A good clue as to whether a place is safe or not is to check out the decor of the place. If there are lots if lights, lots of attendants dressed in uniforms at the door, etc. you should be alright. The places described by Erik that blatantly rip off customers are usually dark and dingy places that can only be found with the help of a 'guide' - most likely one that has just approached you in the street. This is quite common in JieFangBei, so do what I normally do and tell these guys to get lost. If the place was that good, it wouldn't need people to pull in the punters.

If you want to try KTV, there are plenty of safe ones to choose from in CQ but best go with a group of friends. Quite a few choices in the De Yi Si Jie entertainment complex in Jiao Chang Kou. My favorite one there is Meng Wan on the lower ground floor.

Well the classic one is that you are not yet sitted that a drink is already brought to you. Then, while you are focused on choosing a girl, some fruit plate that you never ordered will come discreetly, and then a few small glasses of cognac. Of course, all you will have been told is ''no fee'' for the room, maybe just a 50 Y for the girl plus her tip and her drik and yours, and no problem to take her out. Then when you come to pay, you find an impressive list of fees that amount to 2000 Y. The cognac ? Your girl ordered it. You did not notice her drink it ? Maybe you were too focused on her big boobs... Unfortunately the girl has her period (she was too shy to tell you, you know how are Chinese girls...) and cannot follow you. If you don't pay, you might see some tough guys appearing from nowhere.

I am just a regular visitor. I guess you limit the risks of being ripped off if you go with several guys or local guys. I believe you that these are the palce were the most beautiful girls are, but I am just afraid about their tricks, as I have been cheated 2 times in these kind of places. Also, it is over my usual budget.

Are you based in CQ or are you just regular visitor? You seem to know loads about lots of places in China. Respects to you.

However I have a different POV when it comes to karaoke. It depends on what you class as trouble when you go to these places. My experience has always been very positive. The girls are much much more beautiful than the BBS variety and can really make you feel at ease. Just what you need after a hard day's work. Also, actually singing in these places is entirely optional.

My favorite is Resplendence in JieFangBei (opp the Harbour Plaza). Standard take out price is 700RMB (500RMB for the girl, 200RMB for the Mamasan) but if she's good, you can get her number and arrange another time yourself for less. Cost for a mid-size KTV room there is about 100RMB/hr up to a maximum of 400RMB when you can stay as long as you want (even up to 5am) Good for when you have a whole bunch of friends and are looking for girls in the 8-10 range. Maybe some might think its more expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. GFE with a real stunner that knows how to look after their men.

At the other extreme is the row of BBS on CaiYaun Road, opposited the car dealers. This is a strip of about 15 barber shops all full of girls offering their services for 150RMB. Its near the train station in Cai Yuan Ba but only good for days when you are in the mood that kind of sleaziness.

Having found myself spending more time here than I'd expected, I have to agree that it does help to speak some chinese to get around in CQ.

Chongqing is indeed a very good choice for your Thai like holidays in China. But be aware that if you don't speak Chinese, it won't be as easy as in Thailand. Best hunt ground for you will be the barbershops out of Holiday Inn hotel, south of the Yangzi River. You don't have to stay in this hotel, which is expensive. There are small, safe and friendly hotels in this area too, where I guess you should be able to find a room for less than 200 Y. Hotel prices are ALLWAYS negociable in China. Just like chicks. ST negociable for 150 Y to 200 Y. If you want a BJ, do remember to make it clear beforehand. Chinese girls suck less easily than Thai, but in the red light area I am speaking about, it is rather easy to be satisfied. Some of the "papasan" of these shops speak very basic english. The girls don't. They are not freelancers, so don't expect GF experience, and LT could be quite costly.
For a GF, better trying to approach any girl you like in the street. In my opinion, Sichuanese girls are the more open of all Chinese girls. Many department stores with girls shopping in the Jiefangbei central area.
If you approach a student, go cautiously, but do go ahead. She will be more interested into practicing english than earning money. If the girl tells you "nothing" when asked what job she does, very often it means that she is a "xiaojie" (= a chick). The hidden meaning of this type of answer is : "I don't have a real job, but like any human being I need money to live, so, as I have plenty of time, I am open to your all suggestions". Actually, either she is works at night in Karaok or a barbershop and her time will be limited, or she is a real freelancer (which is rather rare).
50 USD is 400 Y, yes, that could be offered for a LT (although you can try 300). For ST, start the offer at 150 Y.
Chongqing is a rather pleasant town, worth visiting by foot, if you have solid legs. Beware the spicy food (same same Thailand, but not the same kind).
Last advice : if alone, like anywhere in China, always stay away from Karaok, or you will end in trouble most of the time. Go only with a reliable local friend.

I am planning for a long weekender mongering holiday in Dec; originally thinking of going to Bangkok. Started to think if I could do domestic travel instead to go after sichuan girls. Is it possible to have LOS like sex filled holiday with GFE type of gals in CQ?
If so, is the penalty comparable to Bangkok i.e under USD50 per day? Never tried this in China, always either ST, BBS or overnighers but never all day GFE anywhere.

Was in Chongqing for four days between October 13 and Oct. 17. Stayed at Hoiliday Inn. Within walking distance of the hotel, you can easily find places where girls are sitting inside. Don't worry, you will be approached by the mamies when you walk close.

I had three girls from these one shops at different times. $200 yuans will go to your hotel room for short time. $400 yuans for all nighter. You will also given a cell phone number to call if you don't want to go out and look. I called one night and asked for a girl with big tits. Touts are everywhere handing you business cards indicating thaqt they have college girls and office girls. They want $400 yuans for short time. Never called for one. I was told by one of the girls I had that they just get a girl from their shop and send her over to your hotel for twice the amount.

So many others have mentioned Chongqing as a "free sex city" , yet we never get any reports on here so I thought I'd start the ball rolling.

Staying in the Hilton CQ this week. I had thought that the practice of people ringing up the rooms and offering "massagee" services was a thing of the past, as I had not experienced this for some time. Anyway, tonight I received not one, not two but three calls within mins of each other!!! After the last one, I decided"what the heck" and agreed to see their girls as long as she had long hair and big tits. The offer price was 600RMB but I laughed that off and it quickly went down to 450RMB. Two minutes later, Eva, a long haired beauty with big tits shows up at my door.
