I confirm, the area called Xinying Xiaobeiqu, along Bailong road, is definitely great. Fairly good selection. On the down side, prices are maybe a little bit more expansive in the other BBS of Kunming, also they all insist on being paid upfront, even if you take the girl out, which is absolutely against my religion. Kunming is indeed the most sexiest of all Chinese big cities. Most veterans, however, only mentioned the area of Kunming, that is the part near the South Railway Station. There are a bunch of other places far much better than the South Railway Station either in the quality of girls or the environment for mongering. One place I know quite well is North Xinying Residential Area, for the entire block is full of BBS. Most girls in these nice decorated BBS are said to have come from Sichuan Province and the Northeastern Provinces. Services are extremely good indeed. The current rate is 100 yuan per shot or 200 yuan per night and there is some space for bargaining indeed. Basically, such a price does not include oral, which some girls will ask for an extra 30-50 yuan. Language would be a challenge for those of you who can't speak Chinese. There are some opportunities for hobbying in Kunming but you have to put some effort behind it. When you find it, it should be priced reasonably. All prices are in Chinese Yuan and keep in mind that I cannot communicate one word of Chinese language (except at the very end of my trip).

The city is nice and clean and everything is reasonable in price. If you pay 170 for a single room in a nice hotel, you are paying too much. If you try to eat western foods, you will pay three, four times more than local foods. Bus rides are .... one Yuan per trip and they go everywhere.

Kunming is not for newbies. My thinking is that even if you are used to Thailand and the Philippines and similar; please do not try what you learned there to China. As you may know, there is no mamasan and papasan system in China, it is pimping. I am not going to go into that topic in details here because individuals should cover it separately before they reach this post. It is a whole different approach and ball game here, don¡¯t spoil it please. I have to admit, I found it very satisfying by the time I learned how to enjoy it. In one of the earlier posts under this section, a punter started writing about ¡®his¡¯ girl and how ¡®he¡¯ wanted her like this and that, .... this is not Pattaya. Paying outrages prices .... because he could.

Why are you surprised, since you rekon Ruili is a waste of time ? You have answered your own question. However, if you go to the border crossing, in the part called Jiegao, a few kilometres from town centre, you may find a few Burmese places, if you look carefully. 50 Y for ST with young Burmese girls, nearly as good as Viet. There are actually some in Ruili itself, but not easy to find. They are very descreet.

I haven't seen anything posted on Ruili, which suprises me, since the town has such a reputation for prostitution. Well, I was there recently and I can tell you that it's a waste of time. Being a border town, I was expecting something similar to what I'd heard about Hekou. Unlike Hekou, there aren't any Burmese (in this case) or other minority groups working the knockshops. This is a very cool place. Every, and I mean every hotel, big or small, have its own massage parlor, usually on the upper floor. They don't advertise it outside, but if you ask reception or look at the discreet sigh in the staircase, you find it. Average 150 Y to 200 for Chinese girls, 100 for Viets. Besides, hotel are all very cheap. From 50 Y to 200 Y. I had a nice and clean room at Lanhua hotel for 80 Y. 2 cool Sichuan cuties on the top floor.
Also a few SW in a small park in the center, but no good choice.

The only thing is I believe you were over charged, as half of what you say should be the maximum to pay in all south China, especially in little towns. I agree that the area behind the south station seems to be the only wild area of certain scale in Kunming, however I would not recommend it. It is good for Chinese peasants coming to town. Not for us. The girls in the red lit barbershops are not beautuful and good only for the quick (I mean 5 minutes) fuck of their usual customers. As for the girls you are offered in the little hotels, they are shy and ashame new country girls, never heard of a BJ, without any experience at all. I stayed in Kunming for 8 days. August 23 to September 1st, 2003.

A couple observations:

1) Kunming doesn¡¯t have very many extremely beautiful chicks.

2) Within the city, (the large area between the North Station and Kunming station (AKA south station)), doesn¡¯t have a very developed sex industry.

I only know one location where you can find reasonably priced paid sex (100 to 150Y). After 11pm, go to the intersection of Beijing Road and the road coming out of Kunming Station. It¡¯s in a bad area! I was warned not to go out at night here. I went there 3 nights on my way to the cheap 20Y hotel I stayed at. Every night, I had people practically pulling me out of my taxi trying to convince me to try out their girls. I¡¯d step out of my taxi and literally had representatives from 4 or 5 different hotels following me down the road asking me to come over and try. And prices of 100 to 150 for sex. Not bad, so I checked out the girls at one of the places. Average. But the price is good, so if you¡¯re bored and know some kind of self-defense, try it out.
