Two days ago, GF and I were waiting at the KM airport to pick up a friend. Friend calls from Shen Zhen to say that her plane is delayed three hours due to storms. What to do? When I arrived at the bus station I asked a taxi driver to take me to a hotel so, he took me to the most expensive hotel in town. I had to explain I was looking for something more reasonable and closer to where the actions were (in broken Chinese, sign and body language) then; he took me to another hotel. Later on, I discovered that it was exactly where I wanted to be. The hotel was on Xi Lu past the police station. 50 Yuan per night, good service, okay staff, the bathroom was okay and there was hot water but the room was questionable. It looked like it was not dusted for ages. Later on I discovered a better hotel, Hua Yuan Hotel on Dong Lu located conveniently where you would like to be. A newer hotel with clean large room, decent bathroom and hot water, 60 Yuan per night. I felt too lazy to make a move for my short staying but next time, I would definitely stay there.

The actions were located where they were previously reported. I say about a half-dozen shops on each road. The quality was not that impressive and the selection was average. Probably two, three sometimes five, six per shops. The price would start at 300, which I would just laugh then it would drop to 200 and when I started to leave it dropped to 150 Yuan. The first couple of shops wouldn’t budge until one caved in and gave it away for 100 Yuan in my room. After that it was like opening a floodgate and the rest followed. Once they saw me leaving with one then they knew. The first one I tried was a rushed service. She was disappointed that I didn’t take her up on her offer for bj for additional 100 so, she tried to be quick and to rush me which was okay because I needed to release quickly anyway. Just a reminder, beware of those who show too much cleavage because they don’t have the body to go with it. I guess I didn’t stay with my own words and still felt for it, again.

The next couple of ones I took from the same shop. Younger, better looking, friendlier, and better service, 100 Yuan per pop in my hotel room. There is also a row of shops on Linyuan Road that is about a couple of km or so parallel to Zhong Lu. There were about a dozed of them but the quality was not that good and they would start the price with 150. Of course, it was late at night and the selection might have been better earlier in the evening. I don’t think I could distinguish the Chinese ethnic groups much but there were definitely some different looking ones among them. There were also a few shops on the road that comes from the bus station, passed the traffic circle with the stone monument. Again the quality didn’t seem to be that good but it was better than Linyuan Road. I am now wondering if their price of 150 was for an overnight service.

I thought Si Mao was too crowded for its size but still friendly. There is only one road with major shops, stores and the crowd but I had a hard time to find something decent to eat. A taxi ride in Si Mao is wu kuai except coming from the bus station to town (only), it is shi kuai.

Is there another bus station in town because I couldn’t get a direct bus ride to other destinations in my list? I had to have a stopover somewhere in between and stay over-night. It seemed to be easier to take a faster service to Kunming and transfer from there. The scenery around Si Mao was very nice. Spectacular landscape everywhere but I guess the government would need to know that steep cuts for transportation would always fail no matter how much they could mitigate. The bus service to Kunming was very nice and comfortable and it included lunch at a mid-way town, which unfortunately I couldn’t eat the food. So, they escorted me to outside and went with me to find a place to eat. Has anyone ever been in Pu Er?

Yesterday was one of the few warm sunny days we've had here in Kunming for sometime, so I thought I'd follow up on a tip Southgate gave me and managed to locate a 1/2 dozen or so "massage shops" clustered together. The particular establishment I tried had 7 girls available,so I carefully picked out the girl I considered the most attractive, I'd give her an 8 rating. I was surprised to find her fully shaven, not something I'd expected to see in China, particularly in Kunming. I'd rate the service which followed (CBJ & FS) a 7. I stayed at Mo Hon Hotel in Mo Hon. A nice sunny clean room, good service, friendly staff, 60 Yuan per night and there was hot water all day long. The loud music from the next-door Karoake place could be annoying at night and it could last until one a.m. The hotel is about half km from the border crossing on your left. There were plenty of good cheap food in town and people were friendly.

There was only a small scene in town and I think I found it all. There were three or four shops on the alley behind the main road and then there were two or three shops on the extension of the same alley. The selection was not that good, the price would start at 150 at your hotel room, and the girls were all Chinese. The problem was that as soon as you stepped into a shop, the whole crowd outside would look over to watch you. Too loud, too much crowd, little selection, and to add to that the hesitation from the girls to go with a foreigner. I saw one very pretty, all dressed up in a miniskirt, and all dolled up. I made a mistake and didn’t pursue the laoban’s offer to take her. I kept looking and by then I didn’t feel like going back to find the pretty girl because not sure she would still be there, the laoban, the crowd, and etc.. I am sure the right price for ‘that’ one would be 100 for one pop at the hotel. I am very sure I saw all what was in town because the town was just too small to miss it. Mo Hon Hotel also had an in-house shop but the selection was only one!

The town itself is been rebuilt with all new buildings for shopping and housing. I wished I would stay in Mo Hon longer. I could see myself recouping for a few days but couldn’t dig with that small selection.

The minivan service from Mo Hon to Mengla is 17 Yuan, you could flag one as the driver is going slowly to catch passengers, and it takes about an hour. There are two bus stations in Mengla so be prepared to hop on a taxi ride (wu kuai) to reach the next bus station a few km into the city. I had a waiting time at the Mengla bus station and hung around outside the bus station a little. It must have been very early afternoon hours but still a couple of women laoban approached me to see if I wanted a meimei. It seemed like they would call the girls to come. One laobon was an early middle-age woman, had a good body, good skin, and nice rack and I am sure I would have thought of seducing her if I had any more time. I didn’t stay in Mengla because by then I had already exhausted myself with short staying at too many cities so I just wanted to get myself to Si Mao.

I also had a run in with these sex police about a month back that necessitated my hiding in a concealed BBS room, with the girl I had chosen, for a 1/2 hour. There are several reasons for the lack of information on this board, the main reasons being that the low cost of living, mild weather and relatively pollution free environment in Kunming tends to attract two types of foreign guys, young single chinese language students and married guys who have come over with the wife and kids. The single guys look to pick up freebies at the bars and english corners, whilst the married guys are often only here for a year or so, teaching english while their children attend local schools in order to pick up mandarin. Neither group has much money to splash around even if they are so inclined.

I expect this situation to change over the long term if the Chinese governments plans to make Kunming the hub for S.E. Asia come to fruition. Perhaps the local government here is also aware of this and is putting in place the sex police infrastructure now in order to head of Kunming becoming the next Bangkok?

It also appears (and I have yet to verify this) that if you go about 6 miles from the city center (10km), there are streetwalking hookers. I have yet to work out the logistics of this (and may not have to, since I am cultivativing some freebies), but will be sure to post if I do have anything to liven up this not-so-active board.

One of the BBS on Xi Yuan Lu near Dan Xia Lu in the Xi Shan district has reopened. This is on the south side of the street and in a row of shops including sex shops, massage places ,etc. The writing outside is all in CHinese and there are a few cute ladies inside who will signal with their eyes if you stare at them. When you go inside, you have to tell them exactly what you are looking for. Full service is 150 yuan (without bargaining) and is provided in a secret room behind a bookshelf door. The lady asks that you perform quickly which is a total turnoff and makes even the low price not worth it. Perhaps you can take out to a safer location. Based on my experience there, I think BBS are risky and not worth the bother and search. Any other input would be appreciated.
Saunas on the other hand are going full blast. I have visited five.

1. Nan Jiang Hotel off Dong Feng Xi Lu has moved across the square from its old location. Price is 500 yuan for full service. This includes the cost of the sauna services (shower, soak in hot water, etc). I did not bargain and I think you can get this service for 400 yuan. Lady was too young for me and quite mechanical.
2. Jin Long Hotel on Beijing Lu as per prior posts. Better experience than the new Nan Jiang but not great.
3. South side of town in Guan Shang district near highway that goes to the airport. Dont remember the name or exact address. If you want, I can help you find it. Just PM me. Price 400 yuan for FS. Better experience than 1 or 2 above.
4. Also soutH side of town, near third ring road (which is also called Shil Li Chang Jie). 600 Yuan FS including shower and soak. Girl provides bbbj, rimming, red rope, etc but too young and cold and mechanical. If you like, I can help you find this place.
5. Dianchi Lu on the way to Minority Village and the Xi Shan cable car. East side of street. I will also have to help you find this if you wish. PM me. Whilst in Dali over the October week holiday a Chinese friend took me to a massage place on Kaifaqi Lu (not sure of the spelling), large glass frontage with a picture of a big foot sole. The place was strictly legit, (nothing more on offer), but there where several SW outside trying to entice us and presumably anyone else away, in mandarin. They seemed quite young and attractive, though I wasn't able to get up real close. Unfortunately I was not in a position to take them up on their offers as I was sharing my hotel room with someone who wouldn't have been pleased if I brought back company. I should have got the business card of the massage place, but didn't think to ask. Hope this is of some use to those visiting Dali.

I went to the train station the other day to pick someone up. I arrived about 30 mins. early, so instead of waiting around I went for a walk and came across 1/2 a dozen or so BBS quite close to the Kunming station, 1st right, then 1st left as you walk away from the passenger exit and across the road from a large bus depot. Is anyone familiar with these BBS? One of the women tried to drag me inside as I walked past, but I pulled away saying that my hair was fine. It was about 10am so I wasn't sure if these were legit BBS or more was available. Are these the BBS Harold Bell mentioned having being closed down during the olympics? I am living here in Kunming and would like to find someplace regular that's not too expensive. The Sunshine sauna for example is something I couldn't afford too often. There are some BBS mentioned in other posts, but these are quite old and I'm not sure if they are still operating. Is there anyone out there with some more up to date information?
