As far as I know, there is not much mongering action near the Sheraton (unless you are interested in those cheap ass ones from the nearby Ramna Park). All the guest houses that has been mentioned in this forum are located in Gulshan / Baridhara area of Dhaka city. Depending on the time of the day you travel, it can take anywhere from 30mins to 1.5hrs to get there. Sometimes more.

If I were you, I would try to stay at a hotel thats located near Gulshan/Baridhara area and not stay at the Sheraton. Its a very old hotel and I have heard that the rooms are quiet old. Though, there are other mongers who have stayed in that hotel (check previous reports for more info). The only 4 star plus hotel I can think of is Radisson thats on Airport Road. The Westin was under construction when I was in Dhaka in June. Not sure when it will open. You can check that as well. There are lots of other local hotel (like Sarina) in the Gulshan/Baridhara area that are good too. Though they are not part of an international chain. Keep in mind that the Gulshan/Baridhara is considered the diplomatic enclave (all the foreign embassies and foreign clubs such as American club are located.) so its a very safe area in relation to other parts of the city. Especially during this time when there is so much going on with regards to the upcoming election.

Do you know where you work in Dhaka is? Is it near the Gulshan area? I'm sure if you can use the current political situation and safety to your advantage and get out of staying at the Sheraton. Just tell your company that based on your own research, you have found out that Gulshan/Baridhara area is 1000 times safer than the Sheraton area.

I've plans to go to Bangladesh for a month in December. But for now, I've put it on hold because of the current political crisis.

Lastly, I think we should move this thread from here to under "Dhaka" as this is the Photo forum.

Im going to Dhaka straight after new years (2nd Jan) for 9 days staying at the Sheraton Dhaka (not hotel of choice but company paying), is this hotel remote from good crumpet/women bars. I would be grateful for feedback on wether its remote or distance to nightlife.
Shame EZ's place isnt open yet as Im sure that would be the place to go!

Havent posted in a while. Got too much on my plate. Also now getting to know a few couples who are into swinging, so introducing my girlfriends to this new way of fun.
