Update - Astoria and Admiral Plaza Hotels

In my travels last night I made a couple of enquiries at reception on behalf of someone else.

Astoria is definitely not GF anymore due to their recent "police problems". Reception wouldn't elaborate. Currently quoting 680/night. One of Astoria's Bars has also been closed down (pool table bar) - police problems?

A mate I was with last night confirmed Astoria's non-GF status. He told me he managed to sneak a gal in a few weeks ago, and security came up an hour later and insisted she leave (He proudly told me it was a cute young blonde we both know and he had a crush on. Turns out it was my young blonde freebie from a few weeks ago. I didn't have the heart to tell him I had her calling out my name repeatedly in her comfy bed recently. He and I saw her last night in York with her new BF, the naughty little butterfly).
    _______
Admiral Plaza - GF - no problems, no extra charge if you book a double room 700. Single is 650.

Go figure, could be that everyone knows the 4 points is a better venue (GF and local) compared to Dubai creek (or this could just be a market blip.)

I do not blame the hotels for getting the best rate they can in the circumstances, but this is clearly a case of "squeeze what you can from the market."
I saw rates online (starwoodhotels.com/ fourpoints/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1230) and booked Four Points a day back for 455 + tax per nite for jan 15th to 17th. Not sure why it is cheap.

But seriously, I'm trying to help out a forum mate who gave me a lot of good info via PM about BKK and resulted in a super-cutie in my first hours there.
    Piper,
    Check your PMs.

    Al Murooj Rotana

Will be visiting DXB next week and am staying in the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel. Searched the forums but cant find any mention of the place so don't know if its girl friendly or not. Anyone know? I've heard it has a decent bar called Double Deckers. Is there any WG's in there?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know, with the cool weather these days, those park benches could be rather nice.

A lot of hotels follow this concept - last m inute deals - not enough time to load on the website, or maybe an agent whose client has cancelled re-sells the room at a 50% discount, but pockets this plus the cancellation charge from the first client.

It WAS on the website, at least Friday it was

Where did you see that? It's not on the Starwood website.

Yield management is practiced in many industries, and room availability can vary by the hour, keep checking and when you see a rate you can swallow, grab it RIGHT THEN!

I got two nights at the Sofitel last year during GITEX (yes the rate sucked) when everyone, including the front desk swore there was nothing. When it popped on the Accor website, I snapped it up, and voila! a room.

    Haapy New year!
Hi mate. Dar Al Sandos is GF. A friend from the forum stays there quite often and has not had any problems.

Hi guys Thanks to all you guys who posted about me. Special thanks to the "Silent Majority" who heaved a sigh of relief when I left. But before we all celeberate let me give you the bad news. There is a possibility the "Silent Majority" might have to endure some more of my trite reports in the near future. Still early days but there is some possibility of me coming back to haunt them.

Sad to hear about the sudden demise of the ruler. It was unexpected, to say the least.

    Cheers

Piper, If you ever think of offering this service to well respected members of the forum, just let me know. The prices quoted by DXB hotels are getting ridiculous. So far I'm voting with my feet and staying away.
