I'm always somewhat bemused at the tendency of some here to take what was intended as simple humor and turn it into a treatise on logical fallacies. Obviously, my intent was not to compare the arduous training of a surgeon to the total lack thereof of a cam girl.

Truth is society undervalues intellect and over values beauty.

Surgeons often suffer from stress and a form of PTSD, and cannot work for 30 yrs, most become consultants or teaching surgeons, so the claim that surgeons can work till they 65 is a bit misleading.

Well from my experience a lot of these girls haven't worked it out. The number who beg to do a cam show for 300 peso so she can get food. Sure there are always some success stories just like there are 30 and 40 year olds that get a guy to give them a house, car, allowance etc. The majority don't get that.

Even in their language there is no he or she but a common pronoun and often here they confuse Madam and Sir. Not in the Philippines but I am in Dubai where there is a large Pinnoy community, and this post was on the front page, so it caught my eye. These dealings are fairly common in places where "poor" girls meet well off foreign men. I'd suggest to anyone visiting Asia (Thailand, Philippines etc.) to to read Warren Olson's Confessions of a Bangkok Private Eye. It's quite fun and entertaining and gives sobering details about what could happen to unsuspecting tourist / boy friend / future husband meeting their dream girl. One story that really struck me was about this guy who found the perfect bride, a one who wanted to stay virgin till they get married so he sets out to marry her. Somehow, he found that suspicious decides to hire a private. The detective investigated her but cannot find a trace of her in any of the places where he searches for her records (such as wedding registry, birth certificates etc.) he finally found out that the reason she was not register was that she was actually a a transvestite who was waiting to collect enough money for the surgery and then marry the "victim". His family was aware and being more accepting of such things did not find any issue about it. Fortunately for him, the detective found out before. It's a bit romanticized but I believe most stories are based on actual cases as the author claims. In any case anyone going to places like that should read the book. It's entertaining and gives a realistic picture of the dark side of such places, in case we fail to notice it.
