    Novotel/ Ibis

    Danxxx,
If it's anything like the Ibis at the other end of the Exhibition grounds it's friendly.
I stayed at the Ibis in July. The concierge stated that the girl had to have a driving licence or original passport. When I brought her in, I avoided the lobby on the left and headed straight for the lifts on the right. No security, no concierge, no problems. Since they are both affiliated, I may presume that the same principle may apply. Since GITEX is just around the corner, the rules may change. . .
Good luck. Hotel places during GITEX have escalated disproportionally and rooms are totally booked up. Ibis was a cheap hotel option, clean but very small rooms with few amenities (no minibar). It's location for the Exhibition centre is its main selling point. IMHO.

    Good hunting

A beer, a babe and a billiard table (not necessarily in that order), and Piper is a happy man!

True - it's kitch. I've had opportunities to go for free, but always declined. Does this mean I have class?

The Burj used to have summer sales: only $700 usd / night.

WG I used to pull from Cyclone had been there. She was not that impressed, although she said the room was 2 stories.

    Burj

Crafty travel agents and hotels can get you an "afternoon tea" for only 400Dhs per person at the Burj. It would appear some folks just want to bask in the reflected glory of the mega-rich.

Me, I live off their crumbs.

    Cheers,

Palms is still being constructed - I can see it mushrooming every day from my window.

For flights - check Emirates.com. I have purchased tickets for friends from Dubai travel agents for almost half the price they would've paid outside the country.

    Why not Google

This can be answered in one word, Google.

I would certainly consider Emirates airline, they are better than most "Western" carriers.

You don't say where you are coming from but the best bet may be a package deal (flights and accommodation combined). Again Google.

    the Palm

I was watching a show about the Palm island, I was wondering if anyone has gone there and if it is finished. While I was in the military I was in the Middle East and was suppose to go to UAE, but things have a way of not working out.

    PP,

Check my earlier post of Feb/March regarding Traders Hotel. It was brand new when I stayed there so no action in the bar or lobby, fairly business like formal hotel but very nice one. I called up a regular for some fun in my room and she had aboslutely no problems in coming up. No rude security, no extra check, nothing, just the security called me in my room and asked if I was expecting a friend. So girl friendly but no talent available in-house.

    Al2,

Great info, thanks. I was toying with the idea of staying a night at Dubai Grand when I get the chance in a few weeks. Now I know I will stay there, for old-times sake. I used to be a regular at the bars there, but lived nearby, so wasn't sure of the system in the hotel.

    cheers
