Air from Atlanta is now $418 or less. Less from MIA.
Hotels are $48 plus tax or less. Ask for the special TSM rate at the Presidente, or the special $29 rate at the Royal Dutch.
Chicas are $24 or less.
Food? Dine at the Y.

Kosher doesnt know if he drives/drove a van, he has one of those little red taxis. He also knows the massage parlors, Kosher will look for him next trip.

Thanks Kosher, that is good information, of the kind we need.
I remember seeing Guillermo many times in the past few years, and I think I used him (and his van?) to take a group to a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner in 2002.
Renting a car for travel in the countryside to the beach is risky because of cost, real risk of getting lost or taking the wrong turn at an unmarked intersection, risk of accident, risk of a ticket, risk of potholes, risk of not finding a gas station which is not as easy as in North America and so on.
Renting a car at a beach destination seems like a good idea if you do not wish to take a taxi.
A word of caution.
One group of Gringo tourists hired a taxi driver, at the suggestion of a real estate agent, to drive them to the beach to look a property to buy. They were staying there a few days. The taxi driver took them to dinner, telephoned his pals to rob the house where the gringos were staying, while they were at a restaurant eating dinner, and so long valuables including passport and money, and airline tickets. I talked to the guys upon returning to San Jose. A sad group.
It pays to know who to trust.

Lo siento, his name is Guillermo. He loves to hang out right at the presidente, on the street outside news kafe, kosher saw him the day he took him to jaco, two days later saw him again at new fantasy waiting for clients, and the next day he was at presidente waiting, he is a nice guy, and will negotiate good, kosher thought 40 was fair to take me solo to jaco, kosher also gave him a 5000 kolones propina, kosehr felt for the guy, driving a kab for 30 years and family to take kare of. So true kost of trip was roughly $ 52.50 , big deal

For those of you who forgot to bring toys, lube and such to San Jose, when I was walking to 747 I passed XXX Mundo on the way. It's on Calle 2, between Avenida 3-5. (I'm 90% sure anyway). It's in a cul de sac, on the West side of the street, right at the end.

They had a good selection of video, dvd, plus toys, lubes and lots of other fun stuff. Their USA imported stuff was expensive, but you could pick up China stuff for 8000-10000 colones. (Vibrators, dildos, etc).

They do have some adult video booths in the back. They're priced like US places (100 colones for 1 1/2 minutes), and you have to buy $c2000 minimum in coins. They say one person per booth, but it could be fun to bring a chica there and test the system. They have doors on the units.

I tried to get a business card, but they didn't have any.

Hey, Kosher, if you're going to post a picture of a guy who will drive you for $40, you should at least post some way of contacting him. Otherwise, it might take a couple of years of wandering around to find him in San Jose.

There are also tourist buses that will take you for $10-$15 or my favorite, take a Tico bus for $2-$3.
