It's sad, but a lot of the travel ban seemed to play with politics and international relationships. They didn't want to upset countries like China and the US. You're right, though. If we're just looking at the numbers, travel from the US should've been banned a while ago (around Sept / Oct).

But this recent travel ban was due to the new, highly contagious strain. I don't think there will be any way to contain this strain and despite the lockdowns, our numbers will get worse. I was going to say that's a stereotype but alas it holds true. My SO is Japanese, and even though my work allows me to travel throughout Asia, she has held deep reservations about me ever going to the PI alone. Some of her friends who were married to Americans, lost their husbands to a "younger model" Pinay.
