Some guys spend a huge amount of time on the internet in chatrooms, email, etc. setting up the freebies in advance. I believe this was Eaglestar's secret for success but I will let him comment himself.


I also reckon the internet is the best approach for the business traveler to China. The girl knows that she has a limited amount of time to secure the relationship and already feels she knows you from the internet.

For local based laowais, learning a bit of the language is a big advantage. Basically, you gain access to the entire market with Mandarin skills. Many Chinese girls are curious about foreigners but are unable to act due to their language limitations.

Lower your expectations depending on your age: I found that when I set my focus on the 28-35 age group, my hit rate went up substantially. I wasted a lot of time chasing young stuff. Now, I pay for the young stuff and chase older freebies.

I do not consider myself to be that big, only average for a laowai. That said, I often get complaints from P4P girls. All of your points are well taken, however, my take is that most of them complain and fake pain in order to try to make you feel sorry for them and pop faster thus reducing the amount of time they have to service you.

On the other hand, the actual rate depends on the locale, but I get refused service by an nationwide average of about 30% of P4P girls for the reasons you state.

Excluding her looks, history, etc., like most elders do, and judging on her practical "value" (unfair, I know...), she's got a business with a house. Those are bargaining chips! If the guy's got equal to what's she's got, GREAT, match made and depending on both of their income, a month's salary in red envelope 'thank you' tip. In consistency with the suggested two month's salary for a wedding ring...

If, however, the guy's got value more than the girl, then the red envelope wouldn't be that impressive. No disrespect to you and definitely NONE to the girl, but in the Asian world of traditional and practical relationships for family and stability; emotional love is mocked while a relationship that looks good on paper and for both families is embraced.

only in china, should be the title to this post. it's so strange how life works sometimes. it's ok for a rich guy to be with a dirt poor girl, and not have to worry about whether the girl will "only be with him for his money"; however, it is not alright for the opposite to happen to a girl- where the richer girl cannot be with a dirt poor guy. strange how that works, but society dictates norms and apparently we are all affected by it and we live by it.

i notice another irony in the situation as well. you helped her accumulate wealth to go back to her village to marry someone stable. so in her years being with you she was dependent on your financial support, and she was alright with being supported by you. but now that she's back in her village, she is actually in your position now, being richer than most other people in the village. now when she wants to be with a dependable guy, but who's dirt poor, it's not alright to support a man in that position anymore, that same position that she was alright with previously when she was with you. the suportee becomes a supporter.

what's strange is, how come it's ok for guy to be the supporter? why is it that guys don't mind being the supporter? are we scared of being with a dirt poor girl? i don't think we are scared of a girl being too dirt poor at all. it goes back to the social norms that dictate our lives. there are certain things that never change, a girl wants to be supported by a man- a man who's dependable, on the same level or better. a man wants a woman who is younger and prettier.

so far so good.... until she asks me what i think about what this idiot was proposing to her. couldn't believe it!! he said his mom had told him to ask her for rmb 50,000 for the wedding, and that after marriage, he will move into her house. she had managed to build a house when i was keeping her: g/f is 2 shop spaces, one which she uses for her business, the other rented out for rmb 450/month. 2/f is where she lives at whilst the 3rd and 4th floors are also rented out. and then this other 'request' - that she buy some more furniture for her present place to make it more live-able for the 2 of them! and before they get married!!

can you believe this??!! who the hell does this guy think he is?! well, my ex-gf of course saw thru all this and was shaking her head (figuratively!) as much as i was, whilst we were chatting. but the nerve of the guy!!

thank god that she was sensible enough to have never had any physical contacts with him. she tells me that at home in her village, there's no way that she would have even kissed him before getting married. it's just not on! how extreme the differences in china!

she had been telling me all along how difficult it is for her to find a "good guy" back home - and was wondering if all that we had talked about and worked towards whilst we were together - is really such a good 'plan" as we had thought it was then. she was going to be with me, accumulate enough to have a certain amount of financial independence, go back home and then slowly pick and chose a suitable good guy to settle down with and raise a family with.
