I am struggling to load pictures because the system says that they are too large.

Unfortunately this is the only one that got through the net, and it is not very good.

You may try free, simple, small and safe software from window known as Image Resizer. Once install just right click to any picture that you want to resize and you can see a menu with "Resize Picture" .. this small program is integrated with you right click menu.
