fun (unlike a horribly depressing show I saw in Patpong once). They girate, and have lots of fun with each other. The price was always the same. B500 for the night usually. 200-300 Bf.

    Hey Red,

If its the Central Samui in Chaweng, don't worry about the beach road. You wont hear that much noise after 2am. The beach road is busy but not that loud. I promise you that booking a room is not that big of a deal. You are talking almost 3000 baht(or a little less). That is more than enough for a good room. Samui is not as packed as Pattaya and if you stay 1 or 2 nights in a cheaper place(say 1500-2000 baht) and dont like it, it is easy to change. Most of the hotels have copies of the local free magazines and some have the price and phone numbers of many places listed inside. There are tons of them on Chaweng beach road. Not all the places in Samui are on web sites and some are recently established and clean like The New Villa at the end of beach road. I found a room in August in less than 2 hours after landing and switched rooms a few days later. Especially when other folks will tell you where they stay and what they pay. Check my earlier post about Chicken, she is a winner if still around. I will try to find my August free hotel mag to give you a few suggestions tomorrow. When you get to the island you may find the solitude of the Bophut area or banrak area nicer.

    Info please?

Does anyone have information re:-Central samui village?

Does the noisey highway go close by?

    Is it girl friendly?

Can anyone suggest a nice place approx. 60-70 dollars a night?

Also is this bird flu thing effecting the tourism?

I am going to be there around mid Feb.

Does anyone have a stunner ex-girlfriend they want me to say hello to?

Where do you find real stunners?

    Thanks Virgo!

I found your reply to be quite meaningful as you pretty much put things in perspective which, coupled with my additional research, gives me an idea of what to expect.

Thanks, and keep up the good work! If this dream trip works out, I'll post a comprehensive report for Koh Samui as it is relatively empty when compared to other areas of Thailand.

    Way to go folks,

I love samui obviously. When I was there last spring I left in early May and swimming was great in many places. The water is actually a little more shallow in some areas and you can go far out without much bad current. As always be careful but the Phuket side has more choppy waters. I swam on the north side of Samui as well as the east side (Chaweng) and it was great.

    Chok Dee

P.S. As for the girls they do tend to be seasonal but there are always stunners working at the various shops that can be gotten. You could always bring a Bangkok TG but I suggest a little small town "coochie" from the "dirty south". They can make you feel good.

Does anyone have info re:- a good massage place or better yet a soapy massage in either Chawang or Lamai area?

How much should one pay for soapy?

  9. #25
    Thanks Virgo & Joe,

Good info and I will check out all of it.

Also, do you have info regarding the beach? I understand parts of it are very shallow and hard for swimming, one end is better, which end?

I checked on sawandee and there seems to be many bungalows between the two main places Chawang and Lamai. Does anyone have info in this area?

Also anymore info re:- stunner girls.

Thanks again for everyones help, this is a great forum.

    I will post my experience.

    Hello folks,

I am planning a trip to Thailand, was looking at mid-May (Bangkok and Koh Samui).

I know it's going to be HOT, but I can stand the heat...also, smaller crowds and bigger discounts!

Anyway, I read that unlike in Phuket, it's going to be pretty nice out there during that time. Am I correct in assuming the sea won't be rough and will be great for swimming..?

Also, can anybody comment on the availability of the TGs during that month (do they hibernate or what?)

    I would appreciate any feedback,

    Cloud9 Seeker

Joe Z is right, you can get a lot of info at sawadee.com. Also when I go it is not during the Nov-mar high/peak season. I stay in Banrak about a kilometer from Big Budda beach. There is a place called Pongpetch servotel. Not fancy but clean rooms and great manager A/C and hot Chaweng. You can see a lot of 18-22 Euro gals and Israelis there and some Aussies and Brits. very few USA when I went. Not sure where you hail from but everyone is laid-back. Most druggies go to the next island of koh Pangan for the full-moon beach party.(it has a web site) Even so be careful because everyone is lookin to get laid so hip your daughter to the scoop.

By the way Pongpetch has 1000B rooms and it is a 12 min drive at most to Chaweng if you rent a cheap ass suzuki jeep. I would rent a moto but you are with child so as Joe said dont risk it without bigtime travelers insurance. And even that can't undo a hurt. Also there is a new place called the NEW VILLA at the bottom of Chaweng beach road a 2min walk from the beach. It was 600 B a nite in August but now I dont know. It was not on any website and you should not book your whole trip at one place because you can find another in a day or 2. I will try to find the business card I have for them to post later. It had 2 double beds in a room and A/C. All prices will be more in feb. I still have some detailed maps if I can find them with hotel names. I will try.

Being new to the board I am just trying to earn my keep. Hope I helped anybody.

    Ciao.

Oh, please look at my past Samui post report. Freelancers can be cheap but grab them early in the evening, try em out and decide if a keeper. You will be surprised at what a 7 will do in bed in Samui if you are nice. Go to the Burger King on Chaweng beach road during the mid day and there is a 7-11 nearby. DONT FORGET THIS LOCATION!! It is the hang out after the bars close and I have gotten very lucky here! Cross the street in the day from the 7-11 and in the alleyway there is a beauty salon. If Tik is still around then you are a lucky man. Joy is not as fine but she takes it long time with no complaints, but she is a jealous one.

Red Cork -- you might want to take a look at the Samui Resotel, which is on the bottom end of Chaweng, away from most of the craziness, and not too far from Lamai. The price for a private beachfront bungalow ranges from 2500-3000bath in mid-February -- quite reasonable for an air-conditioned place right on the beach. (You can see prices and information at http://www.sawadee.com/samui/resotel/. This site has prices and info for other places as well, and it pretty reasonable, overall, in terms of their offering prices.) I've stayed there several times and it's a great deal. (I'd spring for the more expensive ones, if you can get one, as they're a bit roomier and more private. As far as pricing, it's tough to find things in the 1000baht range during high season.

No phones or internet access in the bungalows or resort itself, which is fairly normal in Samui, but there are internet cafes within walking distance. It's easy enough to hop a seelor to move around -- I'd advise against renting a motorbike or car there, as Samui has pretty much the highest accident rate in LOS, which is saying a lot.

Samui is more English-friendly than a lot of places, so you might have some luck finding a woman who speaks passably who's not a bar girl, perhaps among vendors, but I wouldn't hold my breath -- while it's a more laid back scene than many spots in LOS, and the beer bars, gogos and discos have lately been pushed off the main drag, it's still a tourist area in Thailand, which means that there's action all over the place.

TG prices are higher than Pattaya, lower than Phuket.

    Hello Virgo,

Thanks for all the valuble info and opinions.

Yes it would be nice if she could bring a friend along, but I do not want the responsibility of another teenage girl in a faraway land. Even though it would be helpful, but on the other hand I'm wanting her to get away from her screwed up friends and life here in vancouver and meet new friends, I expect there are many young people in Koh Samui. Backbacker types that are her age. I have looked at a map and read abit now about the area, and am now thinking of finding a place in between Chawang and Lamai. Do you know how that area is? 4000 bht. a night is a bit steep, I have heard bungalows on the beach are somewhere in the 1000 -2000 range, am I getting wrong info?

What do the TG girls charge there now?

    Thanks again

    Hey RED,

I dont know about internet connections in Hotels but there are internet places up and down Chaweng beach road. The fast ones were 2bhat per minute a few months ago. I am sure though that the more pricey places may help you. The 4000B and up places.

I can tell you that all the major disco action is at Soi Green Mango. There are about 4-5 bar -slash discos there. You can chat up your TG while keeping an eye on your kid in some ways because they are all open air places. There is always the reggae bar which is huge and open air. If possible bring another teen girl to hangout with your daughter. It will help you greatly.

If Chaweng Beach is too crowded go to Lamai. It is more laid back and family friendly if you can only go with your daughter. The wild Chaweng area is only 10 minutes away by ride.

Hello and Happy New Year to all.

I am going to Koh Samui in mid. Feb.

I will be bringing my rebellious 16 year old beautiful daughter.

I have to get her away from her home and her crazy mother.

She is going to do school home work via lap top and internet.

I am looking for a mid range priced resort or bungalow. If bungalow, I will get one for me on the beach and one for her close, so as not to cramp mine and her style. Is it possible to find bungalows with internet connection and sat/tv? And of course air/con. Also she wants to party a bit in clubs at night. Of course dad will be with her and some how try to find some action that she will approve of. Is it possible to find a nice non-bar girl who speaks passable english? If anyone happens to know of such a lady, i will take very good and generous care of her.

Any suggestions as to places would be greatly appreciated.

Any other valuble experience info also. I have been to Thailand a few times but never to Koh Samui so I sort of understand how it works. Wink, wink.

    Thanks
