China in the past 15-20 years has had a major MAJOR infusion of capitalism. Before then although everyone was dirt poor, they were at least equal, meaning none of the extreme competition as it is now. Then all of a sudden all the money started pouring in from overseas and various Chinese have thought of businesses with an emerging market, making them extremely rich. They flaunt their wealth like no tomorrow and because Chinese like to compare, its turned into a free-for-all grab bag of resources for everyone. Imagine growing up in a society where you have to compete with hundreds if not thousands for each school seat, job or even marriage partners now. It hardens them like you said but not such as in a honorable hard-working fashion, it taught them to claw and scratch for everything they can, mostly in a sneaky and cowardly way. Most Chinese deep down know this about themselves which explains a lot about their insecurity.

Its unlike any other superpower country in history where steady growth has normally led to a strong foundation of values and treatment of people. There is all this "new" money and power now for many people who don't know how to properly invest and really benefit all around them. Its like pouring a gallon of water into a pint sized cup, your bound to get a mess. I grew up hearing from various elderly and relatives how I knew nothing of Chinese culture, well I get it now and its not much to write home about. Those same elderly have nothing to say anymore either.

To your point on foreigners being the cause, I suppose being from foreign lands with favorable currency rates and language barriers could have contributed but I believe its more what AsnDragon pointed out with new money from other Mainlander BSDs thats the key contributor. After all RMB currency has become stronger against all others in the past 10 years and probably due to currency depreciation and inflation, foreigners are probably paying 70-100% more then what we've paid back in the day. If anything from foreign countries has affected China its feminism thats given women goals to make money on their own, travel and more economic power overall. There are more white collar and sales jobs in all major cities with women making up the majority of workers giving some WG more options than the factory jobs they previously had. But still I think its due to lots of rich mainlander BSDs not knowing anything about women and thinking buying them is the only answer. The skewed sex ratio also has contributed to the attitude.

But then again without the new capitalism and competition, I suppose maybe we wouldn't have much of a CP in the first place!

Anyway with the KTVs, yeah no more try before you buy (or rent, whatever) , but I suppose counter measures are to ask the mom up front about this before you choose to have a short trial, or if a flower street then do you interview of 5 minutes at the street before you take back. Or if you change your mind in the room, then don't send them away with the money and a chance to earn more money off some other schmuck, leave them there until you are good and ready to go and let them sit there and pout like the trash they are. Its all business at the end of the day.

I have been doing business in China for over three decades and if it is one thing that I learned from all the mistakes I've made there, it's that Chinese businessmen do not generally appreciate graciousness! They take any common courtesies accorded to them as signs of weakness, that anybody who would concede anything are weak and / or addled brained, and that all that matters is what they can make right then and there. To hell with building up long term relationships as their own mercantile history has been so short and whatever success they've achieved had, for the most part, all been accomplished by only dealing with the now.

I have been castigated in the past for voicing out how IMHO, we as foreign mongers have contributed to the decline in service attitude and a corresponding irrational rise in prices in CP; how we all have been continually taken advantage of, but instead of fighting back, have just been gleefully accepting all the crap that we have been shoveled. I am not singling out anybody, nor any group, nor any particular national, nor any particular action / habit of anybody to stand out as being particularly egregious in contributing to where we now are at in CP. I'the rather think that most of us have equally contributed to this sad state of affairs in CP.

The latest crap to be happening is of course this new rule put in place by EuroAsia (OuYa) that once you've chosen a girl and she enters your room, if you change your mind and you want to turf her back out, they are now entitled to demand RMB 300 from you (believe though that the actual amount is still being argued by various parties). No more 15 minutes grace period at all!

This latest salvo had been unilaterally imposed upon us paying customers as many of us had been gracious in the past and would 'tip' various amounts when we change our mind and decided that the girl chosen really wasn't up to par. KTV's all over town are competing hard to attract quantity and quality of girls, and to do so, they've been getting more and more accommodating to the girls' demands I. E. Bumping up rates across the board by 100 (which we as customers end up paying for, and in fact subsidizing the establishment to build up their business) , condoning and even facilitating girls to 'butterfly' and earn multiple sitting fees each night, not coming down hard on girls who 'fly plane' their clients etc.

And of course now this latest 'rule' instigated by OuYa. I can see this quickly spreading to other KTV's in town as girls really hate being picked, made to sit for the 15 minutes trial period, being turfed out, and not being able to be picked out again as the flower street session had then ceased.

Sweet Young Things – a favorite expression for us mongers when describing these supposedly naïve CP girls. But let me assure you that for the most part, they are nothing of the sort and I would suggest that more of you stand up for your rights as customers and not be swayed or beguiled by the excitement or glamour of it all. And of course to think with your big head instead of the little one! There's literally an unlimited supply of these supposed SYT's in CP! Trust me!

Well I have made and completed my trip to CP again. Follows is a short report:

I arrived as planned at the Walter Hotel about 10:30 PM-thanks to GoFly, Ken for making the van reservations. Next time though, please include the extra bag charges. 120 RMB for any bag over one. When the trip only costs 180 RMB it seems a bit excessive to charge for the bag. I negotiated it down to 100 RMB, but still!

Checked into hotel and got immediate message from Ken to help with KTV booking. I was late but got a room very easily and there seemed to be an abundance of girls. Now I admit that my standards may not be as high as some of the other bros, but I had no problem two I wanted to sit. One girl was "model" category and one regular. Both were fun in the room. The only problem was the annoyance of the Mummy's bringing in more and more girls and wanting me to sit 3 or 4 girls. I finally had to get rather pointed and said don't bring any more!
